It's mostly for the dark imposing colour of his beard
He saw the beast and now nobody's scared of him because
His beard turned white
And all agree
He looks like Santa Clause

Gotta say, there's a lot of subtext that gets missed here...
The Beast will spit you out, as a skeleton, because you'll have been swallowed, munched and digested whole.
Blackbeard's beard turned white out of fear.
The Beast got a hook stuck in his side, it's probably because of Captain Hook.
(Also, missed a golden opportunity to have the child just add "Beware the Beast of" to the sign.)
Still, it's pretty nice overall!

This video is really well done, but the low volume of the music is the only thing that I think detracts from it. Even at max volume.

Actually the "2d" was sfm as well.The model colors were set to all black to simulate 2d. I think he just used a blue screen method for the background.
