Jan Garbarek Quartet 'Afric Pepperbird' (ECM, 1970)
Best frikkin' thing Jan Garbarek ever did, in my opinion. Haven't heard this for 25 years. I saw him live in Jerusalem in 1987, I sat on the floor about two feet away from him, & watched how he stretched his whole body to get lower notes in tune -- he is just an incredible player. But this album was somewhere else. A big statement that still stands.
+Zbigi ZS , sorry, I don't know Polish language. I agree with You as far as I could understand. :)
+Alexey Hatandbeard ,
So right. We'll see how google translate :)... I think we do it well :)
I listen to this recording several months as if hypnotized. Each of us goes to "their sound". For me, these are the sounds. More and more I am confirmed in the conviction that at the turn of 60/70 reigned unique creative vein, which left great achievements.
+Zbigi ZS , the first thing i did took Google translator. I got abracadabra (the translator is not very well translated into Russian or Ukrainian) :)))
Yeah, 60 and 70 were good times for jazz. But i like other periods too. Bop is my old time passion. And, of course, i like modern jazz (Scandinavian and Polish jazz in the first place).

Damn Jan does it again with power and grace. he influenced many horn players over the years.
Awesome the builds happening on those solos are gorgeous !!!
Marvellous blend of free form and groove! EXCELLENT !!!
Check also the masterpiece Michael Naura "Black Pigeon" also on ECM (!!!)
In a different style, if you also like deep bass sounds check also Harry Whitaker, Body, Mind And Spirit - Black Renaissance.
+Kesta En.Vinyle , thanks. I will check your recommendations. These names are new for me.
