Every time I see your garden I get a bad case of "garden envy"!! Actually, a larger garden area is much easier to work, especially with a wheel hoe. Now that I've expanded my little backyard garden, it's ever so much easier to work the rows, and my weed pressure is so much less than it was, thanks to your videos and good advice!
The hand held model I grew up with was called a stirrup hoe, The 1 is kind of like that but with a wheel. The 3 tined one with pointed ends and wheel I used too as a child.. Brings back memories lol. Thank you for the video! Hope you have a great weekend!
One complaint! First of all let me say I absolutely love your products. They are very well made, very durable, long lasting, and very easy to operate. The customer service is awesome in that any time I have a question or concern, I can just call and you guys walk me through my problem. Now to my complaint about one of the wheel hoe attachments. The oscillating blade seems to cut under the weed and and places it right back down where it was, so it can reroot itself. That attachment does not "flip over" the weed. It's almost like I'm cutting under a sod of weeds without killing them. Suggestions?
If you use more of a shuffling motion, many times the blade will flip the weed on the backstroke. But that's why we recommend rotating the oscillating hoe and the cultivator teeth. For some weeds, simply cutting through them with the blade is sufficient to kill them. For other weeds, they need to be "flipped" and the cultivator teeth do a great job of that.
spend five more minutes to rake, problem solved . gardening is more than put the seed in and be amazed,.but it does take a little time and thought. don`t give up, when you eat from your garden, you will know what that extra time means.
Wow your garden looks great Travis !!! My doc might clear me on 12/19 do you think thats to late to plants some winter crops in N FL. ? I tilled it up with my tractor be fore my surgery . There aint nothing like home grown vegetables . I can taste yours just looking at them. You and your dad have the best looking gardens. Keep up the great work full steam ahead!!!
Travis I cooked some mustard after the frost and my son said they were bitter. I don't eat them myself but have always cooked them for my family. I was told a frost would make them taste better, I think that only works for collards. What do you think?
My wife has said that before about greens. Folks that didn't grow up eating greens often think they are bitter, but that's just how greens taste. Put a little vinegar and sugar in them and it will cut some of the bitterness.
@@gardeningwithhoss But I did grow up with greens on the table at least twice a week. I never liked them and would cover them with homemade pepper sauce. I'm one of 11 children, and whatever was cooked you ate it or went hungry. Most times I would eat only cornbread and tea, I disliked greens that much. Ever had squirrel gravy? Yeah that's how poor we were.
@@gardeningwithhoss Not many of today's youth would agree with us on that. My son's ate squirrel, rabbits and anything else they shot. When we bought them their first shot guns, we said "only kill what your willing to eat, we don't kill just to be killing " We now eat a lot of deer, but not rabbits and squirrels. Eating deer jerky today and it's delicious, and one of the healthiest meats out there.
I pull the dried wild carrot stems. I plant filters and toss coffee grounds on top. I have strawberries growing in my main garden so they are the weed. They prevent any others. I use the strawberry plants as a ground cover and I planted my Brussels in to them. On another issue my long handled “Lifetime guaranteed” pointed spade. Was going to COST me a fortune to have the wooden handle replaced, smh. The upshot is I ordered another handle and I’ll have to replace it myself with the help of some RUclips videos.
Hoss tools I have a question why do use drip tape on carrots you don't need to water the a lot because you want the carrot to drive down in the soil if you water the a lot they will just stay short?
We have not found that to be true. Moist soil allows the carrots to penetrate deeper and grow longer. It also makes them much easier to pull during harvest time. The drip tape also helps to keep the soil moist during the germination process. And the drip tape makes it really easy to fertilize through injection.

Is it possible to take the double wheel hoe apart and use it as a single? I am going to buy a wheel hoe for my garden next year, and I’m not sure which one would be best. If I can take it apart, I’ll get the double.
When was yall first freeze? Here in Oklahoma ours came real early 12 October. A month early. I dont have weeds in the winter here no chick wead of winter grass. I either have rye or clover growing during the winter till Feb. I then plow up for onions and beets and radish. Its just to cold here in msouth central Ok. for gardening. Yall are lucky you can in Georgia.
So if I have problems with nutgrass, is it too late to buy a single wheel to start tackling those weeds? Or are you just saying its better to start early on?
If you feel it is too late to salvage, take notes and plan for next season. You can salvage as much as you can and tarp it to kill the weeds. If it is not too late, take it one row at a time and clean right up next to the plants and leave the other weeds for walking paths. It can be very overwhelming and get ahead of you really quick. Don't give up.
Our soils weren't always this workable. This comes from years of cover cropping and adding compost and other organic matter. It's the only soil we have, so that's what you see in the videos.
Buy once cry once. Often you get what you pay for. Good American made equipment will last you and get the job done well. It also feeds the families of the Americans that built them.
Garden looking great Travis!!!
Thanks Xavier!

Once you get everything laid out like you want, it doesn't take too long at all to keep the weeds under control.

We carry a long handle version as well. Both are very handy tools in the garden!

Sometimes hand tools are faster too. Much quicker to grab them and go than to gas up the tiller/tractor.

You've probably still got time. Beets, collards, rutabagas, cabbage, etc. should all be fine.
@@gardeningwithhoss Thank you guys are the best
Yeah boy it was cold last night early this morning. Cabbage is looking great
Cold for us. We ain't used to that kinda weather.
Thanks so much for this! Do you have a video on exactly how to set up your drip lines?
Yes I do!

We ate squirrel growing up and will still eat it. Fried squirrel with gravy and biscuits is a dang good meal!

Hoss Tools This is a MAJOR selling point!
I'm in Florida with similar weather as you, my garlic has 12" of greens growing. Should I leave them alone or cut them off? Thanks☺🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋
Leave them and let them grow. You can cut the scapes (seed heads) once they form. They're good to eat.
Thanks

Is this tool practical for weeding around raised beds and yard areas that get weedy??? I just need to deal with weeds and not make rows.

First freeze was this week, but just 32 degrees.
Can those tools work in heavier soils
Sure. We've got customers all over the world with many different soil types.
Not to mention a handy tool for snake removal, wasp nest removal and grabbing things in trees lije pesky vines. :)
Yes, yes and yes!
So if I have problems with nutgrass, is it too late to buy a single wheel to start tackling those weeds? Or are you just saying its better to start early on?
Never too late. Nutgrass is best tackled by repeated aggravation. Annoy it enough and it will eventually go away.
Your carrots are waaaaaaaay bigger than mine! I still think I planted them too deep
They like a lot of water when they're little. We've been watering ours every other day for several hours.
I use my wheel hoe alot in my small rocky clay soil garden in zone 3. Thanks for a good product that this senior can use.
Glad you are enjoying it.
How do you order a catalog from Hoss
We no longer print a catalog, but you can find all our products online at www.hosstools.com.
Only first? We had 3 nights if freezing from Halloween on down here in Louisiana
Hopefully we won't have another one for a couple more weeks. Got some broccoli that's getting close.

... Going to be -20 overnight next week
That's just way too cold!
That before the windchill?
Keep the wood stove stocked up 🔥
All your tools are shown working on sandy soils that are too easy to work on.
Our soils weren't always this workable. This comes from years of cover cropping and adding compost and other organic matter. It's the only soil we have, so that's what you see in the videos.
Love these products.. just don’t love the prices. Seems like a lot of money for tools
When you consider the fact that they're built to last a lifetime, it's a very solid investment.

We used to do Two-Minute videos, but the majority of our viewers prefer the longer formats. (RUclips does too.)
Very good video
Very good keep it up and how do you do thi kind of taking out of weeds.
