my cockatiel(female) and my terrapin(male) were best friends lol. she loved riding on his shell and he used to wait outside her cage and wait for her to climb on.
@Chip sadly my cocktail died from cancer and 6 yrs later my terrapin(whose name was Chip) died at the vets office. the vet had a relatively busy morning that day so he told us all to leave our pets with the receptionist and to come n get them later in the evening. after a few hours we received a call that someone's cat attacked and k¡lled him. so... :(
My little sister got a cockateil, she really wanted one... she said she will be really responsible! when she got him (he was a baby and never had a human owner before!) she didnt want to clean his cage or bathe him or clean any of the seeds on the floor :( she wanted to get rid for him for "being untamed and mean." my parents agreed to get him back to the pet store not on my watch!! and i begged them to keep him as my parrot and they finally agreed for a last chance now lemon is my best friend!!i always take care of him my sister wanted him after i tamed him, i told her no but she can still play with him if you ever get any pet just be patient with it and trust me it will get used to you :) i really dont blame my sister sine she was young
My bird is a mix. Sometimes he lets me pet him, and rarely goes on my finger (VERY rarely), and usually flies off after getting on. Only on specific spots in my house does he let me pet him. It's odd.
The day after I got my white-faced cockatiel, he let me pet him and then after a few hours of just sitting by his cage and letting him just kinda sit there (he was pretty nervous at first) he let me take him out of the cage :) i love my little boy ❤️❤️
my lovebirds are the same way. they are actually fairly quiet most of the time but get a bit talkative in the morning, then in the midafternoon for a little bit and their loudest hour id say id say is anywhere from 5-7 oclock they get super chirpy and screechy. thanksgiving the other night we were in the other room having our dinner and they were making a racket i was like what is going on over there lol. they were just eating and playing. my lovebirds actually just had 2 babies that are a week old about but they are still in the nest so my female lovie stays in the nest most of the day now but she comes out in the evening to eat... figure the parents must be celebrating a few moments of peace away from the babies while having dinner and playing before they have to go back to the nest to feed the chicks.
I have a rescue senior cockatiel, finally after a little over a year of having him he FINALLY STEPPED UP! He just began to open up and it’s so worth it, I also have another male cockatiel and a female green cheek :) Only my young cockatiel likes scratches, my other two birds don’t lol
My cockatiels were super tame when I got them. I kinda expected them to need some time to adjust to their new home and to me, but instead they climbed on my shoulders as soon as I got home with them. It was the sweetest :) We hang out together everyday single day now and they are the best pets ever.
the fact that ur new videos r starting to get as much views and attention as ur old videos genuinely makes me so happy :) ive been watching you for years and im so happy that ur channel is growing a lot more :D
Thank you so much for this video! I can get so disheartened if my birds don't behave like the ones you see online sometimes. Despite the good care they get they don't ever accept my scritches. It's okay for them to have their own boundaries.
My grandma is someone that rescues birds she used to have a cockatoo that passed away recently but she still has a couple of Amazon green parrots, and a Hawaiian gray parrot and they can be very loud
Honestly when I got my cockatiel I expected him to hate me, not want to be near me but the same day I got him an hour or so later after he calmed down he didn't want to be away from people, he loves me, my mom and everyone else after 2-3 days he allowed me to scritch him and sometimes he doesn't want them and that's okay! Other times he'll beg for them such a lovely boy :)
i love love love cockatiels but i get stressed out by any kind of noise very easily. i guess i'll stick to watching videos for now. maybe if i build an aviary...
I have my bird in my room, and I am a very light sleeper. Luckily my bird is very chill and sleepy at night, but when he does get night frights, I can get there in a few steps because I wake up immediately. It's really nice knowing I can comfort him when he's scared like that, and even though I would sometimes like to sleep through my alarm, I'm happy I wake up so easily for night frights
At the end.. Cockatiels are just like any other pet who requires correct care!! Every single pet will have some things that some people can't deal with! That's okay! The only problem is people who don't research and just buy a bird or any pet expecting it to be the perfect pet. Then find out that the bird isn't the best fit for them :( Always do research!!! It's the best thing you could do for a pet! My pigeon is death staring at me for watching this and not cuddling him ;-;
I love this video. You speak so much sense here. It is obvious you both love and respect your birds. My own beloved but ancient cockatiel (24 years old and still young!) was an aviary raised bird but she does love scritches and is very cuddly and friendly. I think female cockatiels tend to be less demonstrative, but they certainly can bond with their keepers. I don't think they are harder to tame- they just don't show affection in the same way. Your female cockatiel behind you is obviously enjoying your company, she's just being quiet about it! It did take five weeks for her to really come to bond and trust me- and vice versa, since I knew she wanted to carve the meat from my bones when I first became her Human Slave! However, I believe this success in bonding with her is partly due to her personality, but also due to the fact I have kept birds since I was in single digits. It takes patience, empathy and a lot of reading to really get birdie psychology!
I’m going to be honest here, as much as I love cockatoos I would never have them entirely because of the screaming thing, same thing with other parrots and related birds. I have strangely sensitive ears and we do have other pets which might freak out if they heard such a loud noise constantly which is exactly why I keep doves instead. There’s nothing wrong with cockatiels, they are just doing what comes naturally to them but still, I know my limits and I hope other people understand the commitment they are getting invested in. Trust me, there’s a lot of birds I’d adore but I wouldn’t have for the same reason, it sucks but it’s life
It’s okay. Doves are beautiful birds. My mom loves them and pigeons. Many people own doves and pigeons here in my country. The owners often let them fly freely but the birds are gonna come back home anyway. So sometimes I see a dove or pigeon on my roof and I’ll know they belong to someone else.
Yep. Animals will take their own time with settling in. I got an 8 year old rescue cat 2 years ago. I feel he has onlt in the past few months he recently fully settled in and be comfortable and snuggling with me.
Oh my goddd the night fright thing, I've never heard of it and my cockatiel used to do it! I was so nervous because I didn't understand what was going on at all, it's great to know it's actually normal. And I definitely love the little sounds they make on the background of your videos, to me the flying around, singing and screaming give a very cozy and familiar feel to the video
I’m so in love with these birds. But after tons of research i came to the heartbreaking conclusion that they’re not a fit for me. So now i just follow all the bird pages on insta and watch videos on here to get my cockatiel fix
Every 'tiel has a different personality. My bird Moki is one of the few Aviary Raised birds that are social towards me and my family. However there is one thing that I warn for new owners, COCKATIELS ARE DUSTY also Aviary Raised birds typically aggressive towards people when first introduced. Also my bird was from a "low attention" household that treated her like a piece of furniture whilst now she is a loud and proud small cockatiel that loves scritches. Lastly THE POOP cockatiels poop all the time.
Thank you for this honest video! This is exactly what I needed to watch. I am thinking of getting another cockatiel after years of not owning one. I had several cockatiels growing up (along with many other birds... we had a large aviary at my parent's house). My first one was the BEST cockatiel I ever had (named him Cleo... we were told HE was a girl when he was a baby, but, well, he wasn't, lol). He was incredibly loving and looked very similar and acted very similar to your bird (he sang, talked, did heart wings, and loved scritches). Unfortunately, we got a friend for him (a male that was not nearly as friendly even though he was handfed) since I was away at school a lot and he completely lost interest in me. I had several other cockatiels after that and never found one as loving as Cleo. This was when I was a kid. I am in my thirties now and work from home (and rarely ever travel) and would love to find another cockatiel as a companion. They are very hard to find in my area, surprisingly (San Francisco bay area... it could just be the time of year since it's fall here now). I don't plan to rush this at all and want to find a very loving handfed, male bird (not interested in females... I have never had luck with them... they tend to be a lot shyer and nippy in my experience). How did you find Yuki and how long did it take you to find the right bird? This is not something I want to rush into at all and I've been doing a lot of research the past few months. I rushed into things with a few birds in the past and regretted it because they ended up not being very good pets. Yuki is such a sweetie. : ) Love your videos and keep up the great work!
Omg my cockatiel is named Yuki too! She's a female cockatiel, she was under 6 months old when she was handed to me and was aviary raised, I have her for around 2 month now and the first week I kept her in her cage and just sat with her as much as possible, began target training her inside the cage and giving her food on a bowl I was holding every day, target training btw has been my best way of getting close to my cockatiel, she began coming out of her cage on her own at the third week and I kept pushing through training with her at least 90 minutes (by this I mean just having her out and training with her whenever she was up for it) every day and spending as much time with and around her as I possibly could, I never let the preconceived notion of what she'd be able to do get to me, and I haven't so far experienced any night frights with her even though she's young and both covering the cage and a night light on (I enjoy sleeping with one too so it's fine by me) has helped me have no issues with that so far. Anyway fast forward to now and the help of my glasses that Yuki loves to nible on she is now stepping up on me, resting on my shoulder and my head, fully target trained, will recall if I put her down and we're training (I have to go get her myself outside of training) she does spins on command, flys over to me of her own free will just to hangout with me, LOVES scritches so much she'll literally rub her head on my fingers all on her own, learned to whistle a catcall thanks to my dad and is learning currently La Cucaracha also on her own free will. I had budgies before and had never once tried to train any of my previous birds on my own I'd say my biggest advice would be, don't listen to preconceived notions of what your bird may or may not be able to do but keep your expectations low so anything that comes feels like a victory, be patient and kind with your bird and respect their boundaries ALWAYS, get them a treat food that they'll only get when training,TARGEt train your birds, keep them fully flighted and teach them to fly safely instead in a bird proofed environment, spend at least 1h a day with your bird giving them your undivided attention, keep a bird separate from other birds until you bond with them to make the process easier, don't hold any bites against the bird they're not out to get you and most important of all to me truly trust you bird, if your bird feels you are not scared of them and that you trust them not to hurt you it will likely not hurt you. (Also other important advice is take your bird to the vet and get them checked out when you first get them just to make sure there are no issues lurking).
I have 4 parrots , 2 lovebirds and 2 conures (green cheek and black capped) Parrots are wonderful, but … the cute cuddly goofy side you see on the internet is not reality for a lot of bird owners. None of my birds are cuddly birds , they hate scritches and being pet. Only 1 I can , he is a tiny baby tho. So unsure how he will grow up. (Trying to socialize him a lot tho) but I can train them all and they are all doing recall or target training. Which is super fun way to bond with them. But birds are temperamental jerks , and puberty and hormones are awful to deal with. Conures and lovebirds tho are known to be bitey , screamy , chaotic jerks lol. Also the noise level is a lot .. but I honestly love the noise lol it sounds like home
I got my first cockatiel today. One of my budgies died last week and my remaining female budgie is alone. Really hope that the cockatiel and the budgie get along. Also - love that animal crossing background music!
Please do a video on Indian Ringnecks, my mother bought one because "they're so cute". While they are and I absolutely love my little guy (which I've stolen from her) they are a huge amount of work. They're loud, they're messy, and they have the mind of a 3 year old for the entirety of their lives which can be as long as 30-45 years. People need to be aware that the cute pet they see someone else have may not be correct for their current home and they bond so strongly with their people that I hate the idea of one being rehomed.
My parrotlet is a hand raised bird but it still took me 2 and a half months before she trusted me enough to climb on to my finger. Parrotlets can be very territorial and bitey so I always make sure that I give her enough personal space. Still, I get bitten all the time when she’s cranky and I approach her too quickly. People incline to think that since parrotlets are so tiny they must be cute and timid but seriously they’re naturally super fierce and can be hostile at times. Pet owners should always educate themselves before purchasing/owning the animals. Anyway, thank you for trying to educate others about this. All birds are different and people should always try to understand their nature before blaming them for their “bad behaviors”
yeah the scratching thing is so accurate my bird only lets me pet her when she’s in the mood and that’s rare with her i absolutely hate when people come over and she’s interested of corse because new person and i’ll take her out if she isn’t already to say hi (aka just chilling in the same room) and people will try and pet her no warning and she’ll bite them than the person gets mad it absolutely drives me crazy
Ahhh the night frieghts didnt realise this was a thing an my cockateils sometimes do this and look really alert i have an halogen heater which gives them light but still have their feathers on top of head stand really straight and sometime just flap on perch which i panic sometimes that that have they foot astuck or something always wondered why they do that, maybe leave tv in for them x
Hello! ^v^ I’ve been watching your videos for… maybe 5 or 6 days now. I just wanted to say, you’re amazing at what you do! Thank you for using the platform for good. There is so much misinformation on the internet, it’s sad. People like you, Ann Reardon, etc. make a difference. ❤️
I haven’t even started the video but I just wanna say this XD my sister has owned a cockatiel since 2018. He is a male bird and his name is Trico. 2020 he became a real annoyance to her with his poops and CONSTANT loud screaming. Now me and my mom take care of him so she can relax. Yeah, do y’all’s research before you decide on getting one. Cuz my sister didn’t do hers heh
I had a hand-raised lovebird when i was a teenager - i raised her myself from 5 weeks old but when she hit the 'hormonal age' she started getting real nasty and i didnt have enough time with school to help her work thru it. it got to the point where i was afraid to take her out of the cage. (i still let her out but not as often as she needed) i ended up rehoming her for her own best interest to a friend of my moms who owned an aviary inside a flowershop. It was a long time ago but i think about her sometimes and hope she was much happier in the aviary with other birds and where she didnt have to worry about humans trying to be all up in her business unless she wanted them to. (avairy was in a flower shop so she could potentially flock down to workers or customers if she WANTED attention but it was her choice) I have 2 other lovies now that im an adult and have more time on my hands and i love them and am patient to give them time and space to bond with me but it makes me sad sometimes when i think back to my childhood bird and wish i could have done more for her personally after being the one to raise her by hand as a baby it was hard giving her up even if it was for the better. we got updates from moms friend for the first few years though and she seemed to be happy where she was- even started laying eggs herself.
I have a bird myself, and sometimes he will bite me and laugh after he does it, and my dad got hurt then my bird starts laughing so hard, my dad hates him so bad now, he hated him from the start..
There’s a chance that I’m allergic to birds, but I fell in love with them anyway and researched them with many articles and videos, and by watching you! But I’m trying to get to an allergist as soon as possible, and if I’m allergic, I’m not sure a cockatiel is the best option with all the allergens they carry. Is there any chance I could still get a bird if I take care of the allergens well enough? I don’t want to get a bird to not be able to play with it because of my allergies. Also, I don’t think I could handle the bigger birds, even though I do love watching them. I just really want a feathered friend, and I don’t want to give up on them because of my messed up allergies.
As someone with a ton of allergies, it really just depends on the severity of the allergy. Allergy meds help a ton for me personally. I had a cat at one point that I was allergic to and I was taking allergy meds everyday, Had no problem with her after that
I had a dog even though I was allergic, it got better over time and was worth it, if you get a bird go for handraised from a good breeder, an aviary bird has a good chance of never liking you
My cockatiel was super cuddly even on the first day i had him (i hand feeded him since he was like 2 months) he would look for my hand for scritches even if he basically didnt know me, and he still let people scritch him even if he doesn't know them,i also have a lovebird who was hand feeded (not by me tho) but he just hates hands, i bought him in a shop so i am not sure about his story...he still loves to get out of the cage and just come on my shoulder and stay around me, i can't touch him but i love him so much, you have to respect their limits❤ birds can show love in many ways ❤
Great advise as usual. This advise is also applicable to all the other different kinds of pet parakeet and most other birds. I cringe when I see people with poor terrified new pet birds which have been wing clipped and the owners are 'force taming' them. Basically they are torturing the scared bird till its exhausted and gives in to what they want. That is no way to treat an animal. Your way is the most rewarding for the owners too as they know their birds really like them and are not a frightened 'slave' to them.
How do you prevent yours from breeding? I have a baby tiel who just finished their first molt. I believe it’s a girl but not 100% yet. I want to get her a friend but I don’t want them to mate- but I love that the males are more talkative and heart wings etc. other than keeping in separate cages which I don’t want to do (I have a massive one for my baby) I’m not sure how to do that. Also the breeder I used didn’t dna test before buying so it would be a risk when I get a second on what they’d be. I lucked out with Figgy though, scritches day 1 and is a stage 5 clinger lol ❤
My cockatiel is a young female (she's like half year i think? But yes in pet shop it was said she's young and she also has pink beak and legs) We got her few weeks ago and she doesn't mind getting on my hand, etc. She also sometimes gets on my head for some reason. Oh and she's quiet and usually screams at morning on weekends (she just screams, i talk with her, go out of the room, she again screams, i go back and talk). She also doesnt mind scritches but often preens after them or just moves head a lot and i cant really scritch her Sometimes i feel like she is offended or smth like that and i feel sad and guilty. Also a question, is it fine if her cage isnt very big, but we let her fly around the room? Also its not the real problem but the fact she can fly around only one room (we have dogs and cats, also we have a big mirror in the hallway) And also another question, what is a chain pet store? I googled it but didnt really understand
I have two budgies they're both rescues one I rescued from my aunt she just let them kill each other and the other one I rescued from a breeder and it's good to know other people rescue
my 2 lovebirds (male female pair) just had 2 babies . neither of the parents like scritches and im okay and respect that (the male lets me rub his beak and head a little bit when i handfeed him treats- the female i wouldnt dare even try im barely able to handfeed her the treat without her biting my finger off lol, she does not like fingers) but i plan on handraising the babies once they get to 3 weeks and really getting them used to being handled and scritches with fingers so hopefully ill have at least one or 2 birds i can give scrtichies to. (not sure if im keeping both babies yet-- i want to but we'll see how it goes and if the parents are okay with them staying sometimes parents try to 'kick the babies out of the nest' so we'll see. i might have to just get a 2nd cage but i dont have a lot of space in my apartment either so... blah i plan on keeping them tho if all goes well. i dont trust anyone else to take care of my babies and give them nice big flight cages etc. too many people keep lovebirds in tiny cages because they are small birds, but lovebirds are very active, love to fly and need just as much space as a larger parrot.
So, my cockatiel was abused by my grandmother (locked in a closet for 15 years) and my mother threatened to call ASPCA on her if she didn't give us the bird, so she did, and my cockatiel Nick always bites and snaps/hisses at anyone when they even LOOK in his direction, and he spreads his wings wide and ducks down and starts to flap violently too, Also screeching. I guess I can understand why he would act that way, but can someone tell me exactly what it means?
so far in my life time i’ve had three cockateils the first one we loved so much he was like the nicest boy ever but unfortunately he died after he flew away and got killed by a crow.the second bird was just not very nice but we thought the bird was a male but soon we found out it was a female and when we gave them away to our friend it fell in love with this teenaged guy.soon after she lauded eggs- we where very surprised about that.the third bird we still have and he’s fallen in love with me and i agree there is poop EVRYWHERE! (this was a male)
Damn that's crazy how you're just getting to summer when it's almost winter here in america -I know it's prerecorded from that time in case anyone doesn't get the joke
Hey, I have a problem and I’m hoping either Soda Pets or someone in the comments can help. My cockatiel seizures whenever his nails are clipped. I don’t want to stress him out but his nails are long and for his health, they need to be trimmed. I’m not sure what to do. Any help would be great
i have a pigeon and a sparrow and i agree with sooo much you said ESPECIALLY KEEPING WET WIPES NEARBY LOL i have packs and packs of baby wipes at the ready hahaha
A few days ago we rescued a bird who broke its wing and took it inside a cage and fed it varieties of food and water. We also covered the cage with a blanket to feel safe but unfortunately after 3 days it died. Can u tell me what to do next time if I find a injured bird. Also vets is not an option as the vets in our area doesn’t take care of birds
Mines 12 weeks old, was hand fed, but they weren't tamed. They aren't happy with me, they don't like being picked up, held or getting headpats/scritches. I'm pretty disappointed because I wanted a bird to be super cuddly ): he just screams and bites me all the time and I'm trying to work with him so came here, not sure what should I do. Edit: He'll sit on my shoulder then freak out when I have to move him off. Should I get another one for them to bond with?
One of my friends wants to get two birds. The problem is that she abuses her dog. She even hits my dog. They are not fit to own them. What should I do?
Birds are literal crap machines. Tarantulas make very little to no poop, compared to birds, rabbits too, rabbits poop constantly and thier pee REEKS! Doesn’t matter if they are fixed or not. Rabbits are a high maintenance pet.
As soon as my boy heard pretty boy he started singing and yelling it i do agree with many of your points my boy doesnt like to be touched ,very rarely will step on my hand on rare occasions he will fly over to watch me from semi far but i wish more people understood that you sometimes can try tame them and they may still have a personality of love you from a far not like yuki wanting to be on you constantly Edit: my boy likes biting my hair but if i try touch him he will bite me and run away
Gotta add that they seem to constantly break feathers, my boi doesn't have a full tail because he is running around in his (awesome) cage and probably brushing it against stuff and bending it, doesn't matter too much because he can still "fly" pretty well but is a bit of a stubby butt, though he is clipped though I requested him not clipped to late from the breeder and he already had been clipped, it's ok though, he just has stubby short feathers I guess
i bought a love bird of some one and they had a DOG and CHILDREN and they used to throw things at the cage her names mango and she has a flight cage and as soon as we got her she woud climb on all of us but she loves my dad she loved to be stroked by him and she gose done peoples tops to snuggle
Another great video that's both entertaining, interesting, and informative! I love watching your cockatiels, but due to sensory issues if I did ever have birds I think I'd go with doves based on noise levels. Instead I can enjoy watching your lovely flock =)
yeah i like to have the bad sides so i can like watch out the bad about the bird it like nugget she an avairy cockatiel she will sit on ur shoulder but other than that he will bite- unlike rosy my other female very social and sweet. so i have like a good side cockatiel and the bad side xd- yey so it takes a long time to tame i agree :>
my dad has an aviary, but he spends time with our idk 28, 29 cockatiels? yk he'll go out there and spend time with them and my bird Nubby came from the aviary and i spent time with her every day and she ended up letting me hold her. i had a similar bond with another bird but sadly he passed away a few weeks ago :(
Hey I love your videos. I bought a cockatiel today and noticed after bringing it home that the feathers stayed fluffed. It had dry crust or snot in it's nose. I washed him and he's sleeping now but his feathers stay fluffed. He also looks over weight and only 6 months old. He's been sleep since 4 and non active. Could it be due to the store owner clipping it's wings or bad health. Also another cockatiel in the cage had a bald head. I don't have money for a the vet right now and don't want to believe he's sick. Any home remedies or advice you can give me?
i have done a lot of research and everything like that but the only place I can get a cockatiel or really any bird is at a pet store should i still get a cockatiel?
I wish my cockatiel was just clipped. My first bird, a parrotlet, came clipped and I helped her learn to fly as her feathers grow out. I wanted to do that with my cockatiel, and one of his wings just never grew out. He must have been pinioned as a hatchling. :( Both my birds are rescues from a shelter, so I don't even know how old he is, but I'm honestly appalled that pinioning one wing is even legal. Pinioning both is cruel but just one throws them off balance for life. It's not even effective, he has learned how to fly short distances to locations he likes, but he can't fly downward and used to crash a lot.
neither of my lovebirds like scritches. im KIND of able to rub on my male a little bit he lets me rub his beak and the top of his head while i feed him treats but as soon as hes done he dodges away. my female i dont even try because she will bite me if i even put my fingers anywhere near her head lol. they are good birds and lots of fun and like to be on my shoulder and stuff but dont like being touched and are hand-shy. oh and both my birds like to be on my shoulders NOW but it took me a full year to get my male lovebird to convince him to fly over to me . he only started coming to me after i got my female and she was a little more outgoing when i got her so she always wanted to fly over and get on me and explore my clothes and climb in my pockets, etc. my boy initially started coming over to me finally because he didnt want to be away from his girlfriend but now he'll come to me on his own too. these birds can live for a really long time too though if all goes well so i always say we are a forever home and we have plenty of time to bond
Question relates to Ren laying eggs,.. Are cockatiel eggs edible? If you wanted to, could you eat her eggs? Or are they inedible? Not that I expect you to eat her eggs, but I do wonder if they can be eaten.
Yeah! Actually I have cooked one up before and fed it back to my cockatiels (because egg is super good for them and high in nutrients) my dad tried some of the egg and said it tasted like chicken eggs! I didn't mention it in the video because alot of people think its weird and inhumane to cook their eggs, even though it's the same as chicken eggs and would just be thrown in the bin otherwise!
@@sodapets that’s fascinating! I don’t see anything weird or “inhumane” about eating the eggs of a cockatiel unless you’re forcing it to lay eggs and it gets sick/malnourished due to making too many eggs. Really, they just make them on their own and they’d just be thrown away so really there’s no harm in eating them.
I mean, eggs are eggs. Unless the eggs of a certain bird species are poisonous or the eggs are fertilized, there really is no harm in eating the eggs. You’d have just thrown them out anyway so eating them makes more sense.
My sisters bonded almost immediately
It's good to know that every pet has bad sides, and everyone tells the good sides :)
my cockatiel(female) and my terrapin(male) were best friends lol. she loved riding on his shell and he used to wait outside her cage and wait for her to climb on.
Now thats cute
just what i would expect from kannas pets
@Chip sadly my cocktail died from cancer and 6 yrs later my terrapin(whose name was Chip) died at the vets office. the vet had a relatively busy morning that day so he told us all to leave our pets with the receptionist and to come n get them later in the evening. after a few hours we received a call that someone's cat attacked and k¡lled him. so... :(
@@poosaay i’m so sorry about that
Aww! What happened?
That picture of a bird on the thumbnail was awsome
Their bad sides make me love them more
Even through the bads, I'm glad to know that you still treat all of your pets with the care they need.
My little sister got a cockateil, she really wanted one... she said she will be really responsible! when she got him (he was a baby and never had a human owner before!) she didnt want to clean his cage or bathe him or clean any of the seeds on the floor :(
she wanted to get rid for him for "being untamed and mean."
my parents agreed to get him back to the pet store not on my watch!!
and i begged them to keep him as my parrot and they finally agreed for a last chance
now lemon is my best friend!!i always take care of him my sister wanted him after i tamed him, i told her no but she can still play with him
if you ever get any pet just be patient with it and trust me it will get used to you :)
i really dont blame my sister sine she was young
My bird is a mix. Sometimes he lets me pet him, and rarely goes on my finger (VERY rarely), and usually flies off after getting on. Only on specific spots in my house does he let me pet him. It's odd.
Yes it takes a while to bond with a cockatiel but after owning 2 of them it is definetly a bond worth building
every pet has a "good" side and a "bad" side and people SHOULDNT adopt pets if they can bare with their "bad" side. PETS ARENT TOYS
Preach
The day after I got my white-faced cockatiel, he let me pet him and then after a few hours of just sitting by his cage and letting him just kinda sit there (he was pretty nervous at first) he let me take him out of the cage :) i love my little boy ❤️❤️
I had conures, cockatiels, and a cockatoo they all made the most noise morning and evening. I heard it's their natural talking time.
my lovebirds are the same way. they are actually fairly quiet most of the time but get a bit talkative in the morning, then in the midafternoon for a little bit and their loudest hour id say id say is anywhere from 5-7 oclock they get super chirpy and screechy. thanksgiving the other night we were in the other room having our dinner and they were making a racket i was like what is going on over there lol. they were just eating and playing. my lovebirds actually just had 2 babies that are a week old about but they are still in the nest so my female lovie stays in the nest most of the day now but she comes out in the evening to eat... figure the parents must be celebrating a few moments of peace away from the babies while having dinner and playing before they have to go back to the nest to feed the chicks.
"Be prepared to never have a clean floor again." My floor is never clean anyway lol
I have a rescue senior cockatiel, finally after a little over a year of having him he FINALLY STEPPED UP! He just began to open up and it’s so worth it, I also have another male cockatiel and a female green cheek :)
Only my young cockatiel likes scratches, my other two birds don’t lol
My cockatiels were super tame when I got them. I kinda expected them to need some time to adjust to their new home and to me, but instead they climbed on my shoulders as soon as I got home with them. It was the sweetest :) We hang out together everyday single day now and they are the best pets ever.
The cockatiels basically:
Yuki - Calm
Rin - No energy
Tofu - Too much energy
Yuki also loves to scream the intro and pretty boy
the fact that ur new videos r starting to get as much views and attention as ur old videos genuinely makes me so happy :) ive been watching you for years and im so happy that ur channel is growing a lot more :D
Hawaiian Grey? Don’t think there’s such a thing. Do you mean African Grey?
Honestly when I got my cockatiel I expected him to hate me, not want to be near me but the same day I got him an hour or so later after he calmed down he didn't want to be away from people, he loves me, my mom and everyone else after 2-3 days he allowed me to scritch him and sometimes he doesn't want them and that's okay! Other times he'll beg for them such a lovely boy :)
im getting a cockotiel today after just over 5months of saving and preparation :D
i love love love cockatiels but i get stressed out by any kind of noise very easily. i guess i'll stick to watching videos for now. maybe if i build an aviary...
At the end..
Cockatiels are just like any other pet who requires correct care!!
Every single pet will have some things that some people can't deal with! That's okay! The only problem is people who don't research and just buy a bird or any pet expecting it to be the perfect pet. Then find out that the bird isn't the best fit for them :( Always do research!!! It's the best thing you could do for a pet! My pigeon is death staring at me for watching this and not cuddling him ;-;
I'm thinking about adopting a cockatiel myself, this video is super useful! Thank you so much!
Oh my gosh thank you for the heart ;_;
@@gratedparmesan_ did u get the cockatiel
I love cockatiels I actually adopted my first one 3 months ago named him Zazu such a sweet boy and he is starting to get along with my parakeets 🤗❤️
Trust me, there’s a lot of birds I’d adore but I wouldn’t have for the same reason, it sucks but it’s life
Cockatiels: *SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE*
It’s okay. Doves are beautiful birds. My mom loves them and pigeons. Many people own doves and pigeons here in my country. The owners often let them fly freely but the birds are gonna come back home anyway. So sometimes I see a dove or pigeon on my roof and I’ll know they belong to someone else.
I have a lovey 🕊
Yep. Animals will take their own time with settling in. I got an 8 year old rescue cat 2 years ago. I feel he has onlt in the past few months he recently fully settled in and be comfortable and snuggling with me.
When I got my first cockatiel he was such a softie
Oh my goddd the night fright thing, I've never heard of it and my cockatiel used to do it! I was so nervous because I didn't understand what was going on at all, it's great to know it's actually normal. And I definitely love the little sounds they make on the background of your videos, to me the flying around, singing and screaming give a very cozy and familiar feel to the video
I’m so in love with these birds. But after tons of research i came to the heartbreaking conclusion that they’re not a fit for me. So now i just follow all the bird pages on insta and watch videos on here to get my cockatiel fix
They take a lot of work. But honestly working hard at training is very worth it and needed.
I have 4 parrots , 2 lovebirds and 2 conures (green cheek and black capped)
Parrots are wonderful, but … the cute cuddly goofy side you see on the internet is not reality for a lot of bird owners.
I miss My conure he was insanely tame, when I was younger I climbed trees with him! Without a lead or clipped wings
For some reason I imagine when the cockatiels are screaming at themselves in videos they’re screaming “MoM LooK We’RE oN TV” 😂
I had a cat at one point that I was allergic to and I was taking allergy meds everyday, Had no problem with her after that
I had a dog even though I was allergic, it got better over time and was worth it, if you get a bird go for handraised from a good breeder, an aviary bird has a good chance of never liking you
Hey just wanted to say your one of the most great down to earth person i love your channel keep doing what your doing
I really love there videos they make me so happy.
"lemme tell you about the bad side of owning cockatiels... ... but on the other hand, you have cockatiels." xD
My family ALWAYS ask HOW do u deal with all mess LOL. I clean at night when they go back in their cage .
Another encouragement that a cockatiel is the best choice for me
How do you prevent yours from breeding? I have a baby tiel who just finished their first molt. I believe it’s a girl but not 100% yet. I want to get her a friend but I don’t want them to mate- but I love that the males are more talkative and heart wings etc. other than keeping in separate cages which I don’t want to do (I have a massive one for my baby) I’m not sure how to do that. Also the breeder I used didn’t dna test before buying so it would be a risk when I get a second on what they’d be. I lucked out with Figgy though, scritches day 1 and is a stage 5 clinger lol ❤
As long as you don’t have a nesting box or anything that resembles a nest you should be fine
My friend has a cockatiel, and omg he's the loudest. Me and her will be on call, and he will just be so loud that I can't even hear her.
My cockatiel is a young female (she's like half year i think? But yes in pet shop it was said she's young and she also has pink beak and legs)
We got her few weeks ago and she doesn't mind getting on my hand, etc. She also sometimes gets on my head for some reason. Oh and she's quiet and usually screams at morning on weekends (she just screams, i talk with her, go out of the room, she again screams, i go back and talk). She also doesnt mind scritches but often preens after them or just moves head a lot and i cant really scritch her
Sometimes i feel like she is offended or smth like that and i feel sad and guilty.
Also a question, is it fine if her cage isnt very big, but we let her fly around the room? Also its not the real problem but the fact she can fly around only one room (we have dogs and cats, also we have a big mirror in the hallway)
And also another question, what is a chain pet store? I googled it but didnt really understand
Your videos are really comforting to me. Something about it just like calms me down, idk but it’s nice :)
Love how there are edit birds that look mean and then there’s yuki on her shoulder like - 🙂✌️
Wdym by edit and their not mean
I think they mean how people record edits of birds being mean. And Soda's cockatiel is happy and calm.
I have 0 idea what tf I meant, it was 03:48am, I woke up, watched the video and went back to sleep
Damn that's crazy how you're just getting to summer when it's almost winter here in america
-I know it's prerecorded from that time in case anyone doesn't get the joke
Do you mean prerecorded from a couple of months ago? Because it is actually spring in New Zealand rn
Not prerecorded lol, I filmed this video the day I uploaded it. Crazy that people don't know what the southern hemisphere is 😳

Hey, I have a problem and I’m hoping either Soda Pets or someone in the comments can help. My cockatiel seizures whenever his nails are clipped. I don’t want to stress him out but his nails are long and for his health, they need to be trimmed. I’m not sure what to do. Any help would be great
I’m so glad that I get to watch your videos! I also have a question, do you think bearded dragons are best being pets or in the wild?
Thank you for this
i have a pigeon and a sparrow and i agree with sooo much you said ESPECIALLY KEEPING WET WIPES NEARBY LOL i have packs and packs of baby wipes at the ready hahaha
Buy a reptile warmer and bird vitamins to keep their energy up
Mines 12 weeks old, was hand fed, but they weren't tamed.
Try to gain their trust
My cat goes crazy every time I watch any of your videos
Yess the queen is back
Your videos are amazing keep going!☺️
One of my friends wants to get two birds. The problem is that she abuses her dog. She even hits my dog. They are not fit to own them. What should I do?
uhhhhh report that abuse?????? that dog deserves a good loving family.
@@alternativecig870 I am thinking about reporting them. I feel bad for that dog.
I got my first cockatiel yesterday. I didn't expected it to bit me that hard
Also keep doing this - I love your videos
I got budgies almost two years ago, and I had never seen my floor clean ever again they are really messy birds
i always have to use headphones to watch your Videos bc my birds go crazy when they hear yours in the background xD
The worst part about their bad sides is their poop…
Birds are literal crap machines. Tarantulas make very little to no poop, compared to birds, rabbits too, rabbits poop constantly and thier pee REEKS! Doesn’t matter if they are fixed or not. Rabbits are a high maintenance pet.
Thx for the vid it came at the right time!
The goodness of pets out weigh the cons
As soon as my boy heard pretty boy he started singing and yelling it i do agree with many of your points my boy doesnt like to be touched ,very rarely will step on my hand on rare occasions he will fly over to watch me from semi far but i wish more people understood that you sometimes can try tame them and they may still have a personality of love you from a far not like yuki wanting to be on you constantly
Edit: my boy likes biting my hair but if i try touch him he will bite me and run away
Wet wipes are life saviors
Gotta add that they seem to constantly break feathers, my boi doesn't have a full tail because he is running around in his (awesome) cage and probably brushing it against stuff and bending it, doesn't matter too much because he can still "fly" pretty well but is a bit of a stubby butt, though he is clipped though I requested him not clipped to late from the breeder and he already had been clipped, it's ok though, he just has stubby short feathers I guess
Mine is the same way! I think it's more common with babies because they don't realize where they are putting their tail 😂
I don't care if there is a bad side I love them.
i bought a love bird of some one and they had a DOG and CHILDREN and they used to throw things at the cage her names mango and she has a flight cage and as soon as we got her she woud climb on all of us but she loves my dad she loved to be stroked by him and she gose done peoples tops to snuggle
Another great video that's both entertaining, interesting, and informative! I love watching your cockatiels, but due to sensory issues if I did ever have birds I think I'd go with doves based on noise levels. Instead I can enjoy watching your lovely flock =)
yeah i like to have the bad sides so i can like watch out the bad about the bird it like nugget she an avairy cockatiel she will sit on ur shoulder but other than that he will bite- unlike rosy my other female very social and sweet. so i have like a good side cockatiel and the bad side xd- yey so it takes a long time to tame i agree :>
my dad has an aviary, but he spends time with our idk 28, 29 cockatiels? yk he'll go out there and spend time with them and my bird Nubby came from the aviary and i spent time with her every day and she ended up letting me hold her. i had a similar bond with another bird but sadly he passed away a few weeks ago :(
my cockatiel would first let me scratch her after almost 4 years and then died the day after (yesterday)
love from 🇱🇹🇱🇹🇱🇹 Lithuania
There almost like us humans. They have feelings & emotions too.
Any tips to get a un tamed cockatiel to trust u? My cockatiel (Zazu) is warmed up to the place but is still scared of me
i have done a lot of research and everything like that but the only place I can get a cockatiel or really any bird is at a pet store should i still get a cockatiel?
I wish my cockatiel was just clipped. My first bird, a parrotlet, came clipped and I helped her learn to fly as her feathers grow out. I wanted to do that with my cockatiel, and one of his wings just never grew out. He must have been pinioned as a hatchling. :(
Both my birds are rescues from a shelter, so I don't even know how old he is, but I'm honestly appalled that pinioning one wing is even legal.
My grandma owned one it was old and losing his feathers and it died this year by her cat
