A favorite of mine is "Killer Queen" but I would recommend going back and watching the FULL set at Live Aid 1985. Not just a song. The crowd control is out of this world.
I think you would enjoy the movie about Queen, I think it's on Netflix.
@@ryru2093 Yes. That performance may have been the greatest live performance ever captured. It is absolutely essential viewing.
Hot Topics as in what?
@@LuciferBalor considered by many as THE PERFORMANCE of the century.
An interviewer once asked Freddie what he played in the band.
His response?
"The audience, darling."
Legends have the balls to speak the truth. What a impactful soul.
He wasn't wrong.
And we were so grateful to be played.
His voive was his instrumentof choice, but he also played piano and guitar.
Every member of Queen wrote music. As has been stated, this song was written by Brian May, the guitarist.
Freddie sold it though cause he is a pro.
He wrote it with Freddy in mind as apparently at the time he like fat bottom women and men.
@@JLO72 dude understood 🙏🏽
In fact, Queen are the only group to have all the members write a number 1 song.
@@JLO72
Freddie had already wrote the line fat bottom girls in bicycle race
This is such a fun lyric and a solid musical composition. Written by Dr. Brian May, this remains one of my favorite Queen songs. Big fat Fanny (the Nanny's name was Fanny). Red Fire Light I am going to guess is a lantern with a red glass globe instead of clear. Back in the old days, prostitutes would have a red lantern on their brothels to signal clients that they were open for business. Even today, areas where there are lots of prostitutes are commonly referred to as "Red Light Districts." All four members of this band wrote number 1 songs for this band and all four are in the songwriter's hall of fame. The majority of Queen songs were written by Freddie and Brian but Roger and John also were outstanding songwriters and had songs on nearly every Queen album.
Brian May is one of the most brilliant people on the face of this planet.
@@firehawk2324 I absolutely agree.
Red light = whore houses is my only guess too.
Fanny is generally a shortening of Francis.
@@skeriicain Fanny is the butt, Franny is a nick for Francis.
The love of his life was Mary, although when he came out as bi, she ended their long relationship. Although she was his best friend and was with him at the moment he died. She is also the one Freddy’s ashes were gave to her and she placed them in a place and won’t tell anyone where there at to this day. Freddy’s real name is Farraq Bulsara, as well. Crazy huh? I was like what?!?
Hey there, This is only a minute detail, but just FYI... Mary wasn't actually with Freddie when he passed. (She had gone home for the evening; his common-law husband Jim Hutton was with him, as well as his personal assistant Peter Freestone and his long-time friend/employee Joe Fanelli.)
The story about Fred's ashes is totally right; Mary said that she kept the ashes in Freddie's old bedroom (I forget now if it was for a year or two years) before she finally got up the nerve/emotional fortitude to carry out his secret wishes.
@@marciebulsaraorcutt Thank You! I didn’t know it was only the last year or two, and I’m guessing I was thinking about his last song video where she was sitting on the bed. Thank you, for the info.!
What exactly do you find crazy? The fact that Freddie Mercury is his stage name, or that his real name is foreign sounding to you? He was born in Tanzania, to Parsi-Indian parents.
it was spelt Farrokh which is a persian name
their relationship ended because he was dating David who had told him if he didn't tell mary he would leave him
when he was trying to explain she said are you trying to tell me you are gay
@@marciebulsaraorcutt
joe was also his ex from 78/79
Besides Freddie being a phenomenal singer and showman, don't forget that that massive sound and vocal harmonies are just only the three guys alongside him, rocking their hearts out.
on stage John had his mic turned down
studio album it was Freddie,Brian and Roger doing the backing vocals, harmonies
The lyric is "Down beside your red fire light". The light from a fireplace. They're on the floor, presumably.
I believe its a woman's "red fire light." That's at least how I look at it ;)

Different prophets, same message.
Brian wrote this song for Freddie x all four band members wrote songs they are all four inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame & the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame all had number one hits one amazing band x
“Get on your bikes and ride!” A call out to the B side song “Ride my bicycle”
And that song was it call out to all women naked bicycle race in France
THEY MAKE THE ROCKING WORLD GO ROUND!
Freddie loved them all...his soul mate is.a woman named Mary who he left his home.
I have this album, JAZZ. The whole thing is amazing...I even have the original FBG/Bicycle Race poster that came with it !
I had Jazz on LP but we never had the poster (i think the record store claimed it back in the day) - but I got the CD years later on a release that had a miniature version of the poster. The bicycle company they hired the bikes from for the photo shoot complained they had to have all the seats cleaned :D :D
THANK YOU, SO MUCH FOR REACTING TO MY FAVORITE VERSION OF THIS SONG.... SO SO FUN!!!
Guitarist Brian May wrote this song for the fact that Freddie liked his romantic interests to, umm, have a little "padding"/be a little bit pleasingly plump.
ALL FOUR band members wrote songs and EACH band member is individually inducted into the Hall of Fame for having written a Number One song.
(Re the question of whether Freddie liked guys or gals....
There's a quote where he said "I've had more lovers - both men AND women - than Liz Taylor!"
.....I guess that answers THAT question?)
What's so SURPRISING when watching Freddie's outrageous free-spirited antics onstage, is the fact that - in his personal life - he was actually quite SHY... He HATED talking to people he didn't know, and he would be hard-pressed to even enter a room of strangers without a friend or two at his side.
I always assumed the red fire light was them just lying down in front of a warm fire and the red glow emanating from it
I used to think it was talking about the red light district but I guess we are wrong.....
@@TheRealSweetcherryo Could be both.
There is nothing in this song that discusses anyone laying around and just hanging out? I believe its the woman's "red fire light."
"Red fire light", imo, refers to the popular trope at the time of steamy things happening in front of a burning fireplace.
Every member of Queen wrote songs, this was wrote by Brian May, the guitarist
The astrophysicist Sir Mixalot.
I believe you meant to say, Dr Brian May THE GUITARIST.
I always took the lyrics to mean more along the lines of he is tired of the same scrawny blondes with blue eyes, and he finds greater comfort and fun with the thicc women
I always thought that the point of this song is after a while we get older and less interested in the effort it takes to pursue the flashy people (male or female) and we want the solid people who are not always ‘beautiful’ but good to be around.
@matt reeves pretty sure that’s exactly what he meant. A lot of people are overthinking the meaning of this song.
Freddie liked all bottoms and no pole is safe from him😉👑👑this was written by Dr. Brian May astrophysicist on guitar.
In the '70s, a bearskin rug by the fireplace was considered sexy. So if you lie someone down beside the red firelight, that is probably what the lyrics mean. (I have not heard the story behind this song so it could just be poetic license as well) by the way, waterbeds were also considered sexy in the 70s' as well.
Maybe something like a red light special? Prostitution and the busy light? Just guessing
This song is just a simple ode to the many big beautiful women of the world. Love them and him.
"Somebody to love," live in Montreal 1981." White queen", live at odeon hammersmith 1975,. "Save me" live in Montreal 1981.
"Another one bites the dust " "Under pressure " both live at Wembley 1986. Just a few.
I am sorry you missed the official video, his voice is soooo much cleaner there . Still a great reaction and song , love Queen alot :)
when im at work and this song comes on inevitably someone will yell "Preach Freddy"
I remember thinking how funny this song was a kid, it had "naughty " words 🤣🥰😎
Fanny, lol.
"Down beside that red firelight" - laying down on a rug in front of an open fire.
Dont think he was just hanging out with a women in front a fire when he specifically is admiring her "fat bottom." I believe it is the woman's "red fire light."
@@Yaki2022 Wait, is she setting fire to her farts?
@@Escapee5931 LOL. Funny.
The official video has great layered harmonies and a great sound. You can't really appreciate the song itself from this performance. This strikes me in my limited knowledge as unusually "wild" performance. BTW that second verse is about getting older - mortgages, stiff bones - and enjoying being with your greatest treasure who may not be a beauty queen but is apparently a fat bottom girl.
Freddie liked women too. Brian May, the lead guitarist, wrote this one. A red firelight is a fireplace and every member of the band wrote songs. For Queen, I also recommend listening to Hammer to Fall and The Princes of the Universe. Freddie wrote this one for the Highlander series theme. I don't know if you've seen the Barcelona video Freddie did with Montserrat Caballe, but it's fantastic. Freddie wrote that one and convinced Montsy to perform it with him live. She loved Freddie, and she rocked it.
Freddie was such a born performer, he always looked like he was enjoying himself too
Brian May, highly underappreciated guitarist. He is right up there with the best in rock
One of theirs that I highly recommend for Imagery and great sounds is "fairy feller's master stroke". There are sooo many amazing Queen songs - Black Queen, Tenament Funster, Flick of the Wrist, Year of '39, Great King Rat, Liar - but this one has such a fun background story and such an addicting sound that I cant help rejoicing whenever it comes up in my playlists
Somebody to Love 1981 Montreal Live. His best ever ever ever hands down performance ever.
Ever? 😁
@@brandoncrow3741 I don’t think any other lyrical performance can beat it on the sole singing aspect, and it was live. No. Although something might be called a tie, I suppose subjectively lol like my opinion. :-)
100% agree.
early 90s, sitting in Pizza Hut , this song on the jukebox, enjoying the buffet.. those were good times.. this song always takes me back to that place...
Freddie loved everyone. Rumors were his parties would've made Ceasars blush. All of the members wrote and cowrote the songs. Freddie of course played the audience and we love him to this day for it. Freddie sang "The Great Pretender", and a you would probably get a kick out of "Bicycle". They have several major hits and on this channel or personally you deserve to hear their Live Aid performance.
What I find absolutely fascinating about Freddie is that on the stage, he absolutely commanded tens of thousands of people at a time, but if you watch any interviews with him or just videos of him not performing, he seemed to have been very shy and introverted when he wasn't performing on a stage. He was such a unique - and uniquely talented - person, and he gave us so much in his music (which was written by all four band members, not just him), but he was so different off the stage from how he was on the stage. This song was written by Brian, who also has written extremely diverse songs over the course of his career. But the true magic was all when of their powers combined, like in Captain Planet, when they worked on the songs together - even if one person wrote the lyrics, they all worked out the arrangement together. Also, Freddie could probably have sung the phone book and made it sound amazing, so it's no wonder that his theatrics were absolutely on point for this song.
Oohh never doubt, Freddie Loved women ...and yes more.
His life long Love was Mary, and became Godfather to her children after they were separated. Freddie, his vocals “out of this world” and his love for all.... true and genuine!❤️ loved your reaction! Thanks!:)
Your my guy. I like the way you will listen to anything with an open mind.
Freddie always thought of himself as bisexual from what i know
The song was also written by Brian May.
Brian May wrote this...since he is an astrophysicist in addition to a rock star, many insist this song is proof fat bottom girls actually do literally make the world go round
All four members wrote hit songs for the band… Queen were the first complete group inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, in 2003.
“Another One Bites the Dust” written by John Deacon. “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” written by Freddie Mercury, Fat Bottomed Girls” written by Brian May “Radio Ga Ga” written by Roger Taylor.
Freddie was bi, not gay, tho he came to prefer men as he got older. Brian wrote this song to tease him about his love of bigger women and men. "Fanny" in this case is the nanny's NAME. It's "Left along with big fat Fanny, she was such a naughty nanny." Yes, in the UK "Fanny" means... something else, but in British sex comedies it's also a common name for a naughty servant.
I got Mortgages and homes
I have stiffness in the bones
Ain't no beauty queens in this locality.
I think this is referring to becoming 'domesticated', and that there are no ladies of particular renown in whichever neighborhood this man has retired to...
But he still remembers those 'Fat-Bottomed Girls'.
In 1978, Dr. Brian May, Astrophysicist and Guitarist for Queen, assisted by Freddie Mercury, postulated that the Earth's rotation was due to "Fat Bottomed Girls". After 40 years, without being disproven, refuted, or even questioned, this now must be considered scientific fact.
Greatest front man ever.
Showmanship and a tremendous voice.
All four members of the band were songwriters and each has been inducted into the songwriters Hall of Fame, this particular one was written by Brian May.
You have such a nice, calm voice. Great reaction!! Would love to see your reaction to White Queen at Odeon Hammersmith. Absolutely astonishing performance!!
This was written by Brian May, but Freddie Mercury never came out as anything but bisexual. His two known long term relationships were Mary Austin and Jim Hutton, and he left the bulk of his estate to the former.
In France "Fanny" is a given name. It's origins include diminutives of the French name Frances meaning "free one" and of the Spanish name "Estefany", an uncommon version of Stephanie", meaning crown. It's used in English for Frances too.
"red fire light". They are laying down by the fireplace. It's romantic.
Not every song was about Freddie Mercury. There are three other members. Brian May. Roger Taylor. John Deacon they all have life experience and they also write songs. Very disappointing when people do not recognize the other band members. The group is called “ Queen“ not Freddie Mercury.
He's an entertainer. Performing a song and his sexual preferences don't have to correspond.
I would assume that the red fire light meant the red light district but don't quote me.
I have always taken it to mean she was a prostitute in the red-light district.
I thought that too but urban dictionary says otherwise....
Flash , Bicycle Race and The show Must Go On are all solid gold
When I seen you reacting to this song I knew this was going to be good ... '' fat bottom girls '' . .😂
Fanny is an old contraction of the name Francesca.
Red fire light: What it says, basically. When this was released it wasn't uncommon for people to still heat their rooms using fire.
Red Jacket Freddie … I’ll follow those arrows anywhere including the
poles & scaffolding!! 😜😜 This Milton Keynes concert is fire! 🔥🔥
Please do SOMEBODY TO LOVE from this same concert! ❤️❤️❤️
All members of the band wrote songs. This one Brian Mays wrote. That’s why their albums were great. So many different kinds of songs on each album. My favorite band ever!!!
Getting it on. Presumably. In front of a fireplace / cozy fire. Never let it be said. That a hookup. Leaves you no room to be smooth. LOL It was still the 70s. When Brian wrote this. A guitarist with a gentle soul. Even when referencing the rock n roll / 70s lifestyle. He does so with cheek. ( ha ha ) & a bit of classic romance thrown in. Depending on the wine. Not a bad way to spend the night. Back then. That is.
Simply put, regardless of your preferred genre in music; it's a really catchy song that you just want to rock out to!
Freddie was known to play both sides of the aisle, but with a decided preference.
Red Fire Light refers to lady parts. It resembles a flame, it is warm, and gives life. Also a circulating red light as on 911 vehicle.
I’m just here to show appreciation for the Reptar shirt.
"red fire-light" may be a reference to 'red light districts' where prostitution is common. Not sure, might be reading too far into it tbh lol
I'd always assumed this also.
Freddie loved everybody. Just a beautiful soul.
1:50 I loved the "I'm here for this" face
I could be wrong as this was my interpretation but here it goes. Red fire light, the red light they have on brothels in say Amsterdam
Obviously in my opinion that’s rock ‘n’ roll singer ever the range he can go so high and bring it down and just dance all around it he has so much control I know he worked hard at it but he’s a natural I sure miss him Freddie Mercury are you ready Freddy
If you want to see the best live performance from queen, maybe best live performance ever. Of any song, maybe? Try 1981 live from Montreal. "Somebody to love". I don't think there was a better version ever , anywhere, recorded in any studio that was as good as that performance .
1982 Milton Keynes is arguably a better performance - but there isn't a recording with as clear a sound as 81 in Montreal (I prefer the Milton Keynes recording)
Here in West Virginia when you're furnace goes out we build a 🔥. Hence the light produced.
🤯💯 QUEEN ALWAYS ROCKED IT HARD‼🔥
I've love them! RIP Freddie darling. ❤ 🕊🙏
'Red fire light' the light from her fire, you know doing it on a rug in front of the fire.
This is one giant stadium singalong when you see them live.
The Rainmakers had a similar song called 'Bug Fat Blonde.' They were a Kansas City band in the 80s who were very popular locally. They were just starting to get national attention on MTV when they abruptly broke up. Check them out, sometime.
Freddie swung both ways…I saw you noddin’ that head!
Queen ➡️ “Oh, down beside your red firelight” 🚨
Prince ➡️ “And honey I say, Little Red Corvette” 🚗
Weird statement alert. This was my Mom's Favorite Song. She was a bigger younger lady, and LOVED singing and dancing to this track, then she was killed when I was 15. This track makes me both insanely happy and incredibly depressed at once.
My wife HATES this song, I love it. It’s just one of those songs that is FUN…nothing more, nothing less. Just let it be that…fun! 🤷🏻♂️
Does this song make my...???
@@leicaman LMAO
All 4 of the members of queen wrote their songs
The red fire light.
The color of the fire light is red.
They hitting skins next to a fire place bro. Bearskin rug type shit.
Always check the Urban Dictionary for unusual phrases. Red fire light is an alternate name for a woman's VJay...it's shaped like a flame, is warm, and gives life. That's according to the U. Dict.
As many have said, this was written by the guitarist, Brian May.
Regardless, most gay, mainstream artists don’t tend to write about unambiguously gay relationships in their songs - it wasn’t/isn’t relatable to a straight audience and could even be commercially detrimental.
This is generally the case whether the artist is out or not.
i think that was part of Brians issue with Freddie DSMN off the same album he said he had a go at |Freddie for some of his songs having gay overtones he saw DSMN as separatism
but didn't seem to consider that 'straight' songs could be separatism to non straight people!
DSMN is now their most requested song and their second most downloaded
I don't think most people even hear the song that way it's just up beat and fun!
From what I recall Freddie was closeted and with the love of his life (until the very end) when he came out as bisexual; she left him but they still remained very close. As for a few of the things in this, yeah, the story is about the guy liking the ladies a little thick (thicc) because back then that was a good thing, even when he was getting a little older, a little less capable.
Freddie Mercury said he was bisexual.
“I’ve got mortgages and homes, I’ve got stiffness in my bones” = I’ve matured, have responsibilities, aches & pains
“Ain’t no beauty queens in this locality” = these aren’t the glamorous party girls on tour, just regular local chicks
“But I’ve still got my pleasure, still got my greatest treasure” = the local girls still have nice round booties
Or, a partner.
You should listen London Town Girl, from the german band Epitaph, made in 1971...and you will notice both songs are quite similar, I mean, a lot
I believe that the red fire light refers to the red light district which was streets of brothels and you knew which ones were on for business because they would have a red light shining in their window.
That little grin you had when you heard the words put a smile on my face. lol Brian May, the guitar player, wrote the song, but I think it was really fun for Freddie, a very gay man, to sing it. Love this band. Have you heard Marc Martel cover him? He was a part of the vocals in the movie Bohemian Rhapsody. He is amazing.
Down beside THE red fire light.
Freddie's greatest love was his first love and wife Mary Austin. She was the love of his life.
Red fire light, meaning the "red light district", women of the evening, pay to play....
Bohemian Rhapsody video is a must watch.
Yeah they all wrote, all members of the band
They truly truly do
Stone Cold Crazy! or brighton rock, def some of their hardest rocking songs
Love the darwin/milo/reptar shirt. Legendary.
Freddie liked the girls he was with to have a little extra cushion for the pushin. ;)
Freddy was a great performer and singer. One if a kind and thank God for that.
Also if you watch the movie it opens your eyes and mind. Made me like the band even more.
No, maybe only 20 % is truth
i live in South Africa and...without trying to sound condescending...yes, fat bottomed girls in Zulu culture are for certain the aphrodisiac!
Queen suggestion: Killer Queen
Red fire light - red light district. At least, that's what I always assumed.
