  • David Cronenberg's seldom seen 1972 made-for-TV movie, 'Secret Weapons'.
It is six years into a future American civil war. A man has created a drug that enhances fighting skills. But will he give it to the theocratic government, or the rebels?

This is the first time I've seen this film so thanks. Leave it to the CBC. Canadian TV could be, and has been, so bizarrely experimental at times. I can't get over Lister Sinclair, a well respected announcer and reader on radio and TV, reading from a strange sci-fi post-apocalyptic script. Cronenberg basically did with a very small budget. Sci-fi has turned into polished CG explosions. But this early piece plays with the present as the future, which is what sic-fi is in essence anyways.

I wish we could go back to telling stories with storytelling.

I get some very loose Naked Lunch vibes w the main characters voice & affectation, the conspiracy/revolution theme & the jazzy soundtrack

So whatever happened to Ron Mlodzik? Cronenberg obviously liked him, since he appeared in Stereo, Crimes of the Future, Shivers and this.

If you are watching this, you might want to get a copy of ''Children of the New Flesh'' by Chris Kelso et. al - its a great book exploring Croneberg's early works and development. M.

This would have made a great Jerry Cornelius movie, a lot better than the actual one

The long-haired fellow bears an uncanny resemblance is look and manner to a young meth-head I shared a cell block with in the Santa Rosa County Jail. We got along great...until we didn't.

Any idea how to get ahold of the rest of this TV program? I've been combing the internet for the hours and can't find any more of it. Does the CBC have archival releases available for purchase somewhere?

As far as I know only the first episode was filmed. Whether this was a pilot that went nowhere or whether they had a commitment for more episodes I don't know... but this appears to be the only one ever filmed.

One can see from where the telepaths, telekinetics and anti-entertainment terrorists in his following movies came now.

lol the open endings I could always do without those. So this is one of those movies made for psychedelic drugs that you must be on something to truly understand anyways anyone else come here from the Rick and Morty reference? I havent watched the show really waiting forsomeone special to watch it with;') anyways this could have been a movie had the pacing been faster other than that too introspective
