Oh my soul, I had no idea you were South African until I saw the R56.00 price tag on the white pen 😂. I often watch your videos! They are super satisfying!! Thanx for your hard work!!
Very interesting. I do own a Dietz lamp, it's a No. 76, much smaller but with all the exact same characteristics. If one day I need to restore it, this video will surely be a guide.
Interesting, just picked up 2 from my grandfather's house,in good shape with some patina, original globes and wicks, cleaned them up but decided to keep them original. One is a BLIZZARD the other is a MONARCH.
Just bought one off ebay! Half the price of a similar Etsy listing 🤯 (the Etsy listing did look better though, it had more of a patina look than straight rust) Definitely gonna be referencing this video when it comes time to clean and repaint it 😊
@@AJRestoration Thanks :D It's actually in fairly good shape (the pictures did it a dis-service) a touch of light sanding with 80 grit sandpaper and some soap and water took care of the majority of the issues, though I may swap out the wick mechanism for a freshly made one eventually But for this winter it will definitely work as is :)
Nice restore! I just done one similar to this, a Japanese made lantern. Bottom was rusted out that oil thing they wick is in was almost gone but I got it out. Then I replaced the bottom and I electrified it. I did a gold and black combo on it.
Nice lamp. Was watching the video and noticing how light the metal was, almost like tin. I'm given to wonder something? Have you ever had a restoration that required a delicate hand because the metal was in bad shape and you couldn't locate a replacement? You could repair but not replace.
Plan on using it for a long time with that long wick?? You did a fantastic job restoring it and it looks great 👋👋👋👋👋 Enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up
This one is quite old, but it looks like they do still make them. I recently got the same one but it has some attachment that enables you to use a candle instead of Kerosene. I might do a restoration video on it in a month or 2.
@@AJRestoration Would love to see that video on the second lamp :) (I scrolled through your page but didn't see it so forgive me if you already posted it and I'm just blind 😂)
Exactly, it is absolute nonsense to use powder coating on hot parts if they are protected by plating in the original design. A heat-resistant metal powder-based paint belongs on these places, otherwise the moment the lamp is used the paint will immediately start to blacken up to burning, moreover, I prefer not to talk about the smell.

I'm actually restoring a Dietz Junior lantern, it has a bunch of patent dates and I haven't found the actual date it was made, the lantern also has Hindi translations on it, one saying American the other seems to say Dietz Junior but Google translater ain't helping me out
Great restoration make it new wow thanks for sharing your experience i have same video but its grow rate so down.i restore this type of lamp.its views are not growing.i try my best.i think I have some mistakes in my video.i see all your videos thats are so awesome and helpful.
The lantern isn’t all that old, the rust is only superficial, the zinc still has some shine to it the burner looks like it was buried in dirt because that’s not rust and the wick is brand spanking new and look like it’s ever touched fuel. Also the bottom of the fuel cap is brand spanking new. It would be shiny but not that shiny. I can’t help but think you bought it put it outside for a little and then threw some dirt on it. Great disassembly though and I like the red paint.
@@rossparker4374 I would never fake a video. I am not one of those faker restoration videos. I bought this from the scrapyard to add to my collection. It is not that old since the Dietz logo is painted on by factory and not embossed in the glass. These lanterns are sill made today. How you saw it is exactly how I found it at the scrap yard. Something does not have to be full of rust and borderline busted to be restored.
I am having one hell of a time getting out the top piece that contains the large spring. It moves freely up and down and rotationally but no go. Have any suggestions for me ? I'm no Superman but I'm not that weak !! LOL Also, do you know what the age is of this Junior #20 and how can it be determined ? Thanks for any help. Kenny C Oregon

Hard, arduous work but the effect is excellent. ongratulation from Vietnam 🥰😘👍
Nice refurbishing project. Let us know how the powder coat holds up to the heat. I am interested if it does hold up... Thumbs Up!

I still want a Blizzard one. Quite rare where I am.
I have that model that I bought in the mis 1970s and it is in great shape with no rust. The pain is slightly discolored from use.

The old timer way of cleaning glass globes is with newspaper wad up s section get it soaked w/ soapy water and scrub.. It doesn't scratch the glass.
Very good restoration 👍👍👍Thanks for sharing. Be safe🇨🇦
Looked better with the original galvanized finish.
cool
ficou maravilhoso

Looks like a very old coal mining lamp early 50'-70's
They still make these lamps, you can buy them brand new.

Great job, I love old paraffin lamps. Was the powder coat heat resistant ? , I know the tops get quite hot 👍

You either need to lubricate your turntable or feed the hamster who drives it…
