No this is for sure a thing. I’m currently trying to remove the sound. The design makes me believe the removed item is an “amplifier” which makes the beeping noise from the copper coil much louder and more audible. Ive seen a guy remove the coil in his video. Trying to confirm that it’s proper form or if I just need to sever a connection
@@NSDG813 So I just did a new Airtag and it seems to be identical to the ones in this video. The only difference I noted is that the speaker was glued to the plastic rather than the board side. It did become silent after removal just like before so I'm not sure what happened with your case.
Only problem is if you remove them at ring the warranty isn’t any good. I took it into Apple to have them look at it because it wasn’t working. He was really rude. Threw his hands in the air and says I can’t help you. I have had it a year and I was just replacing the battery. And yes I know all about the bitter taste that has to be removed. So I just threw it away and bought a new one. Last time my car was stolen I got it back in 4 hours. It’s been stolen three times. The thieves are going to get smart now and see if there is one close to them. Zi have alarm turned off but I do t think that stops others from turning it on.
Appreciate it. Android user and just got the ridge wallet with the airtag clip. Have an ipad at home to pair it with, and don't want it making noise while away.
That’s why things in our house was “glitching”electronics would beep or stop working. things in our car “was delayed” ‘not working” my husbands lock to the car “suddenly” stopped working….

After I removed the speaker, there is still sound on a very low volume?

Yes disabling the speaker would void the warranty but at $25 a pop they are cheap enough that the warranty doesn't matter
I removed the speaker and it still beeps. Apple probably installed duel speaker 🤦🏽♂️

Any way to make it so the device won't show up on the theif's phone also?
Not that I am aware of, you just have to hide the AirTag well enough on the vehicle in question that they can't quickly find it.

You do realize there are plenty of legitimate anti-theft purposes for air tags that only work if the air tag doesn't make noise right?
