Thanks for the video. I have a 360 view tank. Any suggestions regarding the construction of the live rock to secure the display. Essentially we will be building the display in the center of the 210 gallon tank allowing for the fish to use the perimeter.
Need some expert advice please. I bought some live rock today from my LFS and kept it in a bucket with pre mixed RO water salinity 1.026. I have it with a heater and circulation pump but the water has turned brown. Setting my tank up tomorrow , should I use the brown water with my live rock as it may be holding the good bacteria? It's turned brown water within 6 hours in the bucket.
another great educational vid question...I purchased branch coral that had been out of the water for some time placing it into my 800ltr cycling tank I find there is a decaying smell and the skimmer is producing dark brown krap all parameters are ok with PO3 just rising to 0.25 there is some looks like seaweed or maybe mushroom plant and maybe coral like small branches(looks good) can I send a few pic's for you to have a look living in Bangkok there is a language barrier so I have to get info from someone who I can explain to
I am setting up a my first salt tank and just placed live rock in my tank yesterday to wake up this morning to the live rock turning white almost like a hard scaling and some looking like some covered them in powered sugar. Checked water levels last night with 6 in 1 test strip all were good but guessing my ammonia is still probably high thus just starting the cycle. Any idea why my live rock would be turning white?
how do I clean my rock if I left it outside due to a move from one house to another. Someone at the fish store said I can take them out and wash them.Clean them with what???
Make one yourself you lazy bleeder, you only want some plastic cut-off strips, and cut some slots in it to push together ! I dont like em, i used to use cable ties to join rocks together, dill a hole in the rock where you want it, and push the ties through & tighten ! they'll never be seen because alge will grow over it all (if your tank is running right !!)
WOW! Please help: I just started my marine tank and it's doing well with a threadfin and yellow tang, (nothing real expensive). I found a wonderful lava rock (I live in Hawaii), on the side of the road. It was very nice and very little dirt or bugs embedded in it. I took it home and soaked it in a 20% bleach solution for 2 days. I then rinsed it very well until there was no residual runoff. I then placed it in my oven at 325 degrees for three hours and that's where I am right now. I am afraid to put it in the aquarium. What do you think? thanx
What is your opinion about putting the live rock in before the sand, then letting let the live rock cure for 6 weeks, water change, then add a bit of sand?
My rock is going through the hairy algae phase should I just let it run its course, or add a clean up crew or something, if I could have some advice that would be awesome thanks.
Nice video. But i have a question here. If we fully cure live rock for 4 to 8 weeks, it means we are making ammonia to zero. This means the water is cycled. So when we put the fully cured live rock into our new aquarium tank, how will it help the water in the tank to cycle?
hi, my 34 litre tank has about 5kg of live rock and I have been running it for about 2 days now with a protein skimmer. How often would you recommend I change the water, and what percentage? great video by the way, hope to hear from you soon!
Dump the protein scimmer, you dont need it yet !! just run a water pump to get water pushing around the rock (so theres no still quiet areas) you need a fair bit of power to do this.. leave it like this for 2 months, NO filters, or skimmers.. these will take out what your trying to achieve a good bactieral build up ! ( The biggest mistake with starting marine fish keeping is being to inpatient) to avoid problem down the line, DONT rush the steps taken !
I forgot to say, have your lights on above the tank, bacteria loves light to thrive.. dont change the water to often, if at all during the maturing stage.. do regular nitrite tests, daily, let it build up to 'blood red' on the chart, to its peak.. do nothing, no water change, let it carry on running like this, now the nitrite will start to drop rapidly as the bacteria builds up enough to deal with the nitrite, do the tests again, if its crystal clear (no red or light pink) Now your ready to do a 30% water change, let that run for a couple of days, now your ready to add a couple fish.. hardy Damsels !! Hope this helps..

Hi. Thanks for this very comprehensive video. I'm a new to salt aquarium and want to run experiments on reef fish, part of a PostDoc. I live in a costal tropical region. I already collected dead corals, that I left to dry for one month. I could cure this coral for one month. Alternatively, I could go pick up more dead coral and not drying it. I would be very curious to know what you recommend. Would it speed the curing process, or eliminate it? Best.
How much does it weigh compared to stones? I want to buy live rock online cause the aquarium store here is extremely overpriced. And i also have to be careful with the weight i buy cause tax support is gonna want a shit ton of money if it ways too much.... Can someone name some online stores that are trusted? I live in Scandinavia so preferably shops that ship to Faroe Islands. :P
Very good video Paul! I really like your videos because I know that u really know what u are talking about!! 😀
Thank you. Very good video
Good video and explanation. Thank you
Love the videos, thanks for all the great advice.

thanx it was really understandable ,do u have same kind a video with sand ?

No good bacteria is not in the water
enjoyed watching this

that is normal
there are videos on that on this channel

Rita Mack I would only wash it in saltwater
Thanks
Where can I get that shelf you referenced? Do I just go to a place like Home Depot or do pet stores sell them specifically for aquariums?

The lava rock we get in Australia tends to be full of phosphate so I would check that before you add it
What is your opinion about putting the live rock in before the sand, then letting let the live rock cure for 6 weeks, water change, then add a bit of sand?
I prefer to add them at the same time
My rock is going through the hairy algae phase should I just let it run its course, or add a clean up crew or something, if I could have some advice that would be awesome thanks.
I would do a water change and start using phosphate removers asap
add clean up crew if the other levels are fine

So when we put the fully cured live rock into our new aquarium tank, how will it help the water in the tank to cycle?
because you assume it already has lots of good bacteria and brings more surface area
I want to do a 125g with no skimmer, but gfo and carbon yes. Opinion on water changes plz.
+Impaeratorae i would do 20% per month
+Majestic AquariumsTV That's what I had in mind too, thanks!
Impaeratorae Also if you're not running a skimmer you'd really benefit from using Poly Filter. I'm sure Paul would agree with me on that.
Where did you purchase that shelf?

how long can live rock be out of the water?and still be ok
Is is ok as long as it stays moist. Normally 12 hours like low tide
+Majestic AquariumsTV
k thanx
can u use ne glue in a saltwater tank
reef putty
Some great tips there but aren't most crabs attached to live rock beneficial
Great Video!
Is it normal for live rocks to be brownish-green? (like ones in your vid)
only if it is new rock
established rock should be purple if your water quality is correct
I'm going to harvest live tick from my local beach. Hope it works.

all rock is different
try a little and monitor results
Can I.collect my own live rock from the sea?

anyone else think the thumbnail was weed and that this could be a a hell of a meme
Do I need to ‘ process’ the rock in any way before adding?
Awsome mate!
Would this work for a turtle tank?
live rock is just for salt water

make sure you use gloves, the guy never uses gloves lol
Never place rocks on your sand because they can fall when fish dig into the sand!
Also that tank with 3 sharks..... Poor animales
The sand needs to be as little as possible, in fact its better with none ! its only there to look good !
Both of y’all are wrong
top jooon
Live dead rock lol
Looks dead to me
lol
Sorry, but that scape looks so unnatural...
