Been using my LR4 XS as a camper for a good while now and it works great. A couple of tricks I've learned. 1) The roller parcel shelf fits into fill the gap between seats you mentioned. 2) Slide the front passenger seat forward for 4" of extra space, will then fit a 6 footer easily. 3) Thermal window blinds / covers are a god send in the winter and reduce the noise level even more. One expense well worth the money IMO 4) Drop the suspension height and use the rear tailgate for cooking on, it works a treat and gets you up off the [wet] ground. Just cover the carpet to avoid spillage marks etc. 5) Fit some side window wind deflectors, they allow you to leave the glass slightly ajar for nighttime ventilation without allowing any rain to drip in. 6) Home Bargains sell some cheap black boxes with hinged lids for £2 that slide perfectly under the roller parcel shelf when its fitted. They are not waterproof, but are great if you want to store kit in your car all the time. 7) The first lock button on the key fob allows you to lock the vehicle while you are inside without arming the alarm system if you want to feel 'safer' at night? I use a locking ski box locker on the roof now so I can take extra kit along without cluttering up the interior. The LR4 is a great single person, off road capable camper. Looking forward to your next videos mate, keep them coming.
well done. It's even better than sleeping in a rooftop tent. I've been sleeping in several Land Rovers for 28 years. Now in a Disco 3. And with a parking heater it's even better. Have fun.
Hey. Thanks for the kind words. I'm sure you'll love the Disco. It's not always easy to live with, but I wouldn't change it for anything. I'm about to drop a few more videos with some mods I made. Mostly electrical stuff like leisure battery, solar panel, light bars and work lights, dash cam etc. Nothing to make it better off road yet. That might be next year's project.
Great vid! I'm looking at purchasing a Disco (LR) 4 because, like you, I'd like to sleep inside when camping or potentially purchase a rooftop tent. Plus, it's a super capable vehicle that looks pretty nice as well. Thanks for the great content. Keep it comin'!
Thanks for the kind words. Yes I agree, I think the Discovery 4 ticks a lot of boxes. I know they can be unpredictable and costly to maintain, but I wouldn't swap it. I absolutely love it. I've just finished fitting a spare wheel carrier and bike rack so I'll hopefully post that video soon.
@@inhistracks I took the leap! Purchased a 2012 LR4 a couple of weeks ago. Now considering the Front Runner roof rack and ladder based on your previous video and endorsement. Gonna have it installed, tho. Your install looked pretty involved and frustrating. Was considering the smaller rack just for a tent and maybe a bolt on or two but do you recommend the full rack now that you've had it for a bit?
@@phoenixnormand7011 Congratulations!! Having a Land Rover is like having a pet. It will be frustrating and rewarding in equal measure but you won't want anything else. It will probably cost a fortune too, but worth it. With regards to the rack, other people commented that they managed to fit with no problems, so maybe my experience was unique... or directly proportionate to my skill! 😅 I am happy I bought the full rack. It looks really good on the Disco and as I increase my ambitions and plans, I know I will want the extra space.
@@inhistracks Thanks, mate. This is super helpful and I truly appreciate the replies. In your neck of the woods in April. Love to buy you a pint and see that sweet new bike carrier! Can't wait for that video, btw.
Any more camping videos in the disco? I’m thinking of getting one. Go travelling around the uk. Maybe the nc500 coast run. Just gona be me and my dog :)
Yes, I have some raw footage of a couple of recent trips, but I spent so long doing the last set of modifications and editing the videos, that I've not managed to release any of my other camping trips yet. I'll try to get these published ASAP. I'm sure you'll have a great time camping in the Disco. If there's two of you, it will be cosy, but for one, it's great. Two things I really wish I had on my car for camping, but don't yet... an awning and detachable curtains.
@@Doguelife Yeah, she has some cool accessories. I like the heater and even the LED lights inside the back of the cab make it look more homely. She is brave showing the awning breaking too. We all learn better when people are honest in these videos and don't just show the good bits.
Hey. Yeah, Arwan mentioned that in his comment. Your comment reminded me, so today I dragged it out if the garage and it even has labels on it showing how to slot it in to the gap! Thanks for commenting. I hope you're having some adventures too.
Great video mate! I've been planning the same sort of thing in my head for a while now, but just haven't gotten round to doing it yet! My first plan was to upgrade a few bits on the car, like the Front Runner roof rack and some sort of draw system for one side of the back of the car. I was thinking to cut out some 18mm plywood to fit the entire length and width of the car with the seats flat, that then being the base and a sleeping mat on the left, then some draws and a fridge or something on the right side. Maybe a Jackery power pack thing with solar/car charging it for power. I'm 6'4", but seem to be able to fit (testing on the driveway :D) just about, with the passenger seat still useable. I've just put some new tyres on. It's tricky to find anything really all terrain for the 19" rims, but I've found some 255 55 R19 GoodYear Wrangler DuraTrac's which are nice and chunky, fit perfectly and aren't massively noisy on the road. Looking forward to the next video!
Hey Al. Thanks for your comments. Yeah, I fit the Front Runner roof rack too and I really like it. In fact, that was the first video I did before this one. I was also thinking about lining the back with ply, so there's a nice flat surface to sleep on and also something to secure things down to in the back when I have the middle seats folded flat. I was thinking of having two pieces folded, maybe on a piano hinge, so I can fold it over when I'm using the middle row of seats and unfold it when I'm using the whole back area for cargo/sleeping. I think Id probably risk just 12mm though. I hope you manage to get out in it soon. I think you'll find it incredibly rewarding. Also, I'm fitting a bike rack as we speak! Hopefully I'll get a video produced in a few weeks for that one.
Hey mate just wondering what’s the mileage on your discover 4? As I heard the engine has to be replace around 200k kms ? I’m not sure about what I heard!
It's approx. 105k km. I think Discoveries are quite unpredictable. You could get one that would go 300k with very few issues, while another would be riddled with problems from 140k. I'm more worried about the gearbox, but apparently these 8 speeds are supposed to be better built than the 6 speed.

I'm glad you said that! I've just bought a diesel heater but haven't tested it yet. I'll post a video when I do.

That gap between the fold down seats is where the tourneo cover sits ;-)

Hi Gary. I stayed at Beltonville Farm in the Peak District. I put a bit more detail in the video description in case that helps.
