  • Memorial services and funeral of Soviet Leader Yuri Andropov. 1914 - 1984. Yuri Andropov lead the Soviet Union from 12 November 1982 until his death on 14 February 1984. Andropov's rule is known for his anti corruption campaign. During his short rule Andropov aggressively attacked corruption throughout the CPSU and government ministries. He also campaigned to improve labor discipline and boost morale among the average Soviet worker. In 1983 Andropov invited a young American girl, Samantha Smith to visit the Soviet Union after she wrote him a concerned letter about nuclear war. Samantha became a well known peace activist until a plane crash took her life in 1985. Debate remains about weather Andropov could have reformed the USSR in a way that didn't lead to its collapse.

@@slavenskazajednica7912 No. Fidel was a humanist leader. He didn't torture and murder his opponents. Stalin did. Stalin literally murdered loyal Leninists like Pavel Postyshev, Vlas Chubar, Stanislav Kosior and Robert Eikhe.
Khrushchev, Brezhnev and Andropov continued the Humanist-Leninist line. They expelled or imprisoned opponents of the Party, they didn't KILL them like Stalin did.
I would say that Stalin is one fanatical, terrorist extreme and Gorbachev is a weak, liberal extreme. Lenin is the middle-ground between both.

You can sense the unease and fear in both the public and the Communist officials here compared to Brezhnev's funeral. "Okay, NOW what do we do?" The man who was supposed to lead the generation transition was dead, and no successor was immediately ready. Even Chernenko seems to be dreading it ("Oh no...must I have to lead this?"). Andropov's untimely death was a catastrophe for the USSR and probably accelerated its demise.

Aside from responsibility, commitment, honesty, hardworking and loyalty to the political system which I’ve learned from my dear teacher Andropov, the other thing that I’ve learned from him is that “ you can express your own idea, analysis and suggestions in a logical framework about international political problems domestically or internationally to the political system but never forget the advisability of politics which is the political system and country.Political system is made by people and people is the country, so the political system is the country.
The country is like a ship on the ocean and also has a duty to pass all types of normal or abnormal waves successfully. In this ship no one can decide and act lonely except for the government which is the only character who has rights to control, steer and forward this ship during the pass of ocean. “
