Brad takes his yass pill for 15 minutes. I've always said that trans women make the best electronic/hyper pop music and that is first and foremost because of Sophie. I think we are going to be hearing her influence for a long time. RIP to the legend.
The production on Ponyboy and Faceshopping absolutely blew my shit. The hard as FUCK industrial sound is like nothing I’ve heard outside of Death Grips. Really wish we could have seen where she would have gone.
Faceshopping to me always read to me as a reference to ffs or facial feminization surgery where trans women shave bone off of their skulls to get more feminine features. Photoshop edits the image, face shopping edits your skull.
This album has already influenced so many other artists, and will definitely be considered a classic in coming years. It sounds like little else in the mainstream, and its themes are worth exploring and important to so many people. What happened is still so tragic. R.I.P. legend.
I remember reading the news about her passing on my birthday, breaking down drunk in front of my friends, I still can't believe it's real. Rest easy, queen🖤
I'm not gonna lie, I had never heard of her until January of last year, because of a Jon Denton reaction. He was reacting to Yeah Right by Vince Staples ft. Kendrick, and that track was produced by her. It just feels so weird and strange to me that only a few days later after that and discovering her, she tragically passed away. Again, not gonna lie, I haven't gotten too much into her music but I can't imagine how her fans and her family felt... obviously a very talented artist.
experimental music and queerness are two things that go hand in hand between pc music, hyperpop being lgbt+ dominated, liturgy, and so much more. SOPHIE was a visionary and ooepui was her personal story and expression of it
I cried when I heard the news that SOPHIE died. She will always be one of my favorite electronic artists. Not only was she an immense talent, she had a beautiful soul, and you can tell that when you listen to her music. RIP SOPHIE, you'll always be missed
She will go down as one of the most important artists not only of her generation but of all time and she did that of the back of ONE ALBUM and a handful of singles Legendary
the idea i get from this album is hardcore bipolar. feeling extremely sad emotions and feeling its okay to cry, then a second later youre 5 shots deep at a rave having the time of your life. thats what sophies music feels like to me.
I need to deeply describe this: I had a weird and creepy dream about you last night Bradley: you were on a livestream and really sleepy so you laid down, your fiance came over and started cutting your head with a kitchen knife in slices like it was a big Christmas ham. You said it was totally fine and that it'll grow back but everyone in chat was really scared and freaking out and your fiance told everyone to stop worrying. It later came out that it was a huge hoax but everyone was angry because of how graphic it was. Have a good day!
i just started getting into it a few days ago and it legit paralyzes me with unexplainable emotions. the only other song thats come close to the vibe (a little bit) is the random guitar playing in the second half of sun’s coming up by tame impala.
@@joaquin5929 I don't even agree with that tbh. There are very clear themes around sexuality, gender, identity, intimacy, introspection, materialism, etc. The songs don't flow 100% cohesively I suppose, but I don't think "smooth transitions" are inherently better than jarring ones tbh.
@@FerdaTunes they sometimes don’t. The track “Not Okay” feels so small because its placement. It’s in the middle of the two dreamiest songs on the record and by the time Inmaterial begins I already forgot it existed. It’s a good song but it doesn’t give anything to the album. It’s not a good placement.
This is peak brad taste in music, the edits, his comments, the way these videos hypnotize you, it's great. This would however come at the sacrifice of the livestream recordings. Would honestly still prefer this.
I need to take a moment to praise the editing in this video and in the rest of Brad’s content as well. Any other RUclipsr would just give their raw reaction and let that do the talking, but Brad takes it a step further with the visuals giving a sense of how he’s experiencing the track in the moment. It’s almost like its own mini-music video. Incredible work!
I love the editing in this video, brad. Your editing style was one of the reasons i subbed to your channel in the first place. I hope you do it more often. Also i had never heard of sophie before this video but now I'm definitely going to check out more of their projects.
i think the thing about cohesion (or the lack of it) in this album is that - much like what happens in our internet era -, the nature of everything feels rather fragmented and disrupted. pc musicians are well studied art stans, and figures like sophie and ag cook, when embracing the hyperpop aesthetics and massive digital-driven production are in fact reinforcing the impending conflict that - as of contemporaries of late capitalism -, they find on music as an art form vs. music as a product. the very nature of the album's cover and tittle suggests that it is the case. in this sense - and also considering personal themes sophie do heavily explore in OOEPU-I, like matters of gender and identity -, i do think that this album is pretty cohesive, at least on a concept level.
Okay, about your commentt on Is It Cold potentially having an EDM drop, um Flume has collaborated with Eprom on a remix to this song on Flume's mixtap that did just that and it was so weird and experimental for an EDM drop that it's actually pretty awesome. You can tell that SOPHIE was happy with it too as she ended up featuring on another song on that same mixtape: Voices, featuring vocals by KUCKA. EDIT: Now that I think about it, you should definitely react to Hi This is Flume. Proves that Flume is easily way more than just another pop EDM producer.
not sure if it's of comum knowledge now, but I just want to point out that the album title is an anagram and it can be translated into "I LOVE EVERY PERSON'S INSIDES", and yeah I think that's beautiful. Also, RIP SOPHIE, she was a true genius and so inspiring as an artist.
I passed this album up for a couple years at this point since learning about it and I'm a bit angry at myself now. Buying it physically soon but this album is something incredibly special.
Sophie is so incredible, I am incredibly sad that I discovered her after her passing, nonetheless I enjoy the music. I am here once again to remind you to listen to Eartheater if you like beautiful dreamscapes, specially her album Trinity, she has said that she's inspired by Sophie and is friends and collaborates with Arca. Love you :)
I would recommend that you check out Xilent - We Are Dust. It also has a liner narrative aswell which is very rare in the bass music scene
Ah yes, the having to split the heavily edited video into two parts because the computer can’t handle it situation, I’m pretty familiar with that XD Such a fantastic video to see from you Bradley, I’ve been very interested to see your thoughts on SOPHIE for a while (RIP Legend), I started getting into her music and other hyperpop artists like 100 gecs and Charli XCX earlier this year and it’s been a wild ride. Also recently revisiting this since Sophie is one of my favorite artists of all time, and yeah the cohesion isn’t there but there’s something about it lacking cohesion that feels really intensional and kind of creates cohesion by being so all over the place.
