- I finally got out on the bicycle to do the bicycle stealth camping trip. There were a few hiccups trying to get this thing filmed, but it worked out! I set up the hammock and camped along a lesser-traveled backroad.
On this trip, I used a MEC National Road Bike, Hennessy Zip Asymmetrical Hammock, and Thermacell Backpacking Version

I used a mountain bike and a 2 kid trailer when I was homeless. I kept 2 tarps, 2 blankets, some rope and a heavy sleeping bag in it plus clothes and tools for repairs. The trailer and sleeping bag were given to me and I also made alot of friends along the park trail who helped me out. I now live with some friends and take care of their house while they are on the road. By keeping neat and orginized even the park employees liked me and helped out also.
Thankyou that was interesting. I tented one summer out on a friend's property on a point -- a little piece of heaven on the coast. I had an outhouse and a spigot of good water, all I needed. He enjoyed the knowlege that his property was being watched. Endured a pretty bad storm there, 60-70 mph winds and 3 sailboats jumped up onto the wharf. I had a deer I named Beauty came by every morning for carrots and apples. I worked 2 lodge cleaning jobs and a hothouse job at the same time Lolol
Riding a bike with all your important items for survival,is alot better than stashing them and hoping they're still there later.i was homeless for about 6 months,and tried to carry everything around in a backpack,and 2 duffel bags...

Families are diseased and might infect you with the mundane and mediocre virus. You gotta wear your flasher coat and sunglasses to ward them off. Be wary though, they are in a symbiotic relationship with pigs and may call upon them to harass and abuse you

When I was a kid, long time ago in the ‘70’s, our family vacations were camping trips. Dad would make us kids police the campsite before finally packing up. Lots of beer cans ( probably Dad’s) and lots of cigarette butts, gross now to think of to pick up since neither of my parents smoked
No trace, did you pour the used cooking oil back in the bottle? deep fry camping, beats getting one's kitchen all greasy

Steve has inspired me to go urban camping (boondocking) myself.
I will be going for the first time (just myself and my dog) for my 50th birthday this year.
I have been fantasising about it since I was ten years old, and have been preparing it for the past six months.
I can't wait...

I hope the best for you Steve. Your videos gave me the reprieve that I needed during the worst time of my life. I lost my mom to ALS ( Lou Gehrig's disease) almost 5 years ago. Your videos helped me stay aware that there was a future for me even after she passed away. Thanks again for reminding me of the things we loved to do, as a family.

Ha! Me, too. Plain shredded wheat bricks (we were allowed to sprinkle sugar - sparingly) or original Cheereos were the options. Then mom started getting Kix which was just a bit sweeter... Dad must have got a raise. And my buddy from school was exactly as Steve described, I went home sick the first time I stayed over. And no one ever wanted to stay over at my place, no fun food. But we never had weight or health issues.
I always love when you get into other people's heads. "They'll just think I'm pedaling home groceries." I actually dont think anyone even gives you a second glance.

21:43 no reason to be bitter. You turned out just fine. My parents had me eat Oatmeal just about everyday of my childhood. Dad would sneak in a quick spoon of sugar for us sometimes, which was always a great treat :) This all makes me wanna do a some stealth camping once im able to.
When Steve misses a week I go to his channel to make sure I didn't miss one and then I watch an oldie but goodie.
Steve opening up about his childhood cereal trauma was heart warming. I feel for him. My beautiful wife is putting our kids through the same abuse. 🥰

Hey Steve, I found your channel by accident a week ago... Fast forward to today and a week of binge watching when I can. Love the content. I'm just going to ask one thing. If you love bicycle camping why not make it a little easier on yourself and put an electric motor kit on the bike? The modern ones don't weigh almost anything and will help you mainly on uphills and bridges.

I wish I had a buck for every time that happened to me. That's WHY you've got to "cosy up" to the hammock before you put your full weight on it. (i.e back into it, and let your legs catch you if the knots don't hold.
The knot is what in the UK Fire Service is called a 'slippery hitch' by us old timers. No longer in use, it was tied in the centre of your self rescue line so you could recover the line once you had abseiled to safety. The reflective tyre walls are hardly 'stealth' Steve.

Just recently started my own camping journey and I’ve struggled with which type of knot to use. That short tutorial helped so much!!! So much easier that what I had been doing.

I'm going camping tonight with the family, this just gets me more excited for it, cheers Steve.
Live in so cal and haven’t had an alert to leave, more of a police going up and down the road yelling on the loud speaker to get out now(in a bunch of smoke), “evacuate now, immediately, get out now, don’t grab anything, just leave” new fire sparked close and made us leave immediately , we pulled our hose around the front of our house and sprayed everything before we left and left our hose out front, firefighters took that hose in front of our house and hooked it up to their truck for water, they doused all flames near our house and saved our home!!! When we came home hours later, we gave the firefighters some food and they acknowledged that if our hose wasn’t left out front to keep water in their tanks, they wouldn’t of been able to save our home, back in 2014 San Diego fires. Fireman save lives and homes 🙏

WIth regards to the breakfast situation when Steve was a kid, I know it sounds a bit off but hear me out. I reckon this is what allows him to enjoy the little things in life so much. If you are used to having very little, even the tiniest amount more feels like a treat. My upbringing was almost the same and I am very easily satisfied myself, wouldn't want it any other way.

Hey Steve! Nice Touring Bike. Back in the early 80's I had a Brooks Saddle. Mine had large copper rivets and very thick leather. What you need to do is put it in water overnight and ride it wet for about 30 miles. Wait for some hot weather to do this. You will then have the most comfortable bike saddle you will ever own. Good Luck and Good Wind.
