Remember this as a new release on Tops. So excited at the time. Even more excited 50 years later to see this 'full' version. Brilliant quality. Cannot believe how good these recordings are.
Blockbuster by The Sweet kept it (and Bowie's Jean Genie) off the top spot. Now, Blockbuster is a good song, but either of the other two songs are better IMO, if they could have all had a stint at number one then it would have been fairer.
Bolan began to lose fans in 1973. David Bowie began to seriously outperform him musically. From 1974 it was quite dramatic. I quit the same year. His ego show was so disgusting that many straight young guys would no longer confess T.Rex fanship. Then serious problems began, i.e. no success in the US which seemingly shocked him, drugs, a bottle of whiskey and a line of cocaine per day, overweight etc. A terrible decline overall.
Bolan was never in competition with Bowie Bolan was his own man and made great music till the day he died Fans mostly deserted for Donny Osmond or David Cassidy That had nothing to do with the music Zinc Alloy Futuristic Dragon were both Top Notch Bolans last tours were pretty special too. And of course his wonderful legacy lives on
В 1973 мне было 17 . T.Rex и Marc Bolan уже были супергруппой . Звучали они необычно , очень классно , заводили с первых нот . Мой любимый артист и группа .
It’s 1973 again. This is wonderful to see. Hopefully The Groover will become available too. I wonder if anyone has Truck On (Tyke) from Lift Off With Ayshea?
Brought back fabulous memories. Thank you for this. Though even back then I wished the ‘visual distortion effects’ hadn’t obscured the vision of Marc Bolan ❤
Brilliant to see the whole performance, I prefer this one to the other 2 offered. You can just settle into the whole thing easier. The join of the ZDF copy jars when mixed with the super 8.
When he reigned here ...did the media come after him for being so CLEVER and outspoken to them? and " different" was he different to the other glam rockers or am i just projecting here ? (Personally i love his mindset and creative intelligence within lyrical skills. He strikes me as someone i could learn from . I can't learn from ...Bowie, Mercury /Jagger etc as so many people seem to . make sense?
Well, there were many people not liking him from the very start of the glam period. A „sellout“ for some influential guys, fans of Tyrannosaurus and people from the musical press. But in 1972 when Rexmania peaked they were all silenced. You always had to struggle as a T. Rex fan, he was considered gay and effeminate. The music counted as cheap and silly ‚teeny‘ pop. Someone wrote „ good enough for bisexual customers of ice-cream parlours“. The lyrics simply ‚good sounding‘ nonsense, which he confessed.
@@lowersaxon Thank You so much Thomas for that honest account. It is always good and fascinating to me to learn n listen to the supporters who witnessed this reign first hand & how you guys coped too because it is clear he was a very real and brutally honest type of person , so i am sure that he was singled out , and i just love how he answers the questions in his interviews. The fact he confessed to his lyrical content being good sounding nonsense - ah , Nothing like calling their bluff ! i can feel he was a force to be reckoned with haha
@Principessa180 Is that it_ That I just never Learned Anything from those others?! It has puzzled me since 2017 when I saw the commercial with this clip and Marc let me know that_YES- something really had been missing & It was him❤️🔥Thank you! Your insight really helped a sister out!
Yes, the same performance. The Super8 is the whole song whereas the ZDF insert is only 1.50. The ZDF performance has now been upgraded to High Def and this will also be made available today.
It's predominantly Robin Hood - watch how Marc sings the words - the official EMI sheet music is wrong. It's possible that the words "rock 'n' roll" are sung at some point. Personally, I think the line is: "Friends say he's fine, friends say he's good etc.... " which is consistent with the idea of singing about a person - not a concept.
Very psyched to see this! Thanks to all who worked so hard to give us this treat.
Love him when he puts his arms in the air! Oh Marc!! ❤️

Excellent & well restored. Thank you to Roger Hill and all involved
1973 seen on ZDF and now the sequel. 50 years later and I'm still as excited as I was then. 🙂
Before the screen in 1973 too.
Rock on Marc, your funky tunes will last forever!
that riff rules
Really on top of their gsme here, how was this not a number 1?
The Groover now please!

A piece of art in its own right.
Absolutely love this

Priceless footage - memories come flooding backk....
The amazing genius that is Mr Marc Bolan and T,Rex
Rock on Rex fans.
Yeah my first rock n roll hero, sadly after the Groover I’d discovered Deep Purple and I was off on another musical journey 🎶

Wonderful..
My hero forever ❤
Very kind . Thank You
Stunning,,,,,,just Stunning!
Thank you ❤️
❤very WONDERFUL!!!
thanks to share ❤
That was fun. I used to film bands in super 8 off the television before VCRs were affordable.
See if anything you filmed is now lost and you can submit them to someone if the films are still around.
I'm happy to finally get to see the premier. Thank you. 😊❤
Thanks for sharing.
в 73 мне было 14 лет .я услышал их у Севы Новгородцева .они сразу запали мне в душу.одна из моих любимых групп.
Brought back fabulous memories. Thank you for this. Though even back then I wished the ‘visual distortion effects’ hadn’t obscured the vision of Marc Bolan ❤
Best band ever, shame he died to early 😢😢
Great job on the restoration, what software did you use to remove the camera flicker from this?
Will you be showing the Groover please.
Yesssss
Best of the Best

And still the BBC should be ashamed of themselves for wiping their tapes!
Lots of other things the BBC should be ashamed of....

Snobbily I said - I was into T-Rex before you were. And it would make a great sentence on a T-shirt
Is this Super 8 film the same performance as the ZDF Disco 'Insert' ruclips.net/video/o7jQnccbKPc/видео.html that the BBC sent over to Germany?
Yes, the same performance. The Super8 is the whole song whereas the ZDF insert is only 1.50. The ZDF performance has now been upgraded to High Def and this will also be made available today.
Would it still have been the Ladybirds doing the backing vocals on Top of the Pops at this time?
Yes, they worked on TOTP until 1978, but this is lip sync to the studio track, with Barry St John, Vicky Brown and Sue & Sunny on backing vocals.
@@stephenhowell5611 thankfully Gloria Jones didn't ruin this one!!
this looks for me more like filmed from a broadcast... for now
Yes it was. On 8mm film. The audio was recorded inline onto a reel to reel tape recorder.

Looks like you’ve copied the lyrics from Apple Music. Full of mistakes and it’s Rock ‘n’ Roll not Robin Hood but I can’t wait to see this.

Marc always alternated between Robin Hood and Rock n Roll
@@DJPopSongsSorry, I think thats wrong. „Friends say its fine, …R. Hood? No way!
@@lowersaxon as I said - I believe Marc sings “friends say he’s fine - friends say he’s good - not “it’s” . Watch the video . . .
