I'm reading her book right now and found this video. When she describes the stories of her experience in law school, she reminds me of a person who would score a 5.0 on Angela Duckworth's Grit scale. I'm honestly really glad she shared her experiences as it gives me some context on my own experiences growing up. Bullies in middle school, not getting an job offer after an internship, and having difficult experiences with other people all show that truly the negative moments in our lives can be seen as a positive moment when we take such experiences as an opportunity for growth.
This would have been one of the best commencement speeches of all time if she would have left out about 8 minutes, especially the singing, and some of the personal stories. Her tough love, no self-pity, and "settle for more" stuff was great. The "Lean In" mentality is as bankrupt as a Bernie Madoff account. Also loved her comment regarding Columbia Law School Students who couldn't/wouldn't take their exams because they were too upset over Ferguson.
Think about what you can do instead of watching others Adversity is opportunity Get up and go do your job - resilience Stop playing the victim Now is your story.
