I inherited a decent sized tobacco farm in Virginia. It hasn’t been planted in several decades because the prior owner. My grandfather, took money from the government to not grow tobacco. He got rich and spent the rest of his life playing golf. One day I might revise that beautiful property, drink whiskey and smoke cigars as I watch those crops rise from the soil. In my head it is majestic. Great content you have here.
Great video! All of them, Scotch, Bourbon and Rye are all whiskey (whisky). You're spot on with Scotch. Difference between Bourbon and Rye is the mash bill. Bourbon must have over 50% corn which makes it sweeter. Rye has less corn which makes it spicier (hence, punch you in the back of the throat...???). This is a very simple break down so don't be hating... I know about single malts, blended, etc... but this is down and dirty simple stuff.
Being from Scotland, my main whisky intake is scotch single malt. It sounds like your exposure to good scotch is limited. Look out for scotch above 46% ABV (92 proof) and non chill filtered for a more natural experience. I think scotch has a greater range of flavour than bourbon, but I do enjoy a good Eagle Rare or Wild Turkey 101, however I would like to see a greater array of available bourbon here in Scotland. I do agree about rye. My go to alternative to scotch is rye. I love the spiciness of it and it can be an acquired taste. I reckon you would like Springbank 10yo or any Campbeltown malt if you like rye.
Was going to say the exact same thing! He has definitely never tried a Bunnahabhain 12! Most people don’t really know what scotch is… it’s a pretty general term in the sense that most scotches are Single Malts but there’s blended scotch, single grain, blended malt… someone saying they don’t like scotch just shows they don’t really understand what scotch is… In my opinion, no other spirit comes close to Single Malt Scotch! It’s just the best!
@@ganjiuana I am aware that everyone has their own tastes. He did ask for some opinion from scotch drinkers as to why we like it. I did say in my comment why I prefer it, so its clear its only my opinion. I also aimed to provide some constructive feedback to anyone seeking to improve their scotch drinking experience. I am equally happy to receive similar feedback on other spirits and even scotch.
Bourbon has and always will be go-to. The sweetness really balances it all together and makes it feel like a treat to drink. However, I also love scotch. More so than with bourbon, i really feel like i can taste the "grain". It's more like savory bread than bourbon's sweet bread taste, but both have their time and place. Scotch is better for sipping on its own than in a mixed drink, whereas bourbon feels more versatile (e.g., in an old fashioned, my favorite drink).
I don’t have much experience with Scotch. I am a big fan or Bourbon and Rye. If you haven’t already tried, I would suggest trying out a Glencairn glass. You’ll be able to pick up different characteristics that you don’t get otherwise. 🥃
Bourbon is great. Scotch is phenomenal. Fellow California expat here: welcome to the best coast (okay you’re not technically on the ATL, but you’re close enough).

Get yourself an Islay scotch, maybe lagavulin 16. Since you like cigars, you'll probably love the peat!

Or maybe he has different taste than you? Just saying, we’re all different and have our own preferences. 🤷🏻

Very scientific
Good video. 👍🏻
Do you plan on growing tobacco
And or getting into the tobacco farming industry?
Scotch is the best, try some peated stuff, but there are even really good sweet Scotch you can get
So.... you didn't really tell me which one I'd like better.
That's what I was hoping for. :(
