Pete, I am in the U.S. As best I can, I of course will share your project to all. We do have a kind of mantle to pass to others about music and culture. I am old enough to appreciate the care and living that went into that song. But doing a cover can also perpetuate the human truths inherent in the original. A snapshot of how life was and is, regardless of the times. People may be more hungry for that sonic and cultural richness in the U.K. than they are here. It is a service you are mirroring back to us. And, of course, the work all of you put into that performance is priceless.
Great to see all the very enthusiastic comments ... I am not alone in being bowled over by this band. All the 7 parts come together brilliantly. Hattie the crowning glory of it.
Went to see this band live in Cranleigh last night,Friday 23rd. Fantastic show by 7 truly outstanding musicians. Standing ovation by all who were lucky enough to be there.
Hi John, a very belated 'thank you' for your super-positive comment! I'm really glad you enjoyed the show at Cranleigh... Dave!! Great to hear from you! We will be playing in Torbay in November....come along to the gig! Thanks for writing in - I suspected you might enjoy this period of Joni's work (my favourite period too!) Cheers, Pete
I'll never understand how Joni packed so much into a song. It's like a whole world of feelings occurring in just eight minutes. So layered, so free, but so premeditated. Unreal. You guys really captured it perfectly.
I had the pleasure of seeing the band live at Peggy's Skylight - they were absolutely stunning. It takes special musicians to fill the shoes of Pastorious, Metheney et al but these guys are top drawer and make it all sound effortless. Hattie gets about as close to Joni both in timbre and phrasing as anyone is likely to get but still seems to put her own stamp on the rendition. I grew up listening to Joni Mitchell and she is probably the best songwriter of the 20th century - I hesitate to say this is the next best thing as I suspect Joni wasn't always on form live - go see them!
Nice to read a more recent review as I have bought tickets for a couple of people very special to me.I would dearly love to see Hattie and the superb band live but severe chronic health means I can't so more than happy to introduce some special people to it. If they enjoy it as much as I would of then I will be more than happy. I've said befor that I love these interpretations of the songs no attempt to blindly copy but true and unique interpretations, works for me and hopefully , as the word gets around, it will start to work for many more.
Wow, wow, wow...!!! I am usually very reluctant to listen to covers of Joni's music, because I am nearly always disappointed with others' renditions of Joni's masterful works. When I listened to this group I was floored! I had gooseflesh from beginning to end! Hattie Whitehead's voice is beautiful, and she was faithfully spot-on to Joni's cadence! I was smiling throughout this song! Dave Jones' work on the Bass was excellent, Ollie Weston was magnificent on the Soprano Sax, Pete Oxley, Chris Eldred, Rick Finlay, and Phil Hopkins were excellent as well! I absolutely loved this! Thank you, Pete Oxley, for sharing this with us! You all are wonderful!
Most covers of Joni's music leave me cold and/or bored, but this? Beautifully sung and played. Fully captured its brilliance and beauty. If I lived in the UK, I would go see this band.
@@peteoxleyguitar I'm happy to share. I currently live in the Knoxville, TN area of the U.S. You might want to check out the Big Ears Festival (happening this coming weekend) to see if Hejira can get on the bill next year. 🤞
Holy moly - what a superb band and what a pristine vocal!! The vibrato is scary close - especially with that breathiness - hair on back of neck stuff. Everyone on point and nailing it. A fabulous tribute.
BRILLIANT! Thank you! Joni is THE influence of all influences on songwriters who strive to be true and authentic and it's TIME for the next generation to keep her flame alive!

Loved seeing you guys last week in Cardigan. What a fantastic show. And what great musicians you all are. I would happily watch you every night. Joni's versions are being replaced in my head by your brilliant interpretations. And I enjoyed Mr Jones' heavily disguised Continuum! Took me ages to twig!

I have to comment this! This is such an excellent rendition of the classic, I am stunned! Bravo Hattie, Bravo all the band, you caught the spirit and keep it alive. For me Joni is one of the most important artists ever, with her incredible lyrics and those crazy open tunings, and moving into Jazz from the Folk rails, how daring and courageous and then her voice.... So please: more of these 🙂 ciao Hanno
Hearing someone reiterating some of Jaco's bass guitar work is such sweet sorrow. I grew up not far from where Pat Metheny did , and had his "Bright Size Life" album with Jaco on the bass which was amazing in itself; a local boy playing with Jaco I'd seen perform with immortal jazz legends Wayne Shorter, and Joe Zawinul with Weather Report. And of course Joni had written some anthemic songs of the generation, so when "Don Juan's Reckless Daughter" was released I was all over it. Beautiful stull. Beautiful rendition. Amazing vocals paying tribute to Joni's expression. Take care of that voice, Hattie. It's a treasure. And thanks to you old dudes. Just keep playing till your last breath.

If you can. please spread the word among your Joni-loving friends: we will soon be on a nice autumn tour of the UK! Please see www.hejira.co.uk for our forthcoming dates! Cheers, Pete
Excellent....
My favourite period of Joni's music.....beautifully recreated!!
Well done Pete!!!
Dave!! Great to hear from you! We will be playing in Torbay in November....come along to the gig! Thanks for writing in - I suspected you might enjoy this period of Joni's work (my favourite period too!) Cheers, Pete
@@peteoxleyguitar Hi Pete, coming to see you and Nick at Teignmouth in May. Looking forward to catching up. Best. D
same here !!!!
I could watch this every day for the next year for the next year and not get tired of it. Wonderfully done, everyone.
wow, what a voice, and perfect cover of this song probably like no one else can do. bravo
Hey there...that's very kind of you to say so. I'm glad you appreciate Hattie; I totally agree with you there!
Takes serious balls to speak directly to your inspiration in yr own voice. Gorgeous.
I'll never understand how Joni packed so much into a song. It's like a whole world of feelings occurring in just eight minutes. So layered, so free, but so premeditated. Unreal. You guys really captured it perfectly.
holy crap...this is phenomenal. Has Joni herself heard you, Hattie Whitehead?
Her voice is incredible… She is so attractive.
And the band is excellent. This is so wonderful…
Sublime vocals from Hatti & stunning musicianship from this very talented band! Fabulous!⭐
Hey Glen...Thank you so much!
Yes, one of her greatest. Well done with finesse and a light touch. Beautiful.
Hey David, Thank you for such an insightful comment!
This easily makes it on my list of all time favourites!!! I am deeply impressed.
Musicianship at a very high level. Inventiveness yet managing to stay within the spirit of the piece. Excellent❤
Hi Ash... thank you so much for your comment! Please share and spread the word so that one day, we might be able to perform wherever you are?!
@@peteoxleyguitar I'm happy to share. I currently live in the Knoxville, TN area of the U.S. You might want to check out the Big Ears Festival (happening this coming weekend) to see if Hejira can get on the bill next year. 🤞
To you all...Brought tears to my eyes, so...I know I appreciate all of your talents!
A very worthy version. Hattie's voice is perfect, and the bass is nicely tasty.
Holy moly - what a superb band and what a pristine vocal!! The vibrato is scary close - especially with that breathiness - hair on back of neck stuff. Everyone on point and nailing it. A fabulous tribute.
Oh Hattie, what a wonderful gift you have shared with us. Thank you 🙏.
Damn, it might as well be Joni!! The whole band just nailed it.
Hey Glenn, thanks very much for your kind response!
BRILLIANT! Thank you! Joni is THE influence of all influences on songwriters who strive to be true and authentic and it's TIME for the next generation to keep her flame alive!
Hi Mark, Thanks very much for writing - v. glad you enjoyed this! I agree with your sentiments: Joni is a one-off and for my money, in a class above most other well-known singer-songwriters!
Those are hard shoes to fill creating anything as unique on every level.
@@petemavus2948 Pete - They are kinda impossible shoes to fill!
As I said in a thread elsewhere, our objective is to honour this music and give a lot of people the enjoyment of these great pieces (after all, millions of people will go and thoroughly enjoy Bach - without ever having heard HIM perform his own music!!😅)
Btw, we are all also bandleaders of our own projects, writing and performing original music too. Please check out www.peteoxley.com for examples of one such project!
@@peteoxleyguitar Gotcha! 👍

This and Song for Sharon are my two favorite Joni songs…this cover blew me away…loved every second of it. Thanks for sharing it!
Hi Bill - I agree...and I hope we'll be including Song For Sharon in our sets soon!
Wow! That was some cover!! I loved the band, but that singer’s voice… I think I’m in love etc.
Best cover I have seen for as long as I can remember. Awesome.

Saw these in cardigan this evening and it bought me to tears 🫶🏼 if I closed my eyes it’s the closest too the real thing I’m going to get live 😍 so so good!!
This album was the soundtrack to my life in 1978 after discovering it at the Husky truck stop in Prince George BC on 8 track. Never heard anyone attempt a cover... wow 😍
Listening again. You're making me moist up! You are all very fortunate to have found each other.
New to your existence, I was very puzzled and annoyed by the typo in the cover image! :)
Delighted that I decided to listen to your masterful rendition of my very favorite song by my very favorite goddess!
Beautiful! ❤️😊❤
Very little doubt that this performing troupe will garner much respect and acclaim. This a wonderful performance and a great tribute to the legend herself. Hope to see you in America in the future and best wishes for a successful tour later this year.
hey there...thanks very much for your positive comment! I really hope we'll get to the states, so please spread the word (and share the video) to help make that happen!!
I have got my tickets for ‘The Platform’ in November. Wonderful band!
Saw this wonderful band at Hungerford last night. Absolutely fantastic. Such a warm and brilliant concert. They are outstanding musicians led by Pete Oxley a virtuoso guitarist, and Hattie Whitehead whose voice is sublime. I almost couldn’t believe what I was listening to!
It’s important to keep this music available in live performances, provided the artists doing it do it justice, and these do!
Wow! I don't know if Joni has ever heard you guys, but I'm sure she would be proud of you for doing such a good job with her song! Kudos!
Well...Joni would be THE ultimate audience and of course, I really hope that she would appreciate our version...
I’m pretty sure she would appreciate it! I’m also pretty sure she would feel honoured that you produced such a beautiful version of her song. This is an exceptional cover. Pretty damn perfect if you ask me.@@peteoxleyguitar

Hi Rene, Thanks very much for such a positive response! Please share widely and keep spreading the Hejira word!!
So please: more of these 🙂
ciao Hanno
