“Too much month left at the end of the money”
Ooof I've been there before lol
I had to rewind that because I wanted to make sure I heard what he said.
Big hat no cattle. We call that 'Fur coat no knickers' in England.
nah we don't
+Jack Wills what part of england are you from? Its quite common in the Midlands.
Underwear.
That sounds comfy and warm. Gonna try that for the rest of winter
Imma use that.
I call this the "Instagram family". Those people that post pics of the whole gang always happy and smiling, multiple time a day....
Flexing on the gram 😂... You speak the truth 💯
I deleted Instagram
Especially when they go on vacations a few times a year to exotic locals. You have to question if they can really afford it?
I’m single I stop looking at Instagram an Facebook just made me depress
I don't really smile much in pictures but my goodness I am a happy person. Moral is, those that don't look happy usually are haha!
My step dad always told us "If you can't pay cash for it you can't afford it."
"Ramsey you're mean; you're arrogant. Yeah, well, maybe. Maybe I just love you enough to tell you the truth, and you're just too much of a whimp to hear it." - Dave Ramsey (The Man. The Myth. The Legend)
Hahaha love this guy! He helped change my life!
Love him. My daughter says he always so sounds angry. I told her that when you get sick and tired he sounds like hope.
+Elizabeth Carroll Dave Ramsey sounds just like hope to me too.
I think the term here is 'tough love'.
If people talked to their kids like this instead of trying to be their best friend, their kids would be so much better off. And they'll love you for it and be closer to you in the long run. Trust me. It works.
Reminds me of President Trump and the wimpy, whiny liberals
I thank God that I stumbled across Dave Ramsey this man is very Insightful, Empowering and very much Informative straight cut no chaser!
The problem is if you suddenly become sick, have a sick kid, lose your job, or your house burns down and you still have that balance on your card, you will find yourself stuck with that debt. The problem with keeping debt for any amount of time is that there is always that risk. What people forget about debt is the risk.
I was trying to tell a friend at work that the other day & she just didn't get it.
You just don't keep a balance.
Very simple.
+Michele Nichols agreed. What was missed in that comment is that when an EMERGENCY happens, you end up with all kinds of things you didn't expect/want...including a balance aka debt.
+Michele Nichols
Won't happen. Im a different breed of consumer. No paycheck to paycheck. I just know what I'm doing.
I use my credit card as a debit card. A tool.
Automatically deposit $100/week to my card..
Buy my groceries($60/week) and gas($45/month) so there is always a excess cash balance.
Also things from Amazon. Usually prepay before buying.
The points pay my monthly Netflix and Audible bill.
Get all the perks.
Haven't made a late payment or paid a fee in over 25 years.
Have an quick access emergency fund and a large primary emergency fund that has grown through the years.
Always lived within my means since back when I lived in my car going to tech school.
Invested,saved,etc..since grade school and always had emergency funds and backup.
No mortgage or consumer debt.
Today I'm pretty much the millionaire next door type if you've read the book.
May not have a big hat....but I have a lot of cattle.
And I have several thousand shares of Visa and MasterCard from the 90s.
+ness0388
That's what an emergency fund is for.
"adults devise a plan and follow it,childrendo what feels good!" well said Ramsey.
Indeed😊
Dave speaks facts. He has haters but so does everyone.
The haters are broke lazy idiots.
HATERS==Having Anger Towards Everyone Reaching Success
peartfaldo u should patent that....cuz im about to STEAL it and put it on my facebook like i just made it up myself....lol
+peartfaldo love it.
peartfaldo I like that acronym :)
Too many ken & barbie couples in the USA today!
It's like that everywhere
Disney like
And at 22 they think they deserve the same house their grandparents worked 40 years to achieve. We'll just finance the house, granite counters, stainless steel appliances, new pickup. We deserve it all now because the bank will give it to us.
7 out of 10 living paycheck to paycheck. So important to remember!
In 2020 it's even higher. It's almost 8/10.
Most truly wealthy people I know live in such a way, no one would ever know it. And the people who are "flashy" are in debt up to your eyeballs!
Always ! And the latter group is laughable from the outside looking in.
I grew up surrounded by people that had no idea what they were doing with money. I too, did nothing but stupid stuff with money. Sadly, I am now fixing my stupid at age 50. I still have an amazing salary and wonderful family. Thank god for Dave. In the few months of practicing what he teaches I have money in the bank and my debts are disappearing! In the next 12-15 months I will be completely debt free and playing catch up. I know that hind site is 20/20, but I can’t help but wonder where I would be financially if I met Dave before I had graduated college. I can never say thanks to Dave enough for what he does.
this rant reminds me of my sister and her husband... they make more money than my wife and I and buy lots of expensive "toys" but they're always asking my parents for money because they're "struggling" give me a break... one of the many reasons I have nothing to do with them anymore and I don't miss it
That is sad😥
Ryan Cook instead of bad mouth your sister..help introduce her to Dave Ramsey tell them all about it, be a good shepherd and stop badmouthing your own family. Family is family you can’t choose them.I wouldn’t wanna have a friend or relative like you either!
Many times family are not your friends. Sometimes it's better to just stay away.
Nsiande Kweka pls stop thinking you know more about this person’s situation than they do!
Nsiande Kweka the irony of you response. Lol
"I don't want to be 70 years old and working at McDonald's; unless, it is the one I own in St Thomas!"
He says in Texas they call that 'Big hat -no cattle' ? In Britain we say ' fur coat -no knickers' love the visuals both phrases throw up and how they really define their locale!
Ellenor Spendlove hahaha
Catfish money with caviar taste!
Some older people may want to work. My grandfather and step-grandmother had it pretty sweet when they retired. Their finances were straight, and they lived comfortably with no debt. But my grandfather, who was used to working since he was a young boy, couldn't stand it. He went back to work part-time as part of a cleaning crew, at the place he used to work. It didn't require a lot of responsibility, and he was not on a strict schedule. He just needed to do his tasks before or after the office workers were on the clock. From time to time he even got to see some of the people he used to work with. He was much more content.

People need meaningful activities in their life. Mine is woodwork, car restoration and several other things such as reading history.

Part of my morning routine is playing Dave Ramsey.
He's right. Money touches every part and aspect of life. The goal is to manage yours responsibly, to the point where emergencies becomes an inconvenience , and your future is covered so you CAN retire. Part of that responsibility is to pass that knowledge to your babies
I listen to him every morning with a big cup of coffee !
Thank you, thank you Dave! Listening to you daily, keeps me motivated. I cut up and paid off over 15 cards, got 3 loans to pay off and free from stupid debt. 🙏🏽😊💕
Ms. Lopez 😍
Ms. Lopez same here!
Hope you have paid off all your debt.
It's quite satisfying to take those former debt payments and now channel that money towards investments for the future!
Imagine seeing your investments and net worth grow each month instead of your indebtedness!
i adopted u as my new dad since my past away I love your show I got addicted after I saw that I spent all my income tax return in one week 😥😔
A friend of mine several years ago asked me to help her with her debt. She already lost a house. She was spending $80 every week so her and her daughter could have manicures. Her father was giving her the money. She refused, said her and her daughter needed to do that. That’s $240 a month on fingernails.
Oh wow! That’s ridiculous. I haven’t been to a nail salon in years.
Dave Ramsey for President!
Kenny Steele hahah the banks would throw so much money at the other guy running
Kenny Steele I would vote for him!
he would be the anti politician!
Dave Ramsey special auditor for the Fed™
The entire government would be put on rice & beans, beans & rice
We went trick-or-treating with Ken, Barbie and their daughter this past Halloween. My husband had never met Ken before, wasn't a fan of his. Too much subtle-not-subtle bragging about this, that and the other. They either have far more money than we do or at least APPEAR to have far more money. It really annoyed my husband that he was so braggy, I didn't particularly care as we don't spend much time with them, and as I reminded hubby, either they truly ARE wealthy to afford that lifestyle, or they're drowning in debt. It makes no never-mind for us, as it is not our business and does not change our lives. I actually found it amusing to hear Ken force into conversation gems like, "Oh, we've been to Disney 6 times since our daughter (9 years old) was born" or, "Honey? What year was the 'vette, again?" when we were discussing something a far cry from cars. He really, REALLY needed us to know they have (or like to spend) lots of money. I wanted to say, "It's cool, man, we'd like you the same even if you were broke!".
when I meet people like that I start asking questions to get a feel for how well off they truly are or how they did it
When people try that hard to convince you they are "something", it is a pretty good chance the are nothing.
GodlessGoddess Yes, asking them how they got to where they are is genuine. If they truly are successful it'll be great to hear and learn their story, if they're actually not, it might elicit some of their failures and they drop the front. Once they stop chest-beating they may be likeable deep down.
Lol! In my experience truly wealthy people, are like the real tough guys. Or even someone with a good reputation. Tough guys don't talk about it, it speaks for itself. Lions don't need to tell someone they're a lion. That's how I think of most things in life. If someone needs to draw attention to a certain aspect of their life, its possibly the area they're the most insecure about.
I’m poor I don’t even know what a vette lol but said a car .
The "ancient word" cracked me up. That is really a lost word for sure, Dave. I wish I would have said that word many a time while I was giving money to ungrateful people instead of having a budget and a plan. Good message as always. Your words are resonating in my life and I will become debt-free using your methods and tenacity. Time to grow up, as you said.
You, sir, are a rock star...
Lol gotta love Dave Ramsey. He speaks the truth each and every time ☺
his personality and attitude reminds me so much of my dad LOL! Those rants will get you right together
There are (plural) massive marketing and finance organizations in the USA and Europe focused on making you feel as discontent as possible. Content people don't rush out to buy things they don't need and don't even really even want very much.
When worked at my first job at a convenience store, I was working with this older gentleman. A guy walked in with a suit driving a Cadillac. He was nasty to us, and when he left, the older gentleman said to me: "See that guy who just walked out? He's a 'ten cent millionaire'. He is wearing that suit and he probably doesn't have underwear, he's driving that Cadillac and he probably can't afford gas. It's all for show."
In Texas it's called "Big hat, no cattle". Hah! I actually wrote this before Dave said it.
4:35 Favorite Dave Ramsey line of my life.
A lady I went to church with when I was a kid always wore the same dress each Sunday. That her one good dress which she wore to the Lord’s house - and she used make a lot of donations to the church’s community assistance programs. Ie. the opposite of Ken & Barbie.
I believe people don't have retirement, some of the people in medical school are living in apartments that cost over $1300 per month!!!! One of my former co-workers was over paying for an apartment she couldn't afford. I'm in debt now, but I'm working my way out and I've admitted the behaviors I had is why I'm in this position. I'm have a goal to buy my house for cash and retire a millionaire.
Something I heard in a 12 step program meeting: "Never compare your insides with other people's outsides." :-)
"They're a facade". I felt sad hearing it. But I hear what he says and I agree. I hate the idea that America struggles in this way. I've made this observation myself also. I figured out that we're all trying to look* like we're competing with Ken and Barbie. It seems so undignified. We can all do better. I want better for my kids...so badly. That's where my "gazelle intensity" is, I guess. I don't want my kids to feel this kind of sadness. Even when* they make mistakes, I want them to at least know how to avoid this kind of facade in their own lives.
The matrix is real
This is my favorite Dave video. I love the commentary on the ancient word. :)
Wow. Powerful words of wisdom.
Every word you said is absolutely true. I have made every mistake but now I finally woken up. Thank you sir.
One thing I learnt from Dave Ramsey I’ll never forget is “before spending, always do the maths”. Thank you Dave Ramsey for helping some of us do a reality check and bring balance to our lives.
Brilliant, truthful, passionate discourse, one of Dave’s all time best rants.
I know a couple at my church that are great. However, they follow Dave Ramsey and are debt free.
A question from my dad... "How come there's always so much month left at the end of the money?" At least he's honest about being broke.
Dave Ramsey speaks the truth! Love this man! It’s crazy how we never think how much we are spending on a daily basis! It wasn’t until I saw his show that I paid attention and yes, I cut up my credit cards!
I'm so glad I get to listen to this now when if just started working before I get myself into debt.
thank you so much for this vid - I needed this today - I was beating myself up for my financial mistakes and realizing for the first time how it manifests in some other areas of my life, so I was feeling very blue.
Years ago taking money out of my Visa card at the Casino , maybe the dumbest thing i have done.
I wish I had heard of Dave Ramsey when I was younger, yep I'm stupid
His rate of return is WAY too high.
The average CAGR over the past 15 years if 4.25%
He's totally right about the rest of it. He just uses absurd growth rates.
No. It’s not. That’s the simple average growth rate. Which isn’t an accurate measure at all. The CAGR is much lower. Do you know the difference? I think not.
My etfs have gained 15-21 percent over the past ten year.
Ken and Barbie are stupid too!!! 😂😂
So many “Ken and Barbies” in our churches. They’ve become nothing but country clubs 😢
I got out debt long before I ever heard of Dave Ramsey. I enjoy his show because I did most of the things he recommends. I am now a millionaire but just a high school graduate. I also have a highly technical job which I enjoy very much. I can retire any time I want to. By the way, I am a third generation atheist. My parents and grandparents were good with their money.
mikeyvester well don't gain the world now, and lose your only soul in the process. Now that you've gain so much material physical things, why not give Jesus a try for spiritual nourishment. I did the same as you, I'm not a millionaire but I'm very very very well off, and I must say with Jesus in the mix, you'll have an eternal life after this temporary one to enjoy, God bless.
When you can provide some evidence the guy even existed, I will be more receptive. I was coming out as an atheist because Dave Ramsey's financial wisdom is universal. It applies to everyone. I wish more people could understand that. Now, as far as my soul goes, what is a soul. And by the way, when we die, we stop existing. No exceptions. I make the best out the only life I know I will have.
hey Mike, what do you think was the best thing you did to build your wealth rapidly once you had very little monthly payments after getting rid of all the unessesary debt? I understand not having lots of debt and unneeded stuff that ends up being a liability, but I am just wondering where financially successful people get there start.
+JDT738126 Nothing quick about building up money. When I paid off my house, five years ago, I took that money and invested it. Also, I haven't owned a new car since 1982. Like Dave said, when you finally get sick of being broke, you will do something about it. My debt snowball started with the highest interest rates going to the lowest. I hadn't heard about Dave when I decided to get out of debt. And I still have one credit card which I use for car rentals, hotel reservations and buying stuff online.
mikeyvester You're a star my man. Fellow atheist here too. Totally agree that Mr. Ramsey's advice works no matter what one's beliefs are.
I love Dave Ramsey rant videos
Bottom line is ; don't buy things you can't afford. Period
I follow Dave Ramsey since this also has a huge benefit for the energy crisis. Yes some of the old cars are gas guzzling, but not the same as continuing to buy SUV and pickup truck that cost more than a baseline Tesla Model 3 especially for use as a daily errand vehicle. For pickup truck, what do you put in the back of that truck on a daily basis? Not to mention there is a lot of old 4 cylinder cars out there with good miles per gallon that are helpful for people to use to get out of debt. Even the house, why would a small family (2 parents and 2 kids) get a 5 bedroom 3 bathroom house when you can just rent a cheap apartment? Then we have the school problem where you might have to rent in an expensive area to get a better school for your kids, but why are those other schools continue to be neglected all the time. At this point it might be best to homeschool kids and simply let the kids visit their neighbors and do other things to maintain social interaction and prevent the formation of depression especially when it comes to changing how the kids get their education and that they won't be able to see the other kids in the area. Food is another significant situation that has gone out of control. Enable your kids to cook and come up with their own ideas when it comes to food and enable them to eat more fruit and be able to cook some vegetables. We can hopefully correct the situation and enable people to become wealthy again. Also avoid the universities, they are becoming a money black hole. I do complain about the president Bush no child left behind policy and how it contributed to this financial situation when it comes to education and the many high schools that people can't rely on a person graduating high school to be educated and ready to get a job, but no, now you need a university, but might as well just buy the textbooks that cost a small fraction of the tuition, read them and practice solving the math problems, then you can work at any job that needs math and science.
this is by far the best rant well explained
I'm getting two free tickets to Europe this year because of my credit card points. I am responsible enough to pay it off every month, so I have no issues with them.
And on average, people overspend on credit cards,18 %, compared to purchases with cash. So if you spent enough on credit to get two free international tickets, you probably could have bought them out of pocket with money to spare with what you would have save paying cash.
Mostly humble 1 Not me, I put everything on my credit card that I would have bought for cash anyway. People overspend using credit cards because they don't see the actual money, which would cause them to think twice. I don't fall for that. I don't buy things I don't need, I always look for deals. I see your point, but I am the exception to that 18%.
Yes you are! Thanks
Clutch Cargo, how long did it take you to earn those points? Of course your situation is unique to you, so I'm curious: could you have saved up the money in that amount of time? Do you have any debt you're paying off?
I have a car payment and a house payment, but no credit card debt. It can take me a year or so to build up those points. I just buy everything with my card and pay it off at the end of the month. I could save up the money, but the money I spent with the credit cards is money I would have spent anyway, I might as well get points for it.
Also to everyone reading this: don’t go too much out of your way to save a couple bucks here and there. Time is still a valuable asset
Love this guy!
What if your a business owner and you have to make constant purchases that a large amount? If your business has the money to pay for it, why not enjoy a free flight?

The Dave Ramsey Show you are amazing :)
This is an older vid, but so appropriate for today.
I love watching this stuff.
Love his rants! Some of us are fakes too. We look like nothing to be desired from the outside.
My dad used to say he can't wait until he is old enough to be a greater at Wal-Mart lol.
We should't think such people are rich. We should think they have a spending problem.
Gosh wish I learned financial stuff in high school!
So glad I discovered you at age 24.
9 PEOPLE are kens and barbies LOL😂😂😂
“Big hat, no cattle” 😂😂
Dave was so tickled by his own dad joke at the end. :P
Dave ramsey for president
Living like a pop star on McDonald’s wages is what we say in the Uk 🇬🇧. People should be honest with themselves and they would be able to sleep much better at night.
very well said sir...
Car payments pre Covid $500. Car payments post Covid & inflation $750.
That’s just STOOOPPIIDDDD!
I used to belong to the %70.
Now I belong to the %30.
Boy, oh boy, it feels really good!
A great book to read on this situation
is Stop Acting Rich by Thomas J. Stanley.
Common sense is at an all time low with heavy trading!! Gil Scott Heron was right in his song, "This Ain't Really Life"!!!
I hate that our society is set up by design to put you in debt for anything you need. Want a house? Take a loan. Want an education? Heres $50000, and you cant default on it. Everythings too expensive to live life without taking out loans of some sort.
Hey Dave, I just took out a loan to buy a goldfish and leased a lawnmower, how am I doing????
I love dave!
One thing about credit cards: I have only one, which I had to keep in order to rent a car if I needed to. I would love to get rid of it, but car rental places will NOT take my debit cards; either personal or business. I even offered them the $400 'hold fee' they take, in cash (they give it back when you return the car), but no, they won't do it. What do you do in a case like that? By the way, that card has a 'cap' of $900.
+Priyagold7
It's called self control. I have 8 credit cards and I'm debt free.
True. Yes, after being in debt in and after college, I have very good self control with it now. I treat it like a tarantula; don't touch it unless I need to, and I realize that if I mess with it more than I need to, it will bite me.
+Priyagold7 My husband and I are debt free and even before we stumbled across Dave Ramsey, we were living according to the way he says to do things. We both learned it from our parents and so much of it is common sense. The one thing I just can't do is get rid of a credit card. We really do use it for almost everything and then we pay it off every month. Neither of us likes to carry cash and we are so wary of using debit cards these days because of fraud. I guess we're lucky that we have self-control to not use our credit card for a lot of impulse purchases and to pay it off every month. Yes, it's a reward card and we get cash for it every month and no there isn't any annual fee, but Dave would say still not to have it because it leads to impulse purchases or spending more than you should ... still, we like having that card. And one reason is because of rental cars because I've also had trouble using a debit card for it. I know Dave says you can do it but I have also had them say no at the rental card counter, and also not being able to use it in Canada (we vacation there usually every year).
Yes, I tried everything, and no dice. I need to keep that card. Though, I do keep it capped off at 1800, and am thinking of reducing the credit to 900, I don't use it for anything but car rentals and on the internet (nervous about using my debit cards there). I agree with you...and as long as there's self-control, I don't see a problem.
+Priyagold7 I think Dave gives great advice and I refer to it all the time. I try to get other people to do what he says and I realize some people just can't keep their hands off their credit cards! I feel guilty sometimes about not practicing what he preaches about credit cards (because I think his advice is so spot on) so I'm glad to talk to someone else who feels the same way and understands! I'm sure he would "yell" at me for it but I'm keeping that credit card in my wallet. :) Have a great day!
he speaks facts
Fake it til you make it. That’s the new culture
I earned more than 10 plane tickets to Dominican republic using a credit card...how??...My friend used to have a deli store . charge 4000 every week...pay in full every month no interest...
Dave owns a McDonalds?!
Everyone lives paycheck to paycheck unless they die before payday.
2:18-2:26.; That is true...
Dave please tell us Specifically WHO we go to to invest our money for us ...so tgst we make these interest rates you’re talking about AND discuss the fees involved please.
So true his words listen and save
This man is financially prophetic!🤩
On my street. I got to thinking about my neighbors. It's a very sad thought to think that maybe, MAYBE a few may be debt free. I know one lady said her son bought her house for her. And there is a retired couple that I believe is mortgage free, but who knows. There is one house that was bought as investment property and the guy that owns it lives in the next subdivision. That MIGHT be debt free. There are several other rentals, but who knows if they are cash houses or just covering mortgages? I have a friend that owns several houses, and he has several mortgages he is juggling as well. DIY properties. I hope to build a home out in the country and either sell or rent this one. It seems to be a pretty good neighborhood for upscale rental. I bought low. Probably the smallest, least expensive house in the whole subdivision. Probably the only SMART thing I did do!!!
😂😂 Yes I know who they are but I won’t name them, but just like Dave… I’m so happy about it 🤣🤣🤣 happy I wasn’t the only one. Now they criticise me for, as they say “being tight with money” 😂😂 specially when I don’t owe them or anyone anything and I’m just here piling up money. I love being weird 😂
Common sense is at an all time low with heavy trading!
On my street lives several multi millionaires, they never show off. Neighbor who earn 4miljon € per year(here in Finland all peoples incomes are public) and he still return emty plastic bottles in the shop like all people, getting 20cent on 0,5l. bottle. No arrogance.
I would love for you to do a video on that $500 a month Roth IRA plan for giggles.
JDT738126 What is this?
JDT738126 Yes! I did a quick spreadsheet of this to see what interest rate it would take. It turns out 11.85% pa. 40 years looks like this:
End of year 10: $113,511
End of year 15: $245,763
End of year 20: $484,246
End of year 25: $914,293
End of year 30: $1,689,777
End of year 35: $3,088,174
End of year 40: 5,609,839
End of year 35: $3,077,568
End of year 40: $5,632,280
That's an expensive car. I then changed it up for a laugh to see the equivalent to what leasing does. For a typical lease of a $30,000 car (eg. a Mazda CX7) on a standard 3 year lease, with $2,000 upfront and $300 per month, repeated for 40 years. Throw that cash instead into a Roth IRA at 11.85% and the total after 40 years is...
$4,304,308.
And here's the real crazy part. Stop working after 45years and stop putting in your monthly $500 ... your money still keeps on doubling every 5 years!!!
45 years: $10,726,341
50 years: $19,528,164
55 years: $35,874,102
60 years: $65,214,018
That's quite a family legacy from saving $500 per month for 40 years. That cheap used Toyota Camry baby-steps car looks real comfortable now. Although, I think as a joke I'd make it a nice used Subaru Legacy!
Yep. The "Joneses" do no "have it together"
I used to want to compete against The Joneses, then I realized I don't care and they do NOT need another problem in the form of me trying to show them up. The Joneses already have a bi-polar son, a drinking daughter, a lost job, they don't need more problems.
Some of the old ppl work at Wal-Mart to have something to do lol
I'm 26. My job doesn't offer 401k match although I do still invest in it. How do I find a good retirement fund to begin investing in?
I would talk to Vanguard, they’re a good low cost advisor who can help get you started on creating an IRA based on your risk tolerance and length till retirement. Just keep this in mind, diversify your funds and keep the fees LOW! Any additional knowledge you get is all gravy.
Hope you figured something out by now!
This episode of full of quotable!
