So interesting to hear the thoughts about native vs non native, I like the flexibility. Some gardeners are quite rigid on this point. Like bamboo, we must bend in the wind….extreme weather is kinder if you have such diversity, and of course sinking that much carbon into the soil is helping rather than exacerbating the situation. I loved the rampaging cattle story and the fish! The seal of nature’s approval ❤️
I visited Guyton's food forest after seeing one of the videos and it was an amazing experience - very inspirational to do it in my country Malta . This is my 3rd time watching this video. Please do more similar videos because they are very inspirational. 1 suggestion - the video is very pixilated try to use a better camera.
Thank you for sharing this… We are currently living in Portugal helping out my elderly parents. We wanted to buy land to create a food forest, but sadly a few years ago they made laws forcing property owners to strim all vegetation (right down to the ground) during the summer, including pruning back trees and bushes. It’s supposedly being enforced to cut back on forest fires, but the results will likely be devastating to wildlife- birds, insects, native plants etc. So, it’s unlikely we’d be able to create a food forest here without the risk of very heavy fines. It’s bizarre to me that the problem of commercial eucalyptus plantations all over the country isn’t being addressed as the fire hazard, and that instead natural vegetation is blamed. It’s only been since the native forests were replaced with commercial monoculture plantations that the fires have been a devastating problem. But it seems greed for profit rules the day here. Thus, our food forest dream will have to be in another country now….
Lovely Garden. I hope I will have the chance to see my Garden to evolve that way. I am in my first growing season, which I found difficult because the soil life and ground cover was hard to kick-start or maybe because it was winter.😂
Beautiful. You are truly a shepherd of the forest. Some will never understand the time put into this life style and the humbleness that one feels when getting your hands dirty. Could you recommend any reading material?
Dear Sir. Now i know what Gandalf is up to during his off time. Thank you for sharing this. I recently got an overgrown orchard. Nature has taken it over. And i need some help to figure out how to turn the orchard into a natural food production enviroment. A combination between a food forest and natural protected enviroment for insects and animals. I am from South Africa
Thank you for sharing your beautiful food forest with us! I enjoyed every moment and hearing all about the evolution of the food forest was especially interesting!
Oh my god haha. Imagine you spend 25 years building a food forest, you leave a few days and when you come back you realize cows destroyed your fence and stepped on every inches of the forest. I would have a heart attack. But it shows how resilient this method of gardening is.
few mosquitoes in such a system, as there is no standing water (soil absorbs it), plenty of predators, and even fish in the stream ! RIP mosquito & mosquito eggs ='). I guess there might be some time in summer when there is some though
Redefining the word garden is now essential, previously our taste and perception was dictated by the will to create a profitable industry around the concept. FACT
In the perfect universe in an optimal life, i would've liked to of been born around such an area, a scientist, and to of studied the benefits and factors around all the parts of such plants. Almost established such a life, but it was all stolen and ruined and i was wasted, as are many it seems around these parts. I saw the volume of space if of "grass" and cement coudl of potentially been the 7 layer food forest, i sought to try and spread that idea but failed. So many want drugs, yet if they had a plant rich diet, they would of had a full-filled and healthy life. I am bloody depressed and morning drunk, near dead dreamer with a fraction of life left. Unfair.
green is beautiful
thank you for upload

Thank you for such an amazing and inspiring video. This video truly deserves more views.
18.38 time stamp little bird flies in to frame. Perfect.
Twenty years later I'm learning the same lesson about how big some trees get. Also getting some great garden poles from coppicing a 'weed'.
beautiful and insightful watch

It’s very cute that his wife’s name is Robin and she’s beating the bird to the morning raspberries.

A great video thank you for uploading. Any chance of a higher definition (480p -> 1080p) edition?

thank you amazing
What are some food forest books that Robert would suggest?
480p for such a beautiful garden is just a crime.
I put Organic Olive Oil in my cordless electric chainsaw. Thank you for this beautiful video!
22:44 Yes but now we all do! and in a catastrophe half the world's diaspora are going to descend on Riverton lol

Which was the plant he said you can rub on your skin that smell amazing? Balm of Gilead it sound like he said?
How far do you live near it? I'd like to ask how you solve the mosquitoes and snakes issues. Thanks for sharing your real experiences.
There are no snakes in New Zealand

Oh for a life without fear of snake!
Why can’t you say the price

Wise Man: You speak eloquently. Still, alas, the scientifically-unintellgent masses will not grasp your thinking. And those masses are large.
i hope he got one of those color blind glasses until now
