@@bigjack986 No, it was dependent on the refresh rate, basically how many times per second the game would update its physics. People on PC would keep it at such a low number that doing this bump against the box would move your hitbox out of alignment and thus through the wall. Which is why it never occurred until the PC port of Halo 2 anniversary, and was patched when they took away the ability to change the game's refresh rate, aside from the original PC port
So glad I've still got my 360 and collectors edition of halo 2. Honestly knew a lot about Halo 2 but I've never known about the bump skipping until I was watching a WR speedrun earlier. Dope video.
Ah yes, spaghetti code at its finest. I remember seeing a video of these bump jumps and it breaking down how the game reads it, it's actually very interesting.
You're gradually displacing your actual character hitbox from the first person camera by bumping into certain objects, and when displaced far enough by constant bumping, you can clip through thin walls.
@@mithayusdiaz7617 will it not work, or is it just a lot harder to pull off? Because I’m willing to spend a good amount of time trying it to skip the first two encounters
You just bump into the box by walking forward a bunch of times to offset your hitbox. The trick is only moving forward and backwards enough so you don't hit the wall behind you - otherwise it resets your hitbox and you have to start over.
Ok not gonna lie IV spent two hours (unfortunately I wish this was an exaggeration) trying this then I read a comment about tic rate ect I'm feeling like I'm not able to on the new Xbox SX MCC Is that the problem? Or am I just a bit clumsy? IV searched everywhere for an answer and I can't find it (Anyone who knows id love to hear)
No, in mcc there are different physics because of anniversary so its impossible to do the bump, plus you need a different tick rate like 30 or else it can't work
It could since the sword fly does, you only have a fraction of what you used to have for frame timing but it is possible to sword fly so it could be possible for this
@@iliketrains3342 Something to do with hitbox displacement... When you bump into the box, your hitbox gets displaced behind you little by little. Enough bumps and your first-person view camera can go through thin walls since the hitbox that would normally stop this from happening is now far enough behind you to where it can.
Halo 2, out for nearly 17 years at this point, and I am just finding this.
Same here, baffling isn't it?
It's PC exclusive, and I believe it was patched out. It had to do with the refresh rate, and was only done on some very specific spots
@@Espartanica damn now I actually have to do my legendary playthrough legit on this part
@@Espartanica It can still be done with TAS I'm pretty sure but yeah basically so precise it's impossible for humans

Dope video.
Okay so I get what you're doing but how do you know when to jump back?
After bumping into it successfully about 8-13 times where you kinda see a "bounce" when hitting the box.
@@xtalviper that was a fast reply for a 2 year old video lol, thanks.
It helped me today lol
Basically time traveled.
Saw this on an MCC video and trying to figure out how to do it
U got to mod mcc to be 30 tick rates or do it on og version
Ah yes, spaghetti code at its finest. I remember seeing a video of these bump jumps and it breaking down how the game reads it, it's actually very interesting.
Chief what are you doing!? Stop humping the crate!
Chief?
The guy is playing on the original Xbox version of Halo 2...

We still have the original xbox and a disc.

This trick breaks my brain, I just don't get how it works

Ah yes, the beautiful resolution
I’m really glad I saw this before I attempted Halo 2 LASO
did it work?
@@thegoat2350 havent tried it yet.
If you’re not on H2 Classic or modding MCC to play on 30 tick rate, this trick won’t work

KillerKitten753. If you follow Halo Completionist’s LASO guide you’ll find it much easier I can assure you.
chief fuckin da box
Skipping Halo 2's opening cutscenes should be a federal crime.
Shut up.
Is this on Project Cartographer? I tried it but it didn't work, if this trick is framerate dependent then I guess I could try limiting my fps to 30.
Does this work on MCC? If not, would reducing my frame rate work?
Can you do this on MCC, its con a help me on laso
Not without cheating and using a mod to lower the tick rate to 30, which I think would invalidate a LASO.
I’m gonna say this doesn’t work on Halo 2A?
how do you do this? is it a combo of buttons or is it just walking into the box
You just bump into the box by walking forward a bunch of times to offset your hitbox. The trick is only moving forward and backwards enough so you don't hit the wall behind you - otherwise it resets your hitbox and you have to start over.
How does anyone know this!?

Does this work on mcc or just original hardware?

Does this work on mcc
I doubt it as it was 60 FPS and used the Vista engine, which rendered many of the original glitches useless.
