Their alien energy shield is down but they are some badass alien tripods attacking us...

I have always wondered how these tripods invade New York city in the 2005 War Of The Worlds movie. I mean the tripods are too small for those large skyscrappers buildings in a high density city. New York city might the place to be during these events, because New York is an easy location to hide. You can hide everywhere.
