I drive to work in Jülich, every time I pass this place ( that building ist called Hexenturm translated Witch tower). And I'm always thinking how it must have been, when the whole town was technically not existent anymore after the bombing in WW II
These transformation pics are fantastic .. how things changed .. some must have been difficult to find . We have a bunch of old black n white photos taken mainly in France I think ..wartime ..some would be a real challenge
My girlfriend lived there before we moved to another city together, it's a beautiful place, there's also a large citadel that was turned into an animal and adventure park for children
Actually my family originates from Jülich. On the day the allies bombed Jülich to the ground my grandparents were on a day trip and not at home. When they came back their house was not there anymore. So i am lucky to be because they had enough money to go on a day trip.
Thank you from the daughter of a WWII British Army veteran who served with the 275th Royal Engineers attached to the 51st Highland Div and was in D-Day 🏴 🌺
Extremely funny framing, the video implies there was more left than the citadel shown. There kinda wasn't, it and nearby Düren were bombed down to less than 5 buildings combined if I remember correctly.
Somewhere, somehow, somebody has the memory of putting those bricks in place. It’s fair to say that those walls are alive with the perspective of all that lived in them. If you really wanna get philosophical
I WAS AT THE EXACT SAME SPOT WITH MY CLASS WHEN WE VISITED THE CASTLE. WE WERE STAYING AT THE HOTEL FOR 3 DAYS!!! The hotel is called jufa hotel btw)))
Jülich and Düren are the Cities that where destroyed most (procentually, not much to cry about like in Dresden). The General in charge watching the destruction said: "If the people who lived here want to build a new Jülich they have to build it elsewhere"
I can only imagine the stories the streets and buildings have
Yeah, the looting, raping, murdering. Research! They weren't liberators but oppressors until today.
Most of them don’t have a lot of history actually considering they were turned into rubble 😂

My guy that thing was built in the 14th century xD its gonna outlast us all
Also think about the structures that were bombed to pieces. Germany would be a real life Disneyworld all over.
