I'm 34 & I just realized I've been playing this game wrong since I was in the 7th grade. A classmate taught me how to play it so I never read the directions LOL They told me whenever you land in a pit, that has other stone, you pick up all of those stones and keep going around the board until you're at an empty pit. I also didn't know you could steal the opponents stones
For realll I'm watching this thinking have I been playing the game wrong the whole time😭 I don't know about y'all but this game kinda seems boring the way they explained it.
Agreed. Once she landed on her empty pit, she should have taken the stones from the opposite pit and her own. All three stones should have been put into her home pit.
4:52 what is your opponent not steal. As according to the rules as you were just saying if you land on your side on an empty cup and there are stones in the opposing sides you get to capture them and or steal them and put them into your mancala you don't get to go again after that but you get a capture all those stones that might be there
This changes everything. I've been playing so wrong for years
Right? My mom and i played mandala where if you land in any cups with stones in them you keep going until you land in an empty cup.
@@The_Wolverine2023 there is two variations of the game, the one you played, and the one demonstrated in the video. Neither is wrong

This is one of my favorite videos on youtube
Around the 4:45 mark, why did your opponent not steal your stones on that turn. They waited until their next move

i think its because they wanted to steal the one next to it which had way more to put in their mancala, thats what i was thinking. :)
But is that allowed?
@@Melkimund no, that's cheating
@@Melkimund Nah they should have stole those two stones maybe they forgot or something
4:39 he ended by placing his stone in an empty cup on his side and full cup on your side; why did he not steal the stones from your side?
That's a good point. They made a mistake
Def should’ve been a capture
Dude i can finally beat my inner demons at mancala. Thanks!
I like the stall move at the end
4:34 skipped your 5th cup
My mom is about to “introduce” me to this game…
How did it go?
Is there a variation that doesnt give a crazy adv to the first player?
At 4:36 the “one stone that got around” should have captured the 2 opposite; as such the entire rest of the game is ruined.
You are right, but the player can also win by any chance. The opponent has only 2 moves, the player will not put stone on her side.
How come when she came around and ended, did she not get a steal?
Why does the rules that came in the box says to go clockwise?
Thanks fam, very interesting
Awesome Beyond Awesome!

Watched this to finally beat my girlfriend
I'm so stubborn that i wouldve not made that easy steal @ the end and just stalled out to force him to give me more stones 😂
Thanks👏👏👏
Do you take the stone if you just moved it into an empty spot on your side the the spot next to it on your opponent’s side is also empty?
No, it just stays on the board if there are no stones to steal on the other side.
Wow I’ve never heard of this way of play
On 4:40 he is landing on his 6th empty cup and he should take yours 2 stones that r in yours 1st cup
Now I’m ready to challenge my grandson 😅
