Congratulations on your big 200 milestone Chris. You really do deserve it. I grew up on the Unicron Trilogy and would later expand to the other series in this great franchise. This franchise along with another called Zoids were the 2 biggest shows that I mostly watched for the majority of my early kid years.
Congratulations on 200 episodes of THE BASICS 🎊 I really can't understate how much this series reignited my love of Transformers. The episodes are so well researched and crafted that I've sent them to friends, grown adults, who know nothing or could care less about Transformers and they always come back with "Wow, that was actually really fascinating!". Looking forward to 200 more episodes, Chris! Cheers!!!🥂
Just wanted to say congrats on reaching 200 basics episodes. I have learned about many different characters and personalities from different continuities thanks to your work. Here's to another two hundred and more after that!!
Transformers fans in the 80s, 90s and early early 2000s all had the yellow kid appeal character. 80s kids had Bumblebee 90s kids had Cheetor And early 2000s kids had Hot Shot
In hindsight, what I really like about Hot Shot was that he wasn't made an overly cute mascot-ish character like Bumblebee often comes close to being, but he also wasn't pushed hard as "the next Optimus Prime" like Hot Rod was. Armada played with the idea as part of his development, but the writers had clearly learned from Hot Rod and knew not to go too far with it. Hot Shot was just a young rookie trying to figure out how to be the best version of himself he could be, and that was all his arc needed to be to work well. Great choice for a 200th episode!
So in the last four videos counting this one. We got a Gobot a G1 team an Mavel UK badass and now Hot Shot. It's crazy how in the last 39 year this brand has touched so many people. I like to think everyone of us may not agree on everything but we all can agree whatever alt mode the show takes we are Transformers fans. I for one would have a cup of coffee with any of you any day of the week. Thank you Chris and I'm looking forward to 300,400&1000
I always liked his energon bazooka, and I hope we see him come back again. It'd be nice to see Hot Shot and Bumblebee share the screen at some time, either as friendly rivals or Bumblebee as Hot Shot's mentor. Congrats on 200 episodes, Chris! Every one of them's a winner and I can't wait to see what's coming next!
There at the end of Armada, Hot Shot was chosen by both Optimus & Galvatron as interim leader for the autobots & decepticons; while Optimus & Galvatron took on Unicron. Loved it as a kid, rewatched it as an adult and I found myself bein’ proud for a transformer’s journey of maturation, who also understood the gravitas of his situation. 😅
Thank you so much for making The Basics. These bring back so much nostalgia, I was born in the early 2000s, grew up on 80s anime and cartoons. I gained a love drawing because G1 Transformers, and paired with a photographic memory. I noticed all the references and design choices that went into the early 2000s shows.
Man, you can really tell this is the 200th episode- the writing and editing in this is razor sharp. There’s nowhere to go but up for the Basics. Congratulations and, yet again, thanks.
Anytime I see a robot use a massive amount of missiles, I think of Gundam Heavyarms. The fact that Hot Shot is voiced by Kirby Morrow, the same VA as Heavyarms pilot Trowa Barton, makes the comparison even funnier to me.
I wonder if there'd ever be a show where Hot Rod, Hot Shot and Bumblebee would ever show up as brothers, and how the dynamic between them would play out if they did. My first idea is that Hot Rod and Hot Shot would be twins of sorts (with Shot being the slightly younger), with Bumblebee as their younger sibling. All of them would be itching to prove themselves, with Rod being the most ambitious and "responsible", Bee being the friendliest, and Shot the most hotheaded. Then again, three very similar impetuous kid-appeal characters would probably be too much for any one show, and they'd probably end up as comic relief (less Huey/Dewey/Louie, more triplets from Brave).
Honestly I didn't even know WHO Hot Shot was due to my first exposure to Transformers being "2007, G1, and ROTF" and having an attachment to Bumblebee. Cool that in the Unicron Trilogy, which I've never heard of nor seen when I was a kid; there was a character who was a replacement for Bee, yet developed into his own. Quite fascinating.
My son fell for this character immediately upon it's release. That toy was played with all day everyday and really opened the Transformer universe for him. Great video as always bro can't wait for the next one.
Hot Shot was so good! When he took up the Star Saber and challenged Megatron was one of my personal favorite moments. Also congrats on 200, Chris! Here’s to many more!
@@dodge1515 Well, keep in mind that Sideways was an agent of Unicron. So he was going to betray either faction regardless of the outcome with Hot Shot and the Star Saber.
I remember seeing the characters in the live action movies as little kid and being like "Why are they calling Hot Shot 'Bumblebee'?" Also congrats on 200 episodes!
Hot Shot is truly an underrated character! While I don’t dislike Bumblebee, the public needs to hear the name Hot Shot!! Bumblebee shouldn’t keep losing his voice, he should be more something akin to Hot Shot instead!
Fun Fact: When the first live-action Transformers movie was released in theatres, I initially thought the yellow Autobot was going to be named Hot Shot. Only to find out it was actually Bumblebee. Telling me the creators were adapting the original G1 cast, rather than the Unicron trilogy cast. As for my favorite Hot Shot incarnation, that would be Armada. Cybertron 2nd, and Energon 3rd.
Worth a mention that Hot Shot was one of the three playable autobots in the PS2 transformers game, at a time when transformers video game adaptations were a rarity.
Congrats on making 200 videos of The Basics, Chris! :D Here's to another 200! What better way to celebrate than a long, (mostly) forgotten Transformers character from the early 2000's! Also congratulations on almost reaching 200,000 Subscribers! I look forward to seeing what you might do for a 200,000 Subscriber celebration video (though I'm sure this video will probably suffice for that already)! Keep up the good work!
Hot Shot is one of the first mainstream Transformers that caught my eye, thanks to his bright yellow paint job and catchy name. As such, I get excited when he gets attention nowadays; considering that Bumblebee has more than reclaimed his role as the primary kid-appeal character.
Congrats on 200 episodes, dood!! The Siege Cybertron Defense Hotshot and Legacy Armada Hotshot were okay, but if it's real recognition they want for him, Takara knows what they must do: introduce Micron Legend/Armada into the Masterpiece line, starting with Hotshot...yesss!!
I think it's fair to say Bumblebee started as the original kid-appeal character in g1. Then for the Unicron Trilogy we had Hot Shot then back to Bumblebee for movies/tfa/tfp/etc. Now Hasbro setting it up to be Mirage, we'll see how it goes but guarantee within about 2 years we'll be back to Bumblebee.
I'd like a series where Hot Shot and Hot Rod are brothers, possibly as twins in a similar vein to Animated's Jetfire and Jetstorm; either way, I'd envision Hot Rod as the older/slightly more mature one.
Congratulations on 200 episodes! That's amazing! I have a cousin who is about 15 years younger than me. I grew up with G1 and he first saw Armada. He always loved Hot Shot, so because of him, I became more interested in the character. While I wouldn't call him my favorite, I do think he's neat and had a pretty interesting story in the Unicron trilogy.
Another great episode, I was one of those who grew up with Hot Shot instead of Bumblebee, so hoping he'll have a major role in the franchise again some day. Now looking forward to #250; my guess is that it'll feature Orion Pax, Kup, Tarantulas or Fortress Maximus.
Hot Shot was actually my first Transformer. I first got into the series with Energon and that car mode he had in it was gorgeous. I also rather enjoyed the comic that came with him, watching him and Strongarm fight off Scorponok and his Terrorcons
When the transformers movie came out, teenage me was really confused that they didn’t include Hot Shot. I grew up with Armada and didn’t even know Bumble Bee was a thing. I thought Bumble was the replacement of Hot Shot.
Hotshot and Demolisher were my very first Transformers ever back when I was young so seeing him as a main character again 20 years later for the new Generation of Transformers fans to enjoy makes me happy, He may not be as Popular as bumblebee but he will always be our Hotshot
I saw Hotshot for the first time in Transformers Rescue Bots Academy, cause I became a Fan of TF recently on October of the last year and I started watching Rescue bots and then Rescue bots academy, but I'm watching also the other tv shows (I already Watched all the Movies tho) Ok too much text Good video!!! I learnt a lot about Hotshot :D
I remember loving Hot Shot as a kid (though only ever having his Armada Toy.) I'm glad you brought up Hot Rod, as I've ended up imagining Hot Shot as a fusion of him and Bumblebee: The kid friendly demeanour, _and_ the rebellious one with a need for speed. If anything, I feel like Modern Bumblebee is more based on Hot Shot than the latter was by classic depictions of the former (aside from a desire to prove himself worthy of respect)
Big Grats on that 200!!!! Transformers Animated had the character Rodimus Minor in a scene where Oil Slick hit him with some kind of rust bomb. The Hot Shot scene was kind of since those characters parallel each other.
As I know this character from Armada, I always thought hot shot is another version of hot rod until Transformers Animated proved they are two individual characters
Just leave it to a fandom like Transformers to find a way to flesh out even the most obscure character or ones that were meant to be a stand-in for another established character. :D
Thanks Chris! As a 90s/2000s kid, Armada was my introduction to the transformers franchise as a whole and so I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Hotshot.
I loved armada hotshot and preferred his original yellow variant. The bulky and mostly box-like appearance felt like a fun contrast to the fact he had a car alt form and (in my kid brain) made him look stronger. Before armada came out I was a hot rod fan as before I saw the show series he was in on reruns I was allowed to rent the movie on VHS, let me tell you, that movie was replayed every other day before we had to return it. Hot shot would then carry the metaphorical torch as I remembered being forced to wake up super early before going to school (45 min drive on average) and my mother insisting I wake up a whole hour early left me in the time slot for armada on our little kitchen tv (litterally around 1ft size) having a bowl of cereal or chocolate chip pancakes. Heck I even remember the exact way the lighting in the kitchen was even though it’s been over 9 years since I last set foot in that house. Oh- and for the longest time my hotshot toy was pretty much my lucky charm. So yeah, massive love for hotshot, totally devastated he wasn’t in the films but I’m glad he’s getting love.
Armada was my first exposure to Transformers, and I knew who Hot Shot was before Bumblebee. Only until the Bayverse I learned how massively popular Bumblebee was and would become in the franchise. Which is a shame because Hot Shot is one of the most underrated "young" Autobots in the mythos, along with Rodimus, Powerglide, Springer, & Sunstreaker.
Ironically, modern Bumblebee is closer to Hot Shot than his namesake. Heck, he’s stolen so much of Hot Rod and Hot Shot’s whole “rash teenager in need of humility and maturity” schtick that it’s been difficult for Hasbro to reestablish either of them. G1 Bumblebee is not “cool” like Hot Rod or Hot Shot. He is so uncool that he becomes cool.
I grew up on Hot Rod and it sucks to see that character never revived in name sake but his personality given to other bots like Hot Rod and Bumblebee. :(
It's kinda funny how Hotshot started out as Bumblebee, but couldn't use the name because of lapsed trademark, ended up being more like Hotrod, but couldn't use that name either for the same reason, before eventually being supplanted and replaced by Bumblebee when Hasbro finally got the trademark back. I mean, seriously, not only does animated Bumblebee still have his personality, but live action Bumblebee clearly shares more visual cues with Hotshot as well. It's obvious both were late changes, and it would be kinda surprising new incarnations of characters still names "Hotshot" would ever show up again, if not for the fact Hasbro was probably just trying to hold onto the trademark.
I had no idea that he had such a deep history. I'm more familiar with the G1 cartoon cause that's what I had as a kid. I'm glad he's getting a Legacy toy. Hopefully he'll get some more love in the future to make his fans happy and maybe make some new Hot Shot fans.
Transformers armada was what got me into the brand. I remember receiving this guy and a ton of the other toys one Christmas morning and 2002. Despite his flaws. he was one of my favorites as a kid. Also rest in peace to the legendary Kirby Morrow, who voiced my favorite version of the character in Transformers: Cybertron. (among all of the other characters that he had voiced throughout his career.)
At the beginning of Armada, Hot Shot is depicted as a rookie, inexperienced. Yet in the Wheeljack flashbacks, long before, he is seen as a veteran, to wheeljack's rookie status. This was a big continuity issue for me.
Armada was what got me into the franchise in the first place, I even confused live action Bumblebee for Hotshot as i never really knew Bee and knowing Hotshot had a sports car design in the cartoons
IDW Hot Shot was a City Speaker? Cool!! I had Optimus Prime as MY Favorite when I was a kid. I love how you tie characters with the same names into a single profile episode, instead of bouncing around many universes. Saves time that way.
I actually wish that Hot Shot in Rescue Bot Academy have a City Speaker ability went all the kids visit that empty city that turn out it was a Titan Transformers....it would make the Academy version so close with the Prime/RiD2015 series
In my fanfict Hot Shot serwed in an Autobot unit under Ricochet's command. At this point he was still yellow, but after Ricochet's death he repainted himself to his Car robots's color to honor for his former mentor.
While I did grow up with the g1 pilot miniseries first, i do remember that Transformers Cybtron is the first transformers cartoon I watched fully and Hot shot was one of my favourites. As for my favourite version of the character I would say Armada, Rescue bots Academy and 2019 Idw.
Congratulations on 200 episodes, Chris. I'm looking forward to see what you have planned for in the future. As for Hot Shot, while I respect Bumblebee (having grown up in the 80s myself) I like Hot Shot's character arc. A prime (no pun intended) example of true character growth.
There's so much potential to have bee and hotshot interact with each other like maybe the other one is jealous trying to be a great friend to Optimus or bitter brothers there's alot
rw:the funny thing is Chris,when the 2007 TRANSFORMERS movie 1st came out,i almost thought that bumblebee was hotshot and ratchet was red alert by mistake ^_^;
Hot Shot felt more like a kid a feel character than Bumblebee did in earlier days. He was great in Armada and was cool to get him again in Animated, finally cool to see Hasbro recognise his popularity and give us a new toy in the Legacy era. Just epic!
Although Bumblebee was the kid-appeal character that was introduced to me thanks to the live-action movies, Hot Shot was so much more interesting. I really did feel that he grew throughout the Unicron Trilogy. I didn't grew up with the Armada series but it has really found a place in my heart. And congratulations on your 200th video, Chris! It's not easy producing such high quality content on a daily basis, so it's an achievement to be exceptionally proud of❤️.
Cybertron Defense Hot Shot is easily one of my favorite figures ever, even if it doesn't suit his personality that well. In that regard, his Energon form is probably the most fitting body he's had.
Ironic that Hotshot was going to be called Bumblebee in Armada considering the fact they came out with a Bumblebee figure for Cybertron: Hall Of Legends line that is a yellow recolored version of that Cybertron Hot Shot.

Making Hot Shot, Hot Rod, and Bumblebee all unique characters was a good decision on Hasbro’s end. Imagine these three meeting each other.
Transformers fans in the 80s, 90s and early early 2000s all had the yellow kid appeal character.
80s kids had Bumblebee
90s kids had Cheetor
And early 2000s kids had Hot Shot
Then B reclaimed his throne, and hasn't given it up since.
It's crazy to think Hot Shot was our bumblebee 20 years ago! I was just 7 years old when I first saw him on television!
same age but i saw him on reruns in the mid 2000s!
Same here
I remembered that when I was a kid
I'm 20 yrs old and just surprised the hell out of my 28 year old team lead the other day for knowing who hot shot is 💀😭
In hindsight, what I really like about Hot Shot was that he wasn't made an overly cute mascot-ish character like Bumblebee often comes close to being, but he also wasn't pushed hard as "the next Optimus Prime" like Hot Rod was.
Thank you Chris and I'm looking forward to 300,400&1000
Don't forget deaths head, yes?
@@gabrielchee8470 damnit I did mean to say something about him thank you I'm going to fix it
I always liked his energon bazooka, and I hope we see him come back again. It'd be nice to see Hot Shot and Bumblebee share the screen at some time, either as friendly rivals or Bumblebee as Hot Shot's mentor.
Congrats on 200 episodes, Chris! Every one of them's a winner and I can't wait to see what's coming next!
Unlike Red Alert, who didn't appear in Energon, Hot Shot appeared in the entire Unicron Saga.
To be honest, this episode would've been the best basics episode if tjomegs was there, especially his relation to hot shot
Anytime I see a robot use a massive amount of missiles, I think of Gundam Heavyarms. The fact that Hot Shot is voiced by Kirby Morrow, the same VA as Heavyarms pilot Trowa Barton, makes the comparison even funnier to me.
🙏

As someone who grew up on the Unicron trilogy, it's great to see hotshot get some recognition through the legacy wave
For me, I would imagine Bee being the oldest (Because he IS the oldest of the characters), Hot Rod as the second, and Hot Shot as the youngest.
I could see them together in a show, but not as triplets. Maybe the Hot twins, though, always getting in trouble and Bee saving their axels...
No Cheetor as a 4th brother? I like his growth arc the best of all 4. (It showed him being affected by growing up a child soldier in a war)
Where's Cheetor? Lol.
I still remember when Megatron tried convincing Hot Shot to switch sides,
and Hot Shot's response was: "For the last time buddy Access Denied!"
@@nine_tails137 Could you imagine where the series could have gone if he did join the Dcons?!?! :O
@@dodge1515 Geez! That would make him a completely different character if he did.
@@nine_tails137 Well, I know this, the stunt with Sideways joining the Autobots first probably wouldn't have happened....
@@dodge1515 Well, keep in mind that Sideways was an agent of Unicron. So he was going to betray either faction regardless of the outcome with Hot Shot and the Star Saber.
I remember seeing the characters in the live action movies as little kid and being like "Why are they calling Hot Shot 'Bumblebee'?"
Also congrats on 200 episodes!
Congrats on 200 episodes! When I was getting back into Transformers as an adult, your channel was a huge part of that. Here's to 200 more!
My favorite moment starring Hot Shot was when he defeated Megatron with the star saber. A clip of the fight can be seen at 2:30.
Hot Shot was one of my favourite characters from the unicron trilogy. I wish he would appear in more Transformers stories.
When I saw the first Bay movie in 2007 a child a couple of rows in front shouted "Hot Shot" at Bumblebee's first transformation to robot mode.
Hot Shot is one of the first mainstream Transformers that caught my eye, thanks to his bright yellow paint job and catchy name. As such, I get excited when he gets attention nowadays; considering that Bumblebee has more than reclaimed his role as the primary kid-appeal character.
Hot Shot is one of my most nostalgic characters. I still remember the duel between him and Starscream with both their swords.
I thought his OG Cybertron Defense figure was doing just fine lol.
Nah I want to see Cybertron hotshot
Armada hotshot is just Rodimus Bee
When a spark is lit, there is great joy.
When one is extinguished, the universe weeps.
Rest in peace, voice of HotShot
I think it's fair to say Bumblebee started as the original kid-appeal character in g1. Then for the Unicron Trilogy we had Hot Shot then back to Bumblebee for movies/tfa/tfp/etc. Now Hasbro setting it up to be Mirage, we'll see how it goes but guarantee within about 2 years we'll be back to Bumblebee.
The Terrans appear to have succeeded Bee in ES.
Orion IS Optimus.
Hotshot with the Hotrod paintjob was my first transformers toy when I was a kid. He has a special place in my heart
Hot Shot was actually my first Transformer. I first got into the series with Energon and that car mode he had in it was gorgeous. I also rather enjoyed the comic that came with him, watching him and Strongarm fight off Scorponok and his Terrorcons
Congratulations on 200 episodes! Here’s to 200 plus more! Cheers!! ❤❤❤
Other than Optimus prime, Hot-shot is my favorite transformer. Hope to see him in live action someday 😃
You forgot to mention that in Transformers Cybertron, Hot Shot had a toy made of him in a red color scheme…again emulating Hit Rod.
I remember as a kid. My dad told me that there was a lot of transformers. More then what I can count. He's still right to this day. :'3
I saw Hotshot for the first time in Transformers Rescue Bots Academy, cause I became a Fan of TF recently on October of the last year and I started watching Rescue bots and then Rescue bots academy, but I'm watching also the other tv shows (I already Watched all the Movies tho)
Ok too much text
Good video!!! I learnt a lot about Hotshot :D
Congratulations on 200 episodes my man!
I kind of skipped over the Unicron Trilogy so it was great learning about one of its headlining characters!
As I know this character from Armada, I always thought hot shot is another version of hot rod
until Transformers Animated proved they are two individual characters
Kirby Morrow(The VA for Hot Shot from Cybertron) would be proud. RIP Kirby Morrow... 😔
We needed this. HotShot got replaced by Bumblebee, like, seven times? He isn’t going to appear in any transformers media soon..
Very funny to me how Hot Rod was replaced by Hot Shot, who was then replaced by Bumblebee
Kirby Morrow died a few years back, I knew him as my voice of hot shot from the cybertron series, may he rest in peace.
Congratulations on 200 episodes Chris!
The new deluxe legacy figure is great and perfectly nostalgic with the Armada look
OMG YES! Being born in 1999 I am one of those kids for who Hot Shot was their original Bumblebee 😂✨ We need more Hot Shot in modern media!
He was the first toy I got after G1 ended and got me back into Transformers collecting again. He will always hold a big part with me.
Hot shot has more character growth. Than a single character in the movies.
Having been introduced to Transformers through the Armada line, this is one I've been looking forward to for a good while.
There's so much potential to have bee and hotshot interact with each other like maybe the other one is jealous trying to be a great friend to Optimus or bitter brothers there's alot
rw:the funny thing is Chris,when the 2007 TRANSFORMERS movie 1st came out,i almost thought that bumblebee was hotshot and ratchet was red alert by mistake ^_^;
I can understand.
When I discovered rid 01, I was confused where bee was, until I learnt his name was missing
I hope he reappears on The Transformers Cartoon or the new movie in his Armada form💕💕💜💗💜💞🥰❤️🤎😍💛🤩💡😘
armada was the first serie I started watching, so for first 10 years I thougth Hotsot was a major character, and bumblebee was simply added in armada
I love how JaAm was referenced on the license plate of his 2009 Universe toy
I really want to see Hotshot and Bumblebee together in a series.
I could easily see the two being good friends and almost like brothers.
Ironic that Hotshot was going to be called Bumblebee in Armada considering the fact they came out with a Bumblebee figure for Cybertron: Hall Of Legends line that is a yellow recolored version of that Cybertron Hot Shot.
