@Bruh I never had an idea if it's Auckland or Wellington, but for the most part of my young life, I thought Australia's capital is Sydney
There was a story a few years back when a New Zealand woman travelling abroad was almost denied entry to a country, the border guard claimed her passport was illegitimate, turned out he was just confused, he thought New Zealand was an Australian state, not a real country.
How stupid of him and his education system.
I think she was visiting Kazakhstan, and the border guards genuinely didn't believe NZ was a real country, and assumed she was an Australian trying to scam them. After all, if it isn't on the map, it must not exist.

Oceania is something nobody would have pay attention too without Australia and New Zealand.
Other way around lad, The Aus vs NZ is just bants.
The small islands constantly argue and have the occasional domestic which requires them being physically separated.
Aus mostly comes in and breaks up the fights, Occasionally the sheep shaggers come along for morale support and to expose war crimes.
Australia is always compared with Canada because these 2 countries have many similarities. But New Zealand is Southern hemisphere's actual Canada.
Plus have the same problem with Australia that Canada has with the US

TBH I think you should probably mention that the most likely current reason that Australia and New Zealand are separate is that they are not even on the same continental plate. Oceania is not a continent; it is a region containing various islands. Australia is part of the continent of the same name, which also includes Papua New Guinea and Tasmania. The rest of Oceania is a collection of islands not connected to any continental plate. New Zealand is a collection of those islands.
The boundary runs through the south island, making the north and half of the south island on the same continental plate as Australia.

Aslo the geography of both nations are quite different. like NZs is mainly mountains in the south and flatter in the north and enjoys wet/warm conditions. While Australia is mainly flat and mostly arid. but they do have lots more resources than NZ Like mining, coal etc.
I live in NZ and it's pretty nice here except in the summer, it's hell.

Sydney and Melbourne were fighting over being the capital so they constructed a city in between them to settle it.

The Australia being the US of the southern hemisphere bit is hilariously accurate. Despite having such a small population of just 25 Mil, it is without a doubt the most influential and powerful country in this half of the world. Economically, militarily, culturally, they are very dominant in those regards. It is the #1 destination for South African immigrants to go to for a reason. New Zealand is the Canada of the Southern Hemisphere. Weaker, forgotten that it even exists, but culturally very similar to Australia and piggybacks off of them. Just like Canada, they hate it when you point it out....
But yeah.... Love them both regardless 🇭🇲🧡🇿🇦💚🇳🇿

Even Fiji was asked to join the Australian Federation but it refused, along with New Zealand. Tasmania was the only which agreed.
I don’t know. But in colonial days NZ British population was governed from Australia hence why NZ is mentioned in their constitution and is still stuck there now. But When there was a larger British population in Nz they had their own governor and moved parliament to NZ. Never heard that about Fiji but after the war German occupied Samoa was placed under NZ guidance by UK and today because of this the USA ambassador is still named ambassador to NZ and Samoa. Maybe this is the connection between Fiji and Australia?

Australia didn't become a federation because of a threat from Germany. A national military was only 1 of many reasons. Also other reasons New Zealand didn't want to become a state of Australia is NZ prime ministers enjoyed their power and didn't want to be relegated down to a state premier, NZ didn't want convicts from Australia, NZ were racist and didn't want chinese or pacific islanders from Australia to work in NZ. South and Western Australian colonies were colonised in a similar way to NZ and weren't convict colonies so NZ was being snobbish. NZ is as obsessed about cricket and other sports as Australia is.... Just some extra information left out

When they literally enjoy basically the same rights as each others citizens under the transtasmanian agreement.But have the perks of being independant countries like self determination and stronger influence over there local politics. This makes as much sense as EU becoming a single country.

The only reason Australia is the America of the Southern Hemisphere is because we are too lonely down here to have a better example. Seriously, there's only about 40 countires in the Southern hempisphere in total. And Australia is WAY different to America on very important things, like is it ok to let kids get shot or are women allowed rights. The Southern Country that represents the American South would be apartheid South Africa, and the Southern Country that represents American politics is Brazil, they literally had their own Trump (Bolsonaro).
