Well, the day before I filmed this video I met with the paediatric consultant who assessed her during the ADOS. Today I am sharing exactly what happened during the diagnosis meeting. Bella is so lucky to have a Mum like you! I don’t have children but I imagine if I did I would have accepted the teachers assurances and left it at that. Thanks to you she’ll get all the help she needs. Your videos have probably helped so many other parents too xx

Your videos have been just what I needed. After many years of battling the system, my son had his ADOS assessment last week and we get the results tomorrow. The whole process has been so frustrating; it began when he was in Year 3 and he is now in Year 7, although I have been saying since he was a toddler that something just wasn't right.
I have found your honesty about your own personal experience so relatable and feel reassured that we have done the right thing to pursue a diagnosis. What struck the biggest chord with me is when you said about trusting your gut feeling... I just hope that tomorrow my mother's instinct is proved right.

You have done an amazing thing pushing for this i received a diagnosis at 29years old and before that i suffered a multitude of 'mental health' problems which turned out to be autism i couldnt maintain friendships i took everything literally and to heart as a chikd inwas made to do things i felt uncomfortable with that impacted on me sensory wise etc!
When my son was diagnosed i was also devastated but elated to get him the help you have portrayed this so well :) xx

What a lovely video. You absolutely have done the right thing for her, I’ve only recently found your channel but your love for your children shines through. My son has just been diagnosed with adhd at 13. I’ve always known he had some difficulties even though he doesn’t present as having “typical” symptoms. I cried in the appointment from relief that someone had listened finally. I’m now starting the process for my daughter as I see she has some difficulties too but like you say she presents/masks them differently.
I hope you get everything in place Bella needs xx

Hi I am new to your channel but this broke my heart. You are right she will have an amazing life, mainly as she has an amazing family in her corner x you take time to process this and allow yourself to take everything in. You are right to get a diagnosis then Bella can have a helping hand to get on her path of life, maybe a different route but the route best for her. I am a child psychologist and it is such a difficult thing to do and tell a mother but you had that gut feeling and I thank you for acting on that and putting Bella first. Stay strong beautiful lady. This video filled me with so much hope.
My daughter is having her first autism assessment on Tuesday (age 6) after 3 years on the waiting list and like Bella seems to cope well and just shows “milder” signs which worries me as I know when she crashes it’s bad and Iv been so worried because of her excellent masking skills she won’t get her diagnosis which she really needs for access to support. But you sharing your story about Bella has given me hope and confidence that I can get it for her and that the assessors will take care to check everything carefully so she can thrive! You here so often of girls being undiagnosed for not fitting the mould so it’s really refreshing to see this ❤️ I hope everything goes well for you and your family now she has her diagnosis and can access that extra support
Love your videos please keep them coming… sorry I waffled lol xx

Thank you so much for sharing this! My daughter is 14 and was diagnosed with ADHD when she was 7. I have often suspected that there is more to it though, but at the same time I really don´t want her to have autism. But we have finally decided that we are going to have her tested and she is going to have her ADOS soon. I can completely relate to your reaction at hearing the results though. You ARE of course right - a diagnosis doesn´t change reality , it just makes it easier to deal with it. But somewhere deep inside me there is this idea that if I don´t give it a name, it won´t be true. And yes, I also don´t want to put a label on her, I don´t want people to think "okay now, she is officially weird". So, your video really helped me to pull myself together :)). She will stay the lovely girl she is (and she really is lovely!), whatever diagnosis she gets.

"disability" is _always_ relative. relative to the society in which someone lives. in that sense, the word never means "worse." it only means "different." i will not mince words. i am disabled. people like me are disabled. but that's not ever because we are less. it's because society wasn't made for us. it's okay. we're strong. we're all strong together.

I was diagnosed with high functioning autism at 20, and yes I stuggled all through school being different and stuffed anxieties. Now I stuffer with major mental health that I think was made worse with secondary school. You have made the right decision, high school will now be a lot easier for her. Bella is a beautiful child . My mum picked it up with me 37 years ago, unfortunately back there because I weren’t severe it was dismissed, moderate and low Autism don’t exit back then

What took me a while to process was where we live there are no levels given its all classed as asd. In time it made sense as those deemed high functioning autistic were not getting the support they required it took us 6 years to get our diagnosis for our son as school saw no traits and wouldn't support. Also by not using categories it make a it less linear. I see the spectrum as a circle now where each child has there own traits of autism and some have have more in one area than another creating their own individual needs. I see traits in my daughter who is 9 now and I feel I need to move forward with her individual diagnosis as it has helped my son who is very confident and owns his autism. It's so difficult to identify in girls things don't look quite the same. With my son it was much more obvious. I'm glad you trusted your gut and got the diagnosis it can only be a positive for you all especially Bella. Xx

My daughter is 3 in June I’ve already been seeing masking behaviours from her. I wasn’t diagnosed till adulthood, Skylar has so many female characteristics of autism.
She has just had a referral for various things including hearing which there is nothing wrong with that they just say they have to check that first and speak in language checks and development checks that they say they have to do these first before the ADOS. Before autism even considered.
    She got 3 to4 on M chat.
I also suspect that she has ADHD and other similar But found that none of these will be even considered until she is at least seven years old.

Hi, I'm a 17 year old and had my ADOS assessment on the 12th of January and had my follow up 2 weeks later on Wednesday. They gave me a diagnosis of autism, but didn't give me a level of autism. My score however was 10 for communication and interaction and a 7 for behaviours giving me a total of 17 which I think is quite high. They did however say that it's not mild but didn't give me a specific level because as I'm aware of they don't tend to use levels any more which I do completely agree with but I was just curious to know where I would have fallen if they did. What was your daughters ADOS score?

In the US we have the parental forms. And then the experts do their thing. Do they sometimes, often, never do this and that.. pages of questions. It’s insanity. I’d like a smell, urine, blood test or scan of something. Something concrete. Parents see their coping skills so I think it’s common for us to think they will test lower down in the severity. They are also changing the stages a bit here in the US from when he first went through the testing.

My son has a diagnosis of dyspraxia but he is obsessed with numbers, he’s brilliant at mental maths but he has frequent night terrors and will shout out equations during one. Do you think I should get him tested for autism and if so, how did you initially go about a diagnosis?
