Seeing them perform live gave me an almost religious experience that I never got from any church or religion. I definitely think of my ex when I hear this song. We had a very toxic relationship and we’ve both moved on, but I don’t ever wanna forget her or vice versa. Going through what we did was necessary for us to grow and find the happiness we both have.
Now my journey I’ve just started a few months ago is getting hard. From finding out how my family trauma has shaped who I am all the way to now figuring out how I abuse myself in my own head and trying to find out how to not hate myself anymore. My girlfriend of almost nine years just recently told me she feels ready to marry me because of the healing I have been doing, however I still don’t feel worthy of it and I don’t see a scenario where I don’t mess it up. I still have a long way to go, and thank you for giving me a safe place to share the things I’m still not comfortable with saying out loud

This band saved my life. More accurately, the lead singer Justin, and a conversation I had with him.
I was in a really dark place, and a lot of their older music is quite dark. I resonated with it. It helped me through tough times, but music only goes so far. I was planning on ending things when I could muster up the courage. I was about 17. Serendipitously, my friend who worked at a radio station said they were coming in for an interview and were going to do a small private show for the people at the station, and they could bring one friend.
My friend knew I was obsessed with them, so she brought me, and it was the most amazing intimate 'concert' for about 25 people. The drummer literally was drumming on chairs (and rocked it out!) instead of a drum kit.
Afterwards, he signed autographs and chatted with people. I met him and as inappropriate as this is, I hugged him. I didn't ask I just hugged him and started crying a little. He pulled me off to the side and talked to me for what must have been literally 10-20 minutes. I didn't have to tell him what was going on, he knew, and the actual content of what he told me I wish I could remember.
I was too busy feeling the entire weight of the world lift off my shoulders, being told everything was going to be okay from the one person I KNEW understood my pain. If he said it could get better, then it could.
I listened to him. I am alive today. Blue October is beyond 'my favorite band'. I think Justin Furstenfeld taking that 10-20 minutes with me *saved my life*. He's my hero.

Blue October is a wonderful band, and Justin's lyrics have seen a remarkable journey over the years. His mental health and his relationships with family and former family are a driving factor of many of their songs, especially the singles. Seeing him get to a better place through his lyrics has been a joy over the years.

I love the Blue October song Hate Me. ! I can relate with it so much from my past. Having once been a addict while you're living that way you truly dont realize how much your actions hurt the people you love. You put them through so much that after a while you begin to think you're only worthy of their hate more than their love. But I am sure you will agree that Love is a powerful motivatation.

Thanks for doing this song, it definitely helped to remind me that no matter what pain lies behind from my divorce what I should be doing is trying to look forward. I will always hope for only the best for my ex wife and will regret the pain I caused her, but no amount of dwelling on those past mistakes will fix them or help her now in any way. Gotta try to keep going forward, still wishing her the best but not living in the regret.

Making excuses for the bad behaviour of your significant other is what I went through for too many years. You look at me being a muscular, heavily tattooed Man you'd think I'd be the arsehole but my ex was like a yapping dog that pushed my family away until I decided to break that bond of marriage and move out from the person who I once loved but ended up seeing as a self important, manipulative horrid individual.
