I recommend watching the making of because it really shows how incredible this song is and especially the background vocals jimmy did for this are some of the coolest vocal lines I’ve ever heard which is part of the reason why I love this one…
And this entire song is basically just an experiment on how to translate the weirdest storyline into music and originally it was just meant to be a Halloween special but it became a fan favourite and is actually one of their most streamed tracks :)
As someone who was always into creepy or weird things I found it fantastic watching it from an artistic side. I love songs that tell a story it just make me think about musicals and the whole aesthetic is just on point for halloween or if they just wanted it to be creepy, a masterpiece indeed
I love this song because once you don’t take it too seriously and realize it’s just meant to be a dark twisted love story that’s kind of a joke, then you can appreciate the musical arrangements, instrumentation, vocal melodies, and vocal performances because they’re actually really well done. Such a fun song that I can’t help sing to when I hear it 🤷🏻♂️ but everyone has their own tastes! I believe A7X is one of those bands that likes to push the bounds of creativity in the genre cause they are too talented not to! Appreciate the reaction 👏🏽

From what I heard, they made this song as a Halloween shock value track for fun. When they played it for the label they said it was so good that it had to be put on the album. I think I watched an interview where M Shadows said this. Not entirely sure.

“It was a conjuring of Jimmy’s genius,” confirms guitarist Synyster Gates. “He had these parts in his mind and he was always playing piano. Whenever there was a fucking piano, he’d always be playing it and it would always be original stuff. He’d draw a fucking crowd of all of our friends and we couldn’t wait to hear it, the new shit. Then he wanted to finish it because it started picking up momentum and he really got a kick out of the chorus. Jimmy wasn’t the guy who needed a pat on the back, but he was really proud of that chorus. It was a little bit of a joke, too; when he’d sing it, kind of like Scooby-Doo. He thought it was such a cheesy kind of jingle, so catchy and so syrupy. He just thought it was so funny to juxtapose that with the lyrics.

"she was not this good in bed even when she was sleeping" is said at just the right volume for you to hear it but not truly hear it. you know something fucked up is there but you don't know quite what was said. even when skimming the lyrics that line just swoops under the radar.

THE REV (aka the drummer that passed away) definitly killed it with this one!!! His vocals added so much to the songs and were so good!! And if you didnt know, he was the one that actually wrote the piece, he's the one that brought it up to the band for a kinda halloween ep!

I think you missed part of the story where the dead girl comes back from the dead and gets revenge.... the song was written by the rev whom is the drummer that passed away and the inspiration for the song so far away. At the end of the day it was just for shock value
This is a metaphor. It's about the fear of being rejected, and how it feels to be rejected. Like someone ripped your heart out. So he took that possibility of being rejected from her. The Rev composed this while he locked himself in a cabin for several months. Just him and his instruments. He recorded the piano and the drum in one recording.
Whatever you think this song is, the answer is "YES!" xD
This was supposed to be a joke they made for halloween and not to be taken seriously, but it turns out the fans love it and it became one of their masterpiece, also RIP the REV :(

The first time i watched i was completely repulsed. But the music was so great i went back and watched it again (the official video). It's now one of my favorites. I'm a grandma, not unhinged or a real AX7 fan. But musically, i think this is a great song.

Life got put on pause when I saw this video on my suggested list. I freakin love this song! Lyrics aside, the music and harmonies are beautiful. This song has been on my playlist forever. My favourite thing about it is when it comes up say at a baseball tournament and my non metal friends start bouncing to it and getting into it, and then I start singing along and watch the faces change

To be clear, A7X is in my top 3 bands. That being said, I don’t hate this song and won’t skip it if it comes up, however I won’t actively look for it. That’s me, other fans it’s their #1. I actually seen a video of a couple performing a skit to ALPOH as their just married first dance at the wedding reception. 😂

This song is an absolute masterpiece. Took me a while to understand the dynamics, but I absolutely love the mix of the circus music and metal.

The Stage is another great listen.
The story behind this song is a little complicated. It was written by their drummer who died during the making of the album, but it was only partially complete. The band made a decision that they were going to try and finish the songs The Rev had started writing. The Rev liked writing really creative but "out there" stuff, in fact if the Rev hadn't died then this song might not have ended up on the album. But its a part of his legacy now, and the band honors that by also including this in most of their set lists. As crazy as it sounds considering the lyrical content of the song, the band completed this out of love for their fallen friend.
I was so pumped when they started playing this at the show I went to recently. Literally the ONLY thing that I needed them to play and it happened ❤️
I don't know if this is entirely true. I believe this came out in 2007 on the Avenged Sevenfold titled album. The rev died in 2009 I believe. There is an entire making of the song of the rev and m shadows really getting into it. It was meant for a Halloween track first but they ended up putting a lot of time and resources into it. It's amazing how much went into it. I think you may be thinking of Fiction on the Nightmare album. That was the last song he wrote and then died if I remember correctly and they added it to the album. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

The drummer of the band was a fan of Tim Burton & passed away so they wrote this song for him as a tribute to Tim Burton it’s not to be taken seriously it’s about a man who feared rejection so he killed his girlfriend & she came back to life then killed him & then they had a zombie wedding. Anthony Vincent’s version was my first time hearing the song ever so I got to experience the song in a different way than most before I heard the original. If you take it seriously you will not like the song but if you picture it as a Tim Burton movie it’s a masterpiece

The band went to a cabin in Big Bear Lake, California in a cabin and wrote this song. The genius behind almost the entirety of the songs lyrics and music was "The Rev." He's the one who passed away and he is the one who sings the section that says "....must have stabbed her 50 times..." You'll have to watch (on your own time) the Making of Avenged Sevenfold (the self titled album). Its witty and informative and will show you how the album was produced and put together.

for context this song was originally going to be a Halloween EP but when their publisher heard it they insisted it be part of a album. nothing about this song is meant to be taken seriously, its just a little Halloween special that made its way to a main line album by complete accident. the story makes more sense with the music video. you got the first part right about him killing her, necrophilia but in the video she comes back from the dead to kill him then they both live on as the undead, kill everyone in a church, then have a wedding in the church. it is funny having someone watch the lyric video and try to guess what its about though. its not that deep. its not a metaphor for anything. the lyrics are literal.

It's the story animated. as a synopsis, guy is nervous about asking girl to marry him, guy kills girl, guy does "stuff" to girl, girl comes back as a zombie, girl kills guy, guy goes to hell, guy comes back as zombie, guy and girl zombie make up, zombie wedding and eat the guests XD it's.. just a trippy circus performance and it's amazing. It might be worth another reaction honestly. It's... a trip.

This was entirely written by the drummer, Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan. He's also the one singing the "Must've stabbed her fifty fuckin' times" parts and does backups through the whole thing WHILE playing. He was an absolute legend and a jokester and this song portrays his personality so fucking well (the craziness of it, not the murdering-necrophiliac part).

For this song they basically locked themselves in a cabin in the mountains and just wanted to make something outrageous. There drummer the late great jimmy the rev Sullivan was the one who had the idea for this song but he was timid about sharing it but the whole band embraced the insanity and produced the most disturbing love story ever
