As hard as it was for him to keep a job, allowing him to not work, was the beginning of the downfall. Any sense of stability, responsibility, and having to deal with life and dealing with people went out the window. Being able to live for free just increased his isolation, substance abuse, and inability to cope with life.

@ it’s not about working at Wendy’s. It’s about having a purpose, structure, having to deal with life, and gaining resilience to the negatives in that life. He has none of these things. They are especially important for neurodivergent individuals. He sits and rots (literally) in a trailer all day, ordering DoorDash and drinking booze.
