  • I've been hearing this idea floated lately that shiny pokemon are way too easy in pokemon scarlet and violet! This is a subject that has been on my mind as I get older and continue to play pokemon and do things like shiny hunt and its a lot deeper than I think its getting credit for. Wow, way to put things into perspective. I was trying to put my finger on it, but I realized that during those 30 minutes of sandwich time, I have to really work my butt off. There're no breaks, you gotta be doing town/picnic respawns or running around the overworld and paying attention 100% of the time. After a sandwich wears off I need to take a break cause I was straining my eyes too much. I have to admit there's something to the old shiny methods that was a little easier in terms of how relaxed it could be, even if the process took longer overall.
    With SV I really do wish there were some kind of additional audiovisual indication just to make it a smidge easier for folks like me. Anyway great video dude.

    another undeniable banger! truthfully my one and only gripe in gen 9 is not hearing that shiny sound which pokemon had established as integral to the formula. and this is all without mentioning how inaccessible shiny hunting in s/v is without the audio cue and sometimes indistinguishable visuals

    I feel like the shinies being so easy to get nowadays is a double edged sword, on one hand you can get almost any shiny easily, and I'm somewhat ok with that considering shiny Pokémon are purely aesthetic, like there's no difference between a shiny Pokémon and a regular Pokémon besides it's color, but at the same time shiny Pokémon don't feel as special anymore because they're not as rare anymore, like back then seeing a shiny felt so amazing, I often describe it as kinda being similar to seeing a shooting star, but now shinies are typically not that exciting considering they're not as rare as they used to be, that's how I feel about shiny hunting in the newer games

  • @mcihay246
    @mcihay246 Год назад +4

    Time is indeed more precious nowadays than it has ever been. Even for those that are younger.
    Because unlike the past, video games are much more accessible now to where a player nowadays would no doubt have a backlog of video games.

    i genuinely hope they add the sparkle sounds + making shiny pokemon harder to despawn in future games… like once they’re loaded in they’ll make a sparkling sound and they’ll stay on the map for longer distances compared to the short range of normal pokemon

    based and nuance-pilled analysis!! I appreciate the ability for players to choose how shiny-hunting goes for them--I haven't done much of it but I the sandwich aspect seems fun--but I do agree that I wish there were more visible or audible twinkling cues (maybe they could make that a toggle-able feature even)!

    I agree with you and im surprised how rarely this has been discussed. One thing is I feel the old game did have semi active methids, like radar chaining as alternatives. Gen 9 is like a new level of active for it but imo gen 6 was peak for fun shiny hunting.
    Nice hat and wall fames.

    Shiny odds are bullshit in the first place. I've played every pokemon game multiple times and have never once encountered a shiny outside of Red Gyradose which was given to me. If you have a player who hasn't encountered a single shiny in 13 years of playing the games then it's absolutely time to change things.

    If it's that old 1 in 8192 odds then it's not really a mechanic it's just luck that makes you say ah cool man nice. When you can chain it together and actively seek something it feels much more like a mechanic and something you can set your mind to doing. It's not fun when it's just sheer luck, it'd be like saying that the lottery in Pokemon is more fun if you only use your Trainer ID

    I think what they did with shiny hunting in Gen 9 was genius, how long is a tv show episode? 30 minutes. If you ever wanted to hunt something that can overworld spawn then you can find it usually no problem. It’s when you have to egg hunt for things where it’s def gotten weirder but overall most egg Pokémon are worth the time and effort. But then being able to understand peoples attention spans is incredible aside from all the farming and story gameplay that needs to be done first but even that doesent require full attention

    My least favorite part of shinies in SV is how many pokemon are extremely similar between the two forms. I have missed *so many* shinies and I didnt even know they were on my screen. Other than that i'm still getting the serotonin boosts from catching a shiny so that's all i care about tbh

    honestly, hunting is easier but it's more annoying now. as a full odds hunter, it's so much worse running around in sv looking for shinies, because it costing my whole attention means i have nothing to distract me from the process of grinding out encounters, let alone pick up a second game to maybe hunt something else on the side. plus, it gives me a headache staring at every little pokemon that comes my way

    I'm not a fan of anything that increases shiny odds past the original 1/8192. Their mysticism has been vastly reduced. I think Pokémon Go has played a large role in this also with days full of shiny Pokémon.

      I can accept some changes, but I do think that the BASE chances for shiny Pokémon ought to be kept rare.
      It’s not really supposed to be about unlocking a new character skin, but about the search for the great Purple Wailord, Moby Blart.

    People forget how much they do to get that 1/512. You have to beat the game, get the shiny charm, know where to go, what sandwich to make, what ingredients you need to make that sandwich, where to go to get the ingredients.
    PLA had the shiny charm and dex research levels to help your odds. Also, the cool noise when a shiny shows up.
    Basically, if you work "hard" in the game, you get rewarded with better odds.

    But I will say this: *the best shinies are the ones you were never looking for in the first place.* If you're just playing the game as normal, not shiny hunting purposefully, there is still nothing sweeter than walking around Paldea and pausing to stare at a group of wild Deerling. Because you happen to notice something "off" about one of them in the group of Deerling. "Is that a pink flower on its head??" you think as you encounter it and sure enough, it sparkles.

    I just wish the team wasn’t split into 2 when developing SV and PLA. Had this year had 1 more year a lot of QoL from Gen 8 (the fact that the left and right bumpers could be used as the A button, poke jobs, the reset lady in isle of armor that resets Evs, etc.) and the shiny hunting methods from PLA (the overworld sparkles) this game would be in a much better state

  • @Metroid4ever
    @Metroid4ever 2 месяца назад

    I dunno, yes and no? Without an audio cue to help grab your attention, those stupidly irritating barely-different shinies are still gonna get missed. I swear I missed a shiny Slowpoke because I was riding by and couldn't tell at a glance if it was shiny or not (was too focused going somewhere else to check). And the human eyes can only catch so much, when there's so many Pokemon to scan for on the screen. Also fuck the really tiny Pokemon species like Flabebe and Tynamo. i wouldn't be able to spot a shiny among them if I tried.
    Also Minior says hi.

    Based off personal experience with my Violet playthrough: 2 shiny Pokemon in the wild before I even got the charm, not even in an outbreak either. First time I tried a shining power sandwich with the charm, 2 shinies back to back.
    It feels easier from an anecdotal POV but it is still RNG at the end of the day - to contrast, my 1600+ egg shiny Axew. Even with Masuda method and charm, I was having the worst luck, haha.

    I mean the answer is 100% yes. Taking something thats only purpose is to be rare and making it common defeats the ENTIRE point of shiny pokemon. You alienate the hardcore audience by diluting the point. The only people who like the changes are casuals who never were into shiny hunting before. Good thing Scarlet and Violet are horrible games that I will never again play so it doesn't affect me.

    But now people can have shiny pokemon without having no life or being a hacker, clearly they don't care about their two main demographics

  • @RiqMoran
    @RiqMoran 8 месяцев назад

    Absolutely not! SV strikes the best time/reward balance in shiny hunting history. The problem with mindnumbing luckbased repetitive gameplay is that if it doesnt yield results in a timely manner then there is no sense of progression and that is bad game design.
    A fruitless hunt spanning hours spread across multiple days will feel pointless and cause the player to give up or never hunt again. Most hunts should be measured in minutes or hours, not days and weeks. Shiny hunting is more popular now than ever, and it's thanks in large part to the required time being lowered to a level where it makes sense and people are willing to invest their time in it.

    • @RiqMoran
      @RiqMoran 8 месяцев назад

      Hate to say it, but the loudest detractors just hate seeing others happy. They dont discuss the process/experience like this video, they just focus on how if other ppl have access to something then in their eyes its worth less. So it really sounds like their enjoyment is tied to others not being able to enjoy that same thing. When i see other people use a shiny i have, it makes me happy. We both hunted the same thing. I really dont understand how that could upset someone.

    • @RiqMoran
      @RiqMoran 8 месяцев назад

      One last thing. Shinies have historically been underutilized and poorly implemented in the games. No one had access to the enjoyment they brought about except mostly hackers. Instead of being an old wives tale about something that happens once in a blue moon, now everyone who wants them can enjoy them and thats fine by me.

    My answer is yes, I LOVE the newer games unlike many older fans who incessantly whine about them, but the easy access to shiny Pokemon is something I LOATHE! They are meant to be special memories you cherish all your life, not just another Tuesday. I feel like this issue is at its worst in PLA, where it's actively difficult to NOT boost your shiny odds!
