Saying "cats do not care about their owners" due to their behaviors is like saying "introverts do not care about having friends" due to _our_ relatively asocial behaviors.

they can, if they get complete food that's packaged by some brands. cats with a lot of allergies don't have a choice but to eat that. however, you should not go ahead and just give them vegetables. there are a lot of things to look out for, for example taurin has to be there otherwise they will die.

I would totally agree with you giving cats a completely vegetarian or vegan diet or even gluten free is both downright cruel immoral harmful unnatural animal consciousness is different to human consciousness if as a human I chose not to eat meat as from tomorrow its my responsibility to find protein alternatives in fruit and vegetables both felines and canines are carnivores whether domestic or wild humans are omnivores it could be almost as dangerous feeding vegan foods to felines or canines as it was to feed meat to herbivores such as cattle or sheep etc any vegan or vegetarian who feeds cats or dogs only vegetarian foods are in my view hypocritical as they were the ones moaning about farming industries being greedy and feeding cattle meat products causing thousands of cows to be destroyed and incinerated while it maybe OK to sometimes give your pet cat or dag the occasional treat from the owners own dinner plate as long as in moderation and proper cat food is always given for cats and proper dog food is given to dogs in addition cats may occasionally eat grass this is if they feel unwell or have upset stomach the grass helps the bring up food either by vomiting it out or pooing it out grass probably to some extent works similar to kaolin for humans and absorbs toxins although not sure on science of how grass affects cats if eaten furthermore cats will chew or eat catnip treats but again this only a treat not their whole diet

It's true unfortunately that black cats are often not adopted from shelters as much as other colours. But one person who worked at a shelter put the black cat's name down as Jellybean. This raised a lot of interest and the cat was adopted the same day. After this the worker put down the name Jellybean for all the black cats and they got adopted as much as the others. What a clever idea.

So one day we visited my aunt's house and I wanted to get over my fear of her so I walked over to her and attempted to pet her. My hand immediately got attacked so I hated cat's for a while. That is until I went over my friends house and met her adorable kitten, midnight. She was the sweetest little love bug I stg and so I decided that not all cat's are mean as fuck.

#7 is partially true. While cats are solitary HUNTERS, they aren't solitary SOCIALLY. When left to their own devices, stray and feral cats naturally form "colonies", where there's safety in numbers. Also, queens will get help from others in raising their kittens. The problem with comparing cat and dog behavior isn't so much in the whole "pack versus solitary" debate, it's over their comparative roles in the ecosystem. Dogs are descended from wolves, an apex predator; cats are descended from wildcats, a non-apex predator. Dogs can afford to be over the top and obvious with their social cues; cats are more subtle, because excess barking and lots of bouncing and motion might draw the attention of a passing predator. For example, dogs show that they like someone by bouncing and wagging their tail and licking them and just generally acting hyper and excited when they see them; cats communicate the same thing by laying on them, turning their backs to them, or slow-blinking in their presence. All of those are signs of great trust, if not affection, in cats; but if you don't know what you're looking at, you might miss it.

Pixel Fox To take your analogy further... Domestic cats in large numbers actually form prides like lions. It's also been observed that the members of these prides act like their large orange counterparts. Females band together to protect the young from the males that want to kill them, etc.

I don't think anyone actually believes that cats have more than one life. I think the "nine lives" thing came from their ability to get out of situations that other animals can't. It comes from their agility and speed, not a sense that they actually get reincarnated.

I totaly agree, I was also surprised with the "black cats bring missfortune" and "cats don't always fall on their feel" like I guess there are people who believe in superstition, but I didn't feel like this video had the right title, not many people actually believe it and the "cats always fall on their feet" was also a stupid one because they actually should always land on their feet, it doesn't happen when the cat has a disorder or when a factor makes it inpossible for them to land on their feet (like falling too low to the ground or being hit by something in mid air) it's so logical I think it is stupid to place it in this video

Yes, they still shouldn’t be fed milk, but what you are saying is true. This can be detrimental for people who actually suffer an allergy because many brands will say “lactose free” but that simply means they have extracted the lactose from the milk, and the product still contains milk. This can really make someone get hurt if they have an issue to whey or casein.

Black cats do in fact bring bad luck.
    1. When you're walking down a dark path you can potentially trip over them and hurt both you and them
    2. (Hopefully this goes for ALL cats though), they bring bad luck to your wallet from spoiling them rotten :)
    3. You can get mugged for food at 3:00 A.M.
    4. _they steal your socks_
This is just based off of my encounters with Mr. Whiskers, a stray black kitty who was left behind when his family moved from the neighborhood. I've already got a furball of my own, otherwise I'd take him in. Right now I'm in the process of trying to get him to the no-kill shelter so he can get his shots and get cleaned up so he can find a new, better family who hopefully won't leave him.

With regular vet care, love, attention, diet, exercise, etc. your cats can live as long as mine did and are. Oliver was 20 when we helped him over the rainbow bridge after arthritis set in. Sylvester was 19 when we helped him cross over, too. Cancer is a cruel disease. Mr. Punkin and Sox are each 10 years old now and as frisky as kittens. ALL 4 are and were a joy to be around and have given us 20 years of unconditional love and a butt load of entertainment!!!

I have a black kitten. He is the sweetest thing and loves cuddles so much. I didn’t even realize how little black cats are adopted until the shelter workers almost cried when my husband and I wanted him. He’s only been with us a couple weeks but he’s just been the best boy! So glad we adopted him!

Black cats are the most affectionate creatures I've ever experienced. They are so beautiful and majestic. I have had the privilege of enjoying many years with black cats, and other colors, but my current black cat Whisper, is one of the most loving cats I've ever had. He loves me so much and I can't imagine my life without him. Cats rock!

I have a black cat, a tortoiseshell and a grey cat. Out of all 3, the black cat is the sweetest, gentlest most polite cat I've ever met. She never bites, greets us if she's in the front yard when we come home, and waits patiently for her food (she's more well-mannered than some people I know!). She even happily greets the other two cats when she comes in and even gives the dog face rubs and smooches. She's very affectionate and even quirky.
She's a beautiful little kitty and I love her so much. She's my precious little fur baby!

I have had a black cat before, with a ginger cat, both of them born in my apartment's basement and getting starved by thier mother. In fact thier whole bach was getting starved. I took them in and named them Sam(ginger cat) and Strider(black cat). We never knew exactly what gender Strider was because she (we think she is a she now since she looked pregnent right before we let them go) was always feral. Sam had his trust given to me, but Strider hated all humans. Once, though, I tried to pet her with a toy, she was angery and scared at first, but then she let it pet her. Pretty soon I was petting her without her knowledge. When she looked, she was shocked for a bit, but then licked my hand! After a few hours, she curled up next to me and slept next to me!!!! I gained her trust... then she woke up a bit later and it seemed like she forgot about that whole moment... oh well.

I rescued a shelter kitten years ago and later discovered she loved corn on the cob. I volunteer at the local shelter (please help and volunteer wherever you live). People frequently come in and look to adopt black cats. Play music for your cats. This is one of the best entertainment you can provide your cats whether they are alone or have roommates. It is definitely stimulating them. I even play it at the shelter where the cats there need socialization. They all love it.

Sadly I've heard so many people saying that cats are aloof, stand-offish and only interested in the food given to them. Having grown up with cats and shared my home with cats most of my adult life I can say that if you show love to a cat it will return that love with interest.
A good example was one of our cats - 'Pollux' (he had a brother called Castor) who would greet me at the door when I came home from work. He wanted to be picked up and cuddled, and he would purr his head off. He would follow me around and would lie on my chest, gazing into my face!

Thank god for someone speaking sense about cats!! I used to have 9 cats! 3 British Shorthair and six Burmese. Then Dec 13th 2016 my oldest Brit age 15 decided her time had come and wanted to join her twin who died age 9. Eight days later my 4 year old Burmese girl developed Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM) due to Taurine deficiency. When cat food was first made public there was no Taurine and cats died. humans need it too but we can make it from the various foods we eat and turn it into different peptide chains to make Taurine. Cats can't and like us they need it for myocardial (heart ) muscle. Her cardiologist recommended euthanasia, I couldn't agree, so we left it that we would make a decision later that day.
My little one fought hard to live and surprised everyone by coming home on 7 different types of medication. The cardiologist was sceptical as he thought even he couldn't cope giving a small cat this many tablets. She was the size of a 4 month kitten, always was a little one. I had worked as an anaesthetic nurse in a human operating theatre and used everything I ever learned to nurse her. I stayed up every night for 6 months feeding her hourly, brining the water bowl to her. she was so weak because of the enlarged heart and being on diuretics (water pills) to drain excess fluids from her body. I'd count her reparations in a human around 20 is normal, in a cat 20-40 is normal. I'd check her paws to see how her peripheral circulation was. Kept her by the radiator, it was winter in Scotland. She was fussy over what she ate. I found myself cooking her bacon at 4am, so desperate was I to make her eat. I'd make her baby porridge - cat milk plus human baby porridge oats dried and whisk them up so they frothed and microwaved them for around 20 seconds until warm, just as a babies bottle. I have adorable photo's of my little one with her porridge face!
At her 6month check with her cardiologist he was amazed, her heart muscle had repaired it's self about 98% he had only ever encountered one other cat in 15 years that had done the same! much to my amazement he hugged me and kissed my cheek saying the only reason she was still here was because of me???? I just did what any other owner would do ?
3 months later out of the blue all the glands in her neck became swollen. Her vets thought it was Lymphoma bur every test came back negative. They even took her popliteal gland (humans have the same) behind the knee, too dangerous to take from the neck - it's so vascular. Even it came back negative. She became unwell and sore when i picked her up (pain in chest area) she spent a weekend at the vets hospital, got her home for one night and she was back in with a desperation rate of 49 (remember I said 20-40 normal for cat) she had fluid in her lungs, there was talk of a chest drain to remove fluid, but the diuretics (water tablets) worked and she stayed there another two nights as she was to see her cardiologist later that week. On the day he called and said she looked good that was am, by 13.30 I got a call to say get here PDQ, her right heart has stopped working, kidneys shut down and other organs are following fast. When I got there he got my husband to hold her and he hugged me. She was struggling to breathe, but he said she calmed down a bit when i got there. She looked so ill, one of her pupils had delated and I held her when she got the injection to stop her suffering. I was told my voice was the last thing she heard and I told her how much I loved my best ever poppet.
I told him after that last time she was home she ate some litter, it's called PICA and he said the tumour that appeared out of nowhere must have entered her brain.
I should also say that all my other cat looked after her too, they washed and groomed her, kept her warm and if she was incontinent of urine when 1st home they washed her tail end too. They loved her as well. It's only been a few months and I miss her and weep for her often. My cats come and curl unto me when I cry. They are such amazing animals and for as ill as my best poppet was after her first few months on the Taurine she was her usual self, chasing the others , feisty, nipping at the heels of the youngest cat who was 3 years at the time. She just loved life.

Lin Joy, just reading your post brought many a tear, it also brought back memories of when one of my cats died due to cancer. You were told she was looking good just hours later, she had passed - I can't even begin to imagine how that felt. We tried chemotherapy in an attempt to save Marble, I had to get a taxi back from the vet with him after his first round. The driver asked why he'd been to the vet & when I told him he berated me all the way home about spending all that money on a cat when there women living in remote villages who can't afford to feed their families. Fair point maybe but I was too worried about Marble to argue back so I just pointed out that as far as I was concerned he was a member of my family & I was gonna do anything within my power to try to save him. I left that taxi without tipping the driver that day. Sadly, the cancer Marble had was too aggressive, the first two rounds of chemo seemed to be shrinking it but after that, it looked like the damn thing was feeding off it & getting bigger. I made sure he wasn't suffering, he spent his last few days in the back garden where he seemed happy, I held his food bowl in a position where he could eat lying on the grass if he wanted & bought special cat wipes to clean him which he seemed to enjoy. He lost his fight for life on the 5th August 7 years ago, he jumped up on my son's lap, meowed once & then he was gone. I'd just had 8 days off work with him, he died the day I went back. Somebody told me not long after, he had probably waited for me not to be there as he knew I'd be too upset. People who have never experienced being owned by a cat just don't realise the effects they have on your life. As I told that horrible taxi driver that day, don't have an animal unless you're willing to make it part of the family. For me, the pain of losing him was made worse to see the other two cats looking for him everywhere for the best part of a week - how do you explain to a cat that their little pal isn't coming back? Those two cats are still with me, I miss Marble a lot but I need to make the most of the time they have left with me. The more timid one of the two made my newly empty lap her own, which helped. You did your best to save your little furball, sadly it just wasn't meant to be. Cats leave pawprints on your heart.

Anita Mason Thank you for your kind words. I’m sorry that you’ve been through a similar experience.
There are some people who just don’t understand that a cat or any other pet is part of the family.
I tell people who question what I’ve done trying to save my little poppet ( that’s not her name, just a term of endearment I gave her) that to my husband and I that all our cats are just the same to us as though they were human children.
They then see in a different light (I hope) that as a child one would do anything to make them better again, even if it meant selling all our possessions. Money means nothing in comparison to the love received from our babies. All in all we spent around £8,000 for her care and not one single penny was grudged. As I mentioned I’d give every material possession I own just to have her in my arms for another 5 minutes. I’m sure you feel the same about your puss.
What I didn’t write at the time when I posted my comments that she also developed an eye problem ( it was unrelated to her enlarged heart).
it’s called a Corneal Sequestrum ( not quite the correct spelling) it’s the layer of skin under the Cornea that has died and grows out. It takes about 6 months. No one knows what causes it and only cats and horses get it. So apart from all her medication she had eye drops 4 times a day too.
I know exactly what you wrote about your pusses searching the house for the cat who had died. The day before she died we have two of our cats attending fat busters ( that’s what my husband calls it, just his version of Weight Watchers for cats) luckily for us our Vet Hospital allowed us once our two fat cats got weighed to spend time with our poppet in a quiet room where she was staying and got to spend an hour with her. To the two cats that were with us were delighted to see her they were grooming her rubbing their faces on her head, she was equally happy to see them.
I have reminders of her all around my home she totally loved chewing anything wooden in the house. I’m sure she thought herself a dog! I just miss her so much. There is a poem, I don’t know if you’ve heard of it. It’s called “The Rainbow Bridge” it’s sad but brings hope. Best wishes.

I had a phenomenal cat who lived outdoors and was in my life from 2 years old and passed away at 22. She was jet black and so happy, friendly and affectionate. She did dissapear for 2 days when I was 8, she had climbed up a very tall tree and didn't have the courage to descend. My father opened up his arms and coaxed her down. It didn't take her long to descend and then jump into his arms. She had complete trust in him as she was truly loved by our family.

My cat was not good with dogs* when we adopted him, but my dog is more if a cat and really loves cats, and can handle rough playing cats really well.
*kitty was returned to the shelter TWICE before we picked him up, the second time was because he "terrorized" their large dogs. I think the dogs just didn't know how/when to play with him and when to leave him alone, plus he's a very dominant personality, so our very submissive little dog was the perfect fit. They're friends now

Another thing to note about cats. While some characteristics are across the board for all cats, each cat is different as an individual. Their life experiences help define their behavior and habits. I adopted my cat Rory from a shelter. He has been so wonderful for me because he's more than just my pet, and I think he senses that. He's also my emotional support animal. Because of him, my anxiety issues, which I've had along with my Depression for many years, is basically not an issue anymore. I still get anxiety, but it's not debilitating like it was before. That's because Rory has been so comforting. He doesn't mind my hugs and kisses, and he loves to spoon/snuggle with me. Getting Rory was the best thing I ever did. His and my personalities match like a pair of socks.

He then had a sort of pecking order to playing with other colors if there were no red. Green, then blue, then gold, and then white.
Not bad luck at all. Sam was the greatest blessing I could ever have. He passed at 19 years and 9 months. I miss that boy every day! I love my current two, but Sam was just so special. He picked me out and owned me.

We adopted our cat Medb when she was 5 months old. She is a black cat and was listed as "shy". I went to her cube and she reacted to me as if she had been living with me for ages practically saying "Dad get me out of here!". Anyway we started her on what I refer to as a high protein neurological diet designed to encourage intelligence. Thus far she comes to her name, will beg for food when I tell her to say please, if I say brush she will present her sides and back for grooming, and when I say "birdie" she will get into position to chase a LASER dot. She follows me everywhere and watches me when I prepare dinner almost as if she needs the skills for when she is reincarnated as a human. ;-) She is so bright behind her eyes that one wonders if she is really more human than cat.

My black kitty is not as well trained but he seems to be legitimately trying to listen to me when I speak to him, while my other two sorta just have the "huh?" look all the time haha.

It's a survival trait. Cats and dogs depend on us for their existence and will do anything to ensure their survival. One of those efforts is the ability to communicate their needs to us. Most pet owners judge us as eccentric when we talk to our cats or dogs but what they don't realize is that both parties are learning each others "language". Dogs and cats are hamstrung when it comes to verbal communication since they don't have the same number of muscles in their mouths or their tongues to articulate words; although, our late cat Kerry did her best to call my wife by her name, Margaret when she wanted dinner. What most cat and dog lovers fail to realize is that most of their companions communications skills are through body language. Even your other two cats may surprise you with their non-verbal skills. Cats are a lot smarter than people give them credit for unfortunately they are consistently measured against their canine cousins who were bred for obedience. And to reiterate what I said in my first post part of the problem with encouraging intelligence in cats is the lack of a protein rich diet in their youth. A high protein diet leads to the formation of a highly convoluted cortex in cats (and dogs and other mammals) which leads to higher intelligence. Unfortunately, according to a Tufts study on longevity in mice, leads to a shorter life span.

I find it odd that cats can't see red or pink, because when I was a little girl we had this beautiful Long fured black cat and there was this Hot pink pillow, She would sit on Knowing she like good.

Perhaps their was a certain scent on it that comforted her and she rested there to keep herself calm. Like a familiar scent from when she was a kitten, the type of detergent/fabric softener/ dryer sheets u used, or maybe even someone used the pillow too and she liked their scent.

Also cats are very sensitive to where they sleep I read before they will clean off their favorite spots so perhaps it could also be the texture of the pillow.

I adopted a stray black cat that came to my house.. It was the sweetest cat and we all loved him, including our two dogs. Sadly, he was old and had many health problems. He passed away. I'm so glad I took him in though and wouldn't' change anything. It opened our home to adopt another cat.

I have a black cat too. His name is Jimmy. He has a little white spot on his collar, and two going down his belly. As a result, he always looks like he’s going to the opera.

If you look on a package of litter, usually there will be warnings of toxoplamosis. which pregnant women can possibly get if they come into direct contact with the feces of cats. Its not neccesarily a myth, because it is possible, but most indoor cats dont carry the disease anyways.

I have had several black cats during my lifetime and all of them were a blessing. I am currently owned by my 17 year old, black cat, Gizmo. I picked her out of her litter when she was only a few days old and she came to live with me at 8 weeks. She has been a wonderful companion and is in very good health. It is as silly to think of a cat being bad luck because pf its fur color as it would be to judge a person by their hair color.

Since no one else said it, i’m very very sorry for your loss. I got my first (technically my 2nd but it’s a long story) last year and he is a mix of black and white and he is my joy in life. he’s one of the only reasons i’m still going. he’s my everything and i know how it can be to deal with a cats (or any pets) death. i’m sorry but just know his souls lives on in heaven.

In my country, it's more traditionally believed that cats got 7 lives. And for you who said no one believe cats got multiple lives, some traditional people do. There's even a myth in my country to not let a cat get near a dead body, because some people said (or lied or told, who knows?) that when a cat gets near a dead body, the dead would be resurrected for a mere second before going dead again. Because the cat actually inadvertently gave one of its lives to the dead.
That myth sure is very interesting when you want to make a fantasy story...

Cats and dogs not getting along really just depends on upbringing, for example I have 2 cats a 18 year old male orange tabby and a 3 year old female black cat, I got a dog around 4 years ago, so the black cat has had exposure to the dog her whole life and isn’t afraid of her (apart from when she steals dog food) in comparison my orange tabby was 14 when we got my dog, for 2 to 3 years he would stay in the basement or upstairs (my dog doesn’t do steps), and while he’ll go on the first floor again now, my tabby won’t go with in 10 feet of my dog. It really just depends on upbringing.
