This is such an informative and data-backed video. Top notch. I anecdotally have noticed the same things. I have nestled into some Victor raws in the $50-100 range .
Love this vid! I'm trying to really scale up my business right now so this is inspiring to see. You hit the nail on the head with the Wemby market. I've had success grading the $20-$40 stuff of his and not buying it right when it's released. I've been buying base prizms for around $35 recently and can consistently get $120 out of them as PSA 10's.
Yup that’s the sweet spot. New release comes out, don’t even look at it for a week or two. Let the guppies flock to it while everything depreciates. At that point prices are a bit more stable and you can do really well
I don't have the bankroll to buy high end cards so I only focus on grading low end cards. I've focused on CJ Stroud and Anthony Richardson and the returns have been great. Break even-ish on 9's and nice returns on 10's. Lower end rookies for desirable players are easy to sell.
Great video only been selling on ebay for about 6 months going ok so far almost up to 500 sales, very informative and helpful video. I live about 45 min north of you up in payson
I bought 50 PSA 9s on EBay, cracked them all and re-subbed them. 42% came back Gems, however only made ROI of 5%, probably because PSA 10 prices are coming down and the time lag to get your subs back. Also bought 50 raw cards off EBay and 58% Gemmed. But actually had negative ROI, why, because of the raw auction prices I had to pay which are overinflated. Just food for thought.
I am with ya I just switched to all my saved searches being Brady manning kobe Jordan and Ichiro older cards and just be patient and not buying as much compared to getting hammered on modern😊
Yeah, ROI seems to be dropping each year as market has fallen dramatically in the past 5 yrs. Add in taxes to be paid, and you can barely making anything (given the amount of money being spent on acquiring inventory). Is it still worth it?
Right now it is, but I will say, if we get 2-3 years of bad rookie classes, combined with the mass print runs, we could see the card market go through a world of hurt. We are lucky we have Wemby, Stroud, Skenes, Caitlin, Ohtani and Judge keeping interest somewhat high. Having said that, with sports, there always seems to be someone that everybody is talking about and I suspect that will be the case as time goes on
It' is tough out there... I've seen so many crazy auctions. Prospecting seems really down. Bowman 1sts just don't carry like they used to. Good news though, Wyatt Lankford is on a heater right now so you should start seeing some bounce back. I picked him up in fantasy as someone actually dropped him. Thanks again for your transparency, you are a real one. How are you managing your raw? Are you using a card scanner? Also, now much of the market do you think is now on Whatnot that they have auctions & buy it now listings?
I’ve noticed prospecting is indeed really down and I’m okay with this. More so the prospecting market is “unintelligent.” They keep flocking to the Bowman release headliners like Crews when the resume never supports them as a player who should be bought let alone at the prices they command. Good news is some quality names can and do fly under the radar. As for scanner and software, I have recently started using card dealer pro and I’m sold. It’s not perfect, but the things you can do with it to scale are incredible. The scale isn’t necessarily for gross sales for me but I can move $1-$10 cards super easy where as before I would never have been able to dedicate the time to list stuff which is so cheap given the time. Will be making a vid on it.
Thoughts on PSA Vault to Ebay Auction and eventually also eBay BIN? Will you use their service. Fee aren't too bad compare to selling it yourself via your eBay store.
I created a vid and decided not to upload it breaking down my thoughts. TLDR, yhe difference for me is the 2-3% difference in fees which on $500k sales amounts to $10k-$15k, so aside from the sweet spot after $1,000, I don’t see myself using it. The big flaw is its auction only which is straight up wholesaling inventory. I do much better with BIN/BO
@@TylerShort I believe BIN option will rollout soon too. I don’t do the volume or sales numbers you got but I know I “promote” my listing at 5% so I’ll give 2-3% if it means I don’t have to deal with shipping or CS lol just my opinion and wanted your thoughts on it. I think that would be a great video to cover.
The first draft that I made was VERY harsh on this deal. Mainly because I don’t think the fee structure was advantageous but the more I’ve thought about it, it actually is a good model and tradeoff, so I’ll see if I can revise and push out a vid on my thoughts
Good breakdown and yea most of my problems is psa grades my last orders were 20% and 50% gem on same type cards so grader ruined basically a grand or more for me. Couple qs. Did u setup sales tax exempt forms and if so are they easy and do u have to renew each year. Expensive ? Worth it.? And then after a YTD roi. You have to pay gain taxes state and fed too so that also is crushing right ? I find this type business stuff one of the main benefits is the tax write offs but so hard to make 50k+ gains on grading per year 😅
Yes to all questions. I have an SCorp which does not immediately provide tax exempt status as I still have to file with the state for a tax exempt certificate which I did for the first time this year. That was a massive boost to the ROI that if I hadn’t done, would be costing me tens of thousands of dollars. It’s basically saving me 6% off the top of my gross income. As to the second question about cap gains. Yes, blend of short term and long term based on if I sold over a year or under a year
So you're ebay over PWCC?? Really enjoyed your breakdown. Im more into vintage due to the volatility of modern but id love to have your spreadsheets to track my stuff well as i embark on this journey.
I actually think it does. Eventually the supply will dry up and we will hit a nominal level of cards hitting the market that is able to be absorbed at a stable price level. 2018 Luka is a prime example. His stuff hit a bottom eventually. Hard to project when that bottom will be but there’s the flip side where if he makes strides like most think he will, there could be a bump as the supply pressure disappears
25:23 I have said the same. “I make money in cards. I don’t enjoy it like I did. But I’m making money. I have a few ideas to make more. Interested in chatting?
I've stopped wasting my time on base profit can be made with 10s but 9s are useless now days on base cards for the most part. I stick with the if I can't break even on a 9 don't grade it.
This is such an informative and data-backed video. Top notch. I anecdotally have noticed the same things. I have nestled into some Victor raws in the $50-100 range .
That’s a great place to be! Big market size. Nobody wants the cheapies and the big cards are too speculated. I love that mid tier valie

Glad to see you back! Video idea now that you sell all your own inventory. Shipping and inventory system/organization etc. Love the content!
I like this video way more than your others. Nice work.
This is knowledge gold thank you for the detailed breakdown and your insights.
Thank you sir!

Do you think you will start flipping psa vault to ebay directly now?
Great video only been selling on ebay for about 6 months going ok so far almost up to 500 sales, very informative and helpful video. I live about 45 min north of you up in payson
Awesome! Keep it up and I love Payson. I drove through there several times this past winter on the way to Sho Low. Loved the skiing there.
There are few people who can brag about making money and not be unlikeable. This guy isn’t one of them
My man! Appreciate the comment my good sir
@@TylerShortpretty sure he’s saying you’re unlikeable lol
This man has mad hustle. Keep grinding bro.
how you feel about the psa consignment ? sending some of them to auction through them?
I'm still wondering if we have to pay grading fees if we're going to consign
Maintaining the books is a skill most of us need work on, thanks for the content.
So besides eBay, where else are you buying your raw cards? I thought I heard in the beginning you were going to mention this.
Only auction big names and raw rookie autos. If you auction anything else, you're going to be below market.
Good info and vid!

That’s incredible! I have an experiment that I’ll be running soon that’s gonna be similar. Not at that volume but significant enough.
Also depends on the grader. I also had an order of 50 cracked 9s and only 33% came back gems, and I think that is breakeven at best.
Bro, I really appreciate your videos..learning alot wish we could link up.. live in Waddell Az

How do you pull your PURCHASES in a report from EBay? It seems they don’t want you to scrape that data.

Yup! All eBay over the consignments or auction houses. Just more eyeballs relative to fees
@TylerShort so more eyeballs at ebay vs PWCC or other places? Could I snag a working copy of your spreadsheet?
Wish I saw this last week. Just took a bath on a couple auctions 😢
My condolences bro. Auctions are no bueno
Shouts out to learning
He’s right about the race to the bottom with Wemby. Wonder if that changes if the next NBA draft class is a dud.

Your the gent who bought the red mojo of Skenes from me a few weeks ago eh?
I am indeed! Very surprised it went off for the price it did. That was a heck of a deal
Agree....auctions not recommeded to sell!!!
Auctions are no bueno unless the item is hot or new
lot of risk for doing all the work then after goverment gets there tax cut ROI be even lower

Been grading base cards that 10 forever and making my $20-30 a slab after fees it's still viable for sure
Yup that’s a sweet spot. Mine is averaging right around $28 or so bux per slab graded in profit. So not horrible, could be better could be worse
