One of my red leghorns lost total use of her leg. It was the saddest things I have ever seen. She would drag herself by one leg . She couldn’t even get into the coop. I watched her for the day. She finally just laid on her side and curled her legs underneath her. I could tell that she was suffering. I couldn’t help her, and I just couldn’t stand to see her suffering in such a way. Sadly, I put her down. I’m 67 years old and I cried like a baby while holding her. I’ve got three left. If I could find a good home for them, I’d let them go. This heartbreaking event has shown me that I have no means of caring for my girls when something like this happens. One of her sisters developed Bumblefoot a couple of weeks later, and I successfully treated her foot. My first time dealing with that. Way too much stress on an old guy.
I’m sorry! It’s super hard for me as well. This girl made it and got better. Unfortunately, I’ve lost 2 others to becoming egg bound. And 1 that I adopted was just gone one morning. I’ll never know what happened to her. I don’t know if losing pets ever gets easy. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks! I’ve looked and looked. I’m pretty sure she sprained it. Hoping she’s a fast healer. Little babe even laid an egg this morning. She squawks at me when I come around, I’m sure she’s lonely 😞 .

The pecking order is a real thing, it’s so sad but it’s nature. Could she have a splinter maybe? Wishing her a quick recovery!
