I pretty sure I’ve seen this one before, but I really do pity Jake. Mental illness is no joke, and it’s sad that he seemingly had his life all set up only for it be destroyed by something he couldn’t fix. Working as a psych nurse it’s never good when you deal with people like him. It’s the real hard part in my profession, you can heal the body with surgery, bandages, graphs, medication, chemicals, and therapy. But healing the mind is another matter altogether. A broken psyche is impossible if not near impossible to treat.
Honestly it is extremely scary it can happen to anyone at any time. Just like a heart attack or a stroke but change you mentally that you are no longer you. Been to a mentally ill camp in my country, absolutely insane to be there. Nobody acts normal but not in an agressive way, just acting in a none normal way.
I used to take care of schizos. It is a terrible condition and I really respect OP to understand how sick he is. And her moving away us the best thing for him as she happens to be his trigger. In contrast, Jess is a very dangerous person, as she is instigating psychotic episodes with her actions. Luckily (for my sanity), I do know that if Jake becomes violent (as he's prone to become) and kills the baby, Jess will be the one charged for infanticide and attempted double homicide. No doubt. Having worked in EMS/Fire before, it's pretty intense sometimes. Sometimes you get a call where the problem isn't a physical ailment but rather a mental issue. I can't tell you how many people I've talked down, even with weapons IN THEIR HANDS. I'm no hero or savior or anything like that. Never claimed to be. But every single one of those people were just hurting, even if others thought they were "evil" or "bad people" and I'd do everything nearly the same, sans for the people we were unable to save. Most of them end up being veterans and it absolutely hurt my heart to see. I deal with my own PTSD as well and when its bad, it's godawful. It's like mentally walking down a dark, dank hallway with not a soul to greet. You feel alone, trapped, like your trauma is still right behind you even if the event itself is years in the rear-view. It's a crushing, oppresive existence. And that's just my experience with ONE specific mental illness. Everyone else has their own struggles with their own demons. I can't claim to know what it's like to be schizophrenic because I've never suffered from it. I can't imagine what it would be like to hear and see things when you're AWAKE. At least for my PTSD, most of it was just night terrors and high anxiety. But having to deal with that stuff in the waking world might have driven me over the edge.

Sorry but I feel the need to mention that Jake had schizophrenia and not dementia. Schizophrenia involves psychosis; problems like hallucinations and delusions. However, in many cases it can be kept under control with medication. Dementia is a disease where your brain atrophies and includes memory loss. It is also typically fatal.

Likely inherited from a family member. Just like bipolar disorder, it's believed to be inherited by family. In some rare cases it can be spotted early on, but in a majority of others they aren't diagnosed until later in life. Jake likely started experiencing symptoms before his psychotic break, but likely masked them or played them off. However, the longer you do this the worse the breakdown becomes and he should've tried talking to someone or going to see a psychiatrist.

Still, it doesn't make the physical death less painful. Jess sped him towards it as far as I'm concerned. If she wanted him as her S/O, she should have left OP's brother and focused on just her and Jake. Giving Jake info about OP fed the worst part of his condition, made him deteriorate more. Brings back memories of my dad, I was about 6yrs old when him and my mom split so I visited him on weekends. I remember me and my dad sitting on the back porch looking over a rural highway with a lot of cars, not major city traffic but consistent. Anyway he proceeded to explain to me that the color of the vehicles that passed by represented people in our life, blue was his color white was his GF's ex hubby red meant mad, so on and so forth. Example if a white car, then a red car then a blue car went by that meant his GF's ex was mad at him. I was around 8 years old and was like that's so cool... Time passes my dad moves away when his mom gets Alsheimer's to take care of her. That was the last time I saw my dad he was in Vietnam so had VA stuff I get a letter in the mail that he was on Social Security because he FINALLY went and got checked out, he was 65 at the time turns out he was Schizo PTSD and a couple other things and couldn't be a functional adult. Turns out what kept my dad sane was smoking a lot of pot to mellow out all the voices in his head. He realized this after he got bronchial pneumonia and had to stop smoking then shit hit the fan.

That I inferred from her account leading to the break up. Barely any improvement was mentioned, her ex suffered from psychotic episodes that wouldn’t have been frequent or severe if he took medication. If I’m correct, that leaves a lot of room for discussion on whether OP was informed about the nature of the ailment or empathetic and helpful enough to her ex to begin with. Don’t get me wrong, Jake also had to take responsibility for his own treatment so we could also argue that if he didn’t (which later in the story turns out to be the case), he was definitely responsible for the consequences of his own and as a result his gf’s and all others involved’s suffering. It all boils down to their personal decisions in the end, though, but I just wanted to point out that there was still room to salvage the relationship if Jake had taken the necessary steps to stay medicated and if OP was committed to helping him in his journey. Schizophrenia causes a lot of problems for the patients as well as those close to them, but with working treatment and consistent taking of antipsychotics schizophrenics can lead a relatively normal life, no matter the fact that their condition is lifelong. Therapy and especially psychiatric consultations are incredibly important for coping with the effects of schizophrenia, but being informed and considerate to your partner is even more crucial. There’s a channel called Living Well with Schizophrenia that’s owned by a woman who suffers from schizophrenia and illustrates her challenges. It’s a good point of reference that helps understanding and empathising with the struggles of the patients.

She did call his parents. But mental health caregivers are abused by their loved ones. My biological father mentally abused my mother while she was pregnant with me. And then when she gave birth to me, he started physically abusing her. And then when my older brother got in contact with our father. He went into a manic episode and told him that he was going to kill him, our other brother and me. He’s threatened to kidnap me and take me to his Antigua, so that my mother would never see me again. So yes, after caring for her Jake for months and making sure he was mentally stable. She left him. Because schizophrenic individuals are abusive. It’s not their fault but that’s how it is.
Yeah, you probably are? She felt (imo unnecessarily) guilty about breaking up with him during his time of hardship and she felt the need to defend her action. You can't really do that without making it about what you're experiencing. There are definitely times where people use mental health problems as a crutch to defend bad behavior, but the guy clearly has legitimately bad schizophrenia. You lose your grasp of reality when you have that, he was talking about being visited by time travelers lol. Guy didn't even know what he was doing. There IS a level of mental health problems you can experience where you're not really responsible for your actions anymore. When it's this bad, he's crossed that threshold. You come off as having no idea about this.
I was married to a girl with schizophrenia for 10 years and she destroyed my life, i've lost everything. i could ve written a story 10 times longer and creepier than this one.

She did call his parents. But mental health caregivers are abused by their loved ones. My biological father mentally abused my mother while she was pregnant with me. And then when she gave birth to me, he started physically abusing her.
And then when my older brother got in contact with our father. He went into a manic episode and told him that he was going to kill him, our other brother and me. He’s threatened to kidnap me and take me to his Antigua, so that my mother would never see me again.
So yes, after caring for her Jake for months and making sure he was mentally stable. She left him. Because schizophrenic individuals are abusive. It’s not their fault but that’s how it is.

Yeah, you probably are? She felt (imo unnecessarily) guilty about breaking up with him during his time of hardship and she felt the need to defend her action. You can't really do that without making it about what you're experiencing. Throughout the rest of this entire story she shows a ton of patience and understanding with him and genuinely cares about his well-being despite all the problems he's causing her.

Yes I follow that Reddit stories with updates channel & they’ve posted like 8 of the stories I’ve heard on here the next day after they were posted on that channel. Sucksss plus idk if this is just me but sometimes in the past two videos it will repeat the exact same part of a story that they just said - needs better editing? Or something is wrong with my phone haha

It’s called REDDIT STORIES WITH UPDATES with an orange pfp. Maybe they just find the same stories idk but this channel post stories then a day or two later I hear the same one from this channel. I prefer this channel cuz it’s my favorite one but I’ve found juicy stories on that other one that weren’t released on here yet.
