Hi Amy. Perfection at its best for sure. I can see why it takes so many hours to do Gus but he is soooo good and soooo beautiful!!!!. I'm going to have to send for you every time my Duke needs a grooming. You wouldn't mind coming to Florida would ya? LOL
Norma I’m already considering booking a flight to FL every 6 weeks:) frequent flier miles should accumulate 🤓 haha. Thanks for watching Gus and I girlfriend!
Gus is such a well behaved boy. Love your videos, thank you for sharing. I love using thinning shears as my scissoring isn’t spot on. Now to see if they make those Kenchi shears for Lefties! 😁
I use my thinning shears more than my regular shears. They do wonders for blending. I just don’t blend well with the straight shears. My hands always wind up going up and down leaving unevenness
WOW Amy!!!! Awesome job he looks awesome. Thank you for taking the time to show us how you did it. I have a few questions for you. What number comb did you use to set the length for the scissor work? Truman also has a very poodle like coat but a doodle face so I was thinking I could do a cross between what you did on Gus's body and more of a teddy bear face. Thoughts? Also do you clip the hair between his toes or just trim it like in the video?
May I ask about clipper comb or clipper blade size to take standard poodle legs shorter in the summer. (I'm in Florida) What size clipper comb or clipper blade would help to reduce scissoring on the legs. I'm only 2 months in to grooming my rescue poodle & thanks to you, I learned that the right tools are crucial for poodle grooming. What a difference it made to purchase some kenchi shears. I have the entry level love series kit which includes shears, thinners, blenders, & curved shears. I also got the true game changer for a newbie poodle mom,-@@@×Wahl KM10 clippers. Those clippers reduced grooming time as they went through the well brushed & clean hair with ease. Thank you for all the tips for pet owners & grooming students.
My dog does the exact same thing. I'm trying to scissors the outside of her pads and she's pulling her feet away. It's exhausting. Stubborn Doodle. I'd understand if it were nail clipping as I have quicked her 3 or 4 times. I think it must tickle their feet to be touched.
I'm going to get mini clippers for this task but I know her and its gonna be a whole lot of drama from the vibration of the clipper. She is slipping every time she goes down the stairs. Maybe I should carpet the stairs. egads
Lovely to watch that whole video, Amy. You're so skilled at what you do. Gus was so well behaved bless him; even with his front paws :o) It's so emotional for me to watch because he's the same size as my Gus was and the same color as Rusty. Really brings back some great memories for me. I sent you an email about the boring A13, lol. I'm drawing another dog at the moment, which will be up soon. Loads of hugs to you and everyone :o)
Lee Billingham Art bless you for hanging through a 40 minute tutorial 🥰. I can completely understand the emotions you must feel while watching Gus as he strongly resembles your long lost best friends. Standard Poodles are as close to “human like” as a dog could be. Have you ever considered getting another poodle? I think Jesse and Lara would approve😊 I plan to send an email your way today. Thank you for watching Gus and I❤️ and for the beautiful compliments.-HUGS!
@@GoGroomer I enjoyed watching it :o) No, we have decided that Jessie will be our last dog. Jessie is my world and I want to live pet free after she goes and just enjoy her memories. As much as I love love love animals as you know it can be hard work and we are quite restricted at times about where we go. Plus I don't think I can go through losing another one. Jessie will hit me hard, so that will be the time to make that my last animal heartache :o) xxxx
Wouldnt this be easier on a standard with the correct conformation? he's a sweet dog though. greta job..he almost loos like a standard, except the ears and tail you inspired me to groom my cat lol.. just with a dishbrush and tooth bursh but she liked it,
STAR RAMA awesome spa day for your kitty:) yes, This trim would be ideal in a standard poodle but I wanted to show you how you can compensate with your grooming if a dog resembles a breed standard and pull it off:) Gus has the confirmation much like a standard poodle and I feel this trim compliments him well 💕 He is an F1b Goldendoodle-a lot of poodle in his genetics ✨
@@GoGroomer he looks beautiful and he's lovely. I understand what you're saying. I saw a labradoodle who had a larbador body and poodle legs. NOT NICE! I would make the body as short as possible and have big legs like you do..and try to shape it so it doesn't look ridiculous.. but he also got the low belly of the labrador...eek! I have been chatting to a dog for a while..and its owner told me it was alabradoodle; this thing has hair that is short and sheds and along snout, so kind of looks like a labrador with a differnt sout.. I'm not sure if she was sold a BS bill of goods...SOme of the doodles work out really well, not all. better breeders maybe have a better chance of getting it right in selection and continuing to bred from those F1 and F2s to produce a reliable genetic "breed" in the future. I love poodles though, so I'm ok sticking with them.
germinAdel Germinadel scissor finish is my preference. Much more control over the trim and angulation. You certainly could use a snap on comb if you choose that method over scissor work. 😊
Heavens, Gus is so well behaved!!! What a beautiful amazing boy. Great job Amy!!! ❤️🐾❤️🐾❤️🐾❤️
Gus is a great model. Like he knows he’s a model Such a good boy❤
Thank you so much for this video. Will need to watch it several times and take notes because there so great info here! Great job, Amy and Gus!
Thank you for the great video, Amy!! Fantastic work 🙌😍❤️
I’m sharing this on my page 😁👍
Jun The Groomer 🥰👊🏼🤘 thank you so much for that Jun!!!
This is the best how to on RUclips on how to cut a standard doodle or poodle. This video has helped me with my chocolate labradoodle, thank you
Glad it was helpful!
He looks great!
Thanks!
Yes I absolutely use the thinning shears to smooth out my poodles.
Ashley Hoots great😊 Then I’m not the only one 💕
Very helpful talk-through!
You're such a Stud Gus! Good job Amy!

Very nice video like 15 from me you have my support

Jon thanks for the feedback:) I think I used a #2 comb to set the length and shaved the pads with a 30 blade. Let me know if you need any more info:)
What blade and clip on did you use for body :)
4 blade
What is the vacuum attachment on your clippers?

1/4” guard all over would be a nice summer trim. Of course scissor top knot and tail Pom Pom.
@GoGroomer t
Thank you for the tip. I'll try it out.
How do you dry them after a bath and make their hair so fluffy?
Where are you located? Love your grooming. I could learn a lot with your teaching.
Donna Madden Pennsylvania. Where are you? 😊
Go Groomer I am in mineral, va. I have standard poodles - a black and white. My white is 11 yrs old and not so easy as Gus is on the table.
Can you tell me what blade you used for that length?
How do you groom a poodle so it looks like she has a topknot and bangs, like the show dogs?
Great :)
Thanks!

tk2 rubey 😊 sometimes they just don’t like their feet touched.
tk2 rubey the mini pad trimmer doesn’t seem to vibrate as much and they tend to be more tolerant 😊

Why didn't you use snap comb instead of scissors??
And what about andis shears??

omg your so handsome love this
Thank you Angela:)
My boy fights me all the time with his feet and legs. 🙄
Doodles ruining the poodle breed standard… 🤦♀️
