1:09:11 for anyone else struggling to paint emissives, you need to turn them on in the shader settings (2nd icon down in the top right; circle with a gear), and then you'll be able to see what you're painting.
Thank you so much for making this! It reduces the barrier of entry into making our own custom skins by so much! Have a great Holiday and a New Year. The Trackmania Community thanks you!
Ohh boy.... Wanted to get into skinning in TM and found this 2 hour video :D Looking forward to work my way through it. I have a background with Photoshop, so I hope I wont struggle too much. Thanks for the good work! :)
Super helpful, i had no experience in substance or any programm like that, now few days in i can get pretty good results and the project file helped me alot to get over the starting hurtle. Cant wait to make skins for the upcoming TM cars and the Pilot. Thanks alot for the work you put in ;)
Awesome Video! Only thing I'm seeming to have issues with is the emissive painting... Nothing shows up when I follow your steps exactly on the car. I'm unable to make a car with any working lights actually (speed, brakes ect.) Any thoughts?
Video was awesome.. Got all the way through... Problem is, after the trackmania upload glitch, and you do the fix.. the wheel color disappears.. shows well on the in-game editor.. not sure the problem
Would the warp projection be the best way to go if I want to place a character image cleanly on the car? Or would it still look warped …? I’ve only just got the club access and am just starting to look into making a skin.
Hi fantastic tutorial, I used this to build my very first skin. Really enjoyed the process. I was wondering how to change the in game brake light colour. Currently when I push the brake the spot behind the front tires as well as the lights of the back of the car turn red. I would really like it to be white. Is that possible?
Nope, Red gets added to these parts automaticly You have to find yourself a spot that isnt where the original break light is. Then you can have it white.
I'm using photoshop for the skin because my pc can't run substance, perhaps do you have an export preset that works in that? I'm using the Nvidia Texture Tool Exporter
Okay i mean cool, the painter is described nicely, but the export process. I dont even understand what program did you use to open all the files and you just speed up 5x times. Its not possible to do by that, im lost what to do.
I might be dumb, I'd love to watch all of it, but i don't even know how to start, how do you import a "base car skin" to start working on ? Like the frame of it or however it is called, sorry i don't know the right terms :/
you will find the export preset here, drop it in the material shelf and it will import it. cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/855385660268347424/917476113553428490/TM2020.spexp
I tried painting the break lights with blue but they flash blue and then turn red, any idea why this is happening? Thank you for the tutorial, very in depth
Ah, yes basically the brakelight get red light added by the game. That is something you have to kind of work around. Althought for me it works by having the gear box lights blue too and i have a separate area for my brake lights which are also blue. On my skin the gearbox turns black and the other area below it then lights up blue. Join the skinning discord for more help, link in the description :)
Where do I find the TM2020 Output Template? I'm not seeing it with the Painter template file in the description. I finished my skin but don't know how to export it haha.
thanks, bit outdated maybe tho. The export you either create it manually or download the export preset in the archive and drag and drop it in the material library window
Is there some sort of preset i need to do for the student version? I couldnt get the camera to rotate view and my font size looked very zoomed in, but I dont know how to change it.
Tank you for the tutorial, its been really helpfull!! However, I've ran into an issue that I haven't been able to figure out or find an answer for. For some reason my Details_I is preventing the speedometer from showing up in game. When I include it with the skin the brake lights I added work fine, but blank on the back. If I take it out, no more lights but it shows the car speed again..Any ideas?
mhhh i would guess you didnt paint custom speedormeter lights. it doesnt show lights cuz probably didnt delete the default ones exported at the end without changes. Comes down to, you didnt change smth, then delete the texture. You will get the best help by joining the skinning discord in the description :) The people on there will get your problem fixed in no time.
I've updated the link with the newest one that came out today, now with a shader that allows you to toggle your lights and dirtmask with a simple checkbox
Hey. I cannot export my file. I don't seem to find trackmania as a preset to export. If I try to export it as 2d files, I only have four tga files. Maybe you can help me

If its somewhat of a sticker the planar projections is the easiest way, angle it so its not stretching and you good

can i import an already made skin to not start from scratch?
can I use zbrush instead substance painter?
Hey there, is it possible to give gear lights custom (seperate) colors? And how would I do that?
well you paint the segments in different colours but know that the game multiplies colour onto it automaticly
My skin doesnt show up in replay or let me upload in club what am i doing wrong?????
i get erorr 0x00000190 in skin upload
can u use other peopls skins that people have made??
i do not have the export template :/

if you didnt touch a layer you can delete it and the game will take the default one instead

@Nokomari it's the in the files he shared you have to add that template to substance painter.
is there a way to create emissive wheels? i can't create emissive color layer in 'wheels' object
yeah its possiible, you might just jave to add an emissive channel in the texture set settings then you can activate it on the layers
