I'm with Jemele: I think the party has overemphasized the importance of the debate and stayed on the topic too long. If the issue is really anti-Trump, then the Democrats should focus their campaigns on pointing out how dangerous a Trump presidency is and how the Democrats have come through for the people. That is more of the work of actual campaigning. Criticizing president Biden is easy to do, but I don't see it as the most helpful for the individual races. It may help individual candidates look better to big donors, but I've gotten to the point, where I don't want to donate a penny to those who have called for Biden to give up.
My impression is that people who talk about the "healthiness" of changing the presidential candidate... my impression is that they tend to be the ones hoping that Biden will step down... After Biden finishes a hour-long solo, unscripted press conference, what happens? A congressman voices his lack of support for Biden saying it doesn't matter what Biden has just accomplished because the congressman does not have 100% confidence that Biden won't have another bad debate performance. Ok, I don't think that's fair. No sports team can guarantee to win every time. What they can do is show improvement in the areas that hurt them before and Biden has done that: Biden showed more energy in movement and voice; appeared healthier; and was conversant on a number of subjects which showed depth and mastery. The NATO conference showed Biden's deep foreign knowledge and the respect and good relations with other world leaders. These have to be positive signs and the congressman chooses that moment to keep people focused on the past. I don't find that healthy. If we assume good intentions, it was politically tone deaf. And all these calls for leadership change, sucks the attention away from Trump and keeps the president looking weak despite signs of improvement. That is not healthy.
And as a long time Democrat voter, I'm losing faith in the party. In 2020, I mainly voted for Biden because he was the Democratic nominee. But today, I feel that he has done the heavy lifting of actually performing the job well, and it's just wrong to take the job away from him over one debate, that I think was a lot more difficult that people give him credit for. If I were debating a relentlessly lying troll, I know that it can be hard to know where to even start the fact-checking when what you're dealing with is so far removed from actual facts. I didn't find Biden so much confused as just too wonky and stuck in the weeds, which I know can be improved. Anyway, I've gotten to the point where I don't want to donate to people who are trying to get Biden to step down. I'm sorry I ever voted for one person who is hoping Biden will step down and I don't want to vote for that person ever again. And there's a lot more negative feeling towards the party that I never felt before. So that's how I feel about all this public "healthy" discussion. Biden has already proven that he can do the real job. That counts for more to me than someone who can just do the debate. And yeah, it's about getting new voters, but as one of the "old" voters, if they force Biden out, I'll like the Democrats a lot less than I did before.

Joyce is right, the Democratic Party is a big-tent party. We agree to disagree mostly, and that's how we keep the party together. But the current situation we are in is beyond agreeing to disagree. Our democracy is at stake, and there needs to be agreement throughout the party as a whole that we don't have time to waste, Biden/Harris is the nominee. Have you ever watched a loved one slip into dementia? Slowly, slowly, then all of a sudden, they're gone. It's fair for us to question if this is happening to the president.

Yes, I have, and you describe it perfectly. Dad could play a good game and hide his dementia for some time. He would initially have confused moments, temper outbursts, and then rally. That went on for some time, with red flags here and there, until it all fell apart in a completely disastrous way. My mother was in denial at first, and then completely overwhelmed. A Doctor finally intervened and helped us. That is what is happening here with the President and First Lady Jill Biden, and and intervention is needed.
