„Invalid“ was a legit term in germany for people with Handicaps for the longest time. I‘m Not even sure It’s not used in that manner anymore. Always rubbed me the wrong way
It's the same word in Russian and it's the same word in English. Invalid means physically impaired. That's it. I don't understand why all these words are fking dying - can't describe reality anymore without some idiot floating above all of us by their incredible fake virtue. I'll keep using that word. It describes exactly what someone is. Don't conform to these morons that tell you what you can and cannot say when you are saying exactly what you want to fking say.
@@Unlyricallyrics The word is pronounced differently. The emphasis is in a different place. That makes the distinction quite apparent. As for the word having negative connotation - it is negative. Having a disability is negative. But in no way are you invalid (not valid) by being one except if used in the context of the military where being hurt makes you literally not a valid soldier anymore and you are exempt from serving (it was used in the military for that purpose so both meanings work there). And this meaning came first. The version we use mostly today as "not valid" like entering the wrong password or whatever, is new. So they found a new use for the word and now they try to erase the old one because the new one makes the old offensive. Grow a fking pair. Context is all that matters. If you don't want to apply context, don't talk to me about what words I can and cannot use. Invalid is a perfectly fine and reasonable way to call someone with a physical impairment. It's not rude. It's exact. Just like using the word "gay" to mean "really, really happy" or whatever. It's archaic but it still works since we never invented an alternative word for that. It just so happened to merge with the flamboyant homosexual stereotype so it was basically hijacked and added another meaning. Use the words you want. If someone has a problem, well, it's their problem. Give people the benefit of the doubt or leave. Nobody can force me or anyone how to communicate, especially when my communication is perfectly objectively descriptive. If you are in a wheelchair, calling you an invalid is perfectly fine (emphasis on the 'i', btw). There is no confusion. I don't like George Carlin but he has an incredible comedy routine about people killing the English language. Highly recommend you check it out.
