I've noticed that with a lot of Japanese fantasy in general and esp. "space-opera" from certain eras, there is so much subconscious (and conscious) metaphor and imagery for atomic weapons and power (understandably so, after Hiroshima and Nagasaki). Man is usually menaced by some overwhelming force of evil which is technologically superior but the heroes have access to some arcane, god-like, super destructive power that the humans barely control and barely understand, yet it wins the day.
I like how the animation shows the blast from the wave motion gun passing across the bow of the ship. Weren't exactly paying attention in the editing room.
Funny how they use the fancy term of "40 space knots" but then also say that the base is southeast. How does one referance any cardinal directions in space? Still cool though...
Done right a US Star Blazers movie could absolutely rock the earth. They need to get at least some Asian actors in the cast mix to do it right just IMO, but yeah. Just imaging Clint Eastwood or Tommy Lee Jones as Avatar.... that would own it.
They could blow up the gamelon homeworld and teach the Gamelons a lesson: Mess with humans again and we'll blow up your planet with the Wave Motion Gun!
I love how there complaining about the risk of using the motion gun because it might not work, but if it doesn't work they will just get hit and lose power for a while. However they didn't put up nearly as much of a fight to do a space warp when the risk was much higher and if it failed then they would all die or go to the forth dimension.
this would make such a cool live action movie.... I've seen some kind live action stuff for this from the japanese but I guess the powers that be in hollywood figure it would'nt make any money here....
@reverendjeremiah lmao i thought the same thing! do you think they mean that they went from the moon to mars in x-amount of time and that means they traveled thousands of light years an hour??
awesome.bloody awesome. best space opera ever.
this is one of my all time favorite anime's.
The WAVE MOTION GUN is AWWWWESOME!!! It sounds so cool when fired. The Gamelons are scared now!
