MATSYA PURAN being the most recent one means the VAIVASVAT MANU is the 7th Manu out of total 14 Manus in One Kalpa ...
And the deluge happened in this 7th Manu and so VISHNU BHAGWAAN had to incarnate as a MATSYA AVATAR
Around 11 to 12 thousand years ago there was ice age all over the world due to a meteorite hitting the GreenLand. Matsya Purana is the most recent one as in atleast 8 to 9 thousand years old. Before that everything was written down to the most minute of precision but after the ice from the ice age began to melt, everything started drowing including the written notes by Rishis.
Hence the Rishi's decided that its better to transmit the knowledge from person to person rather than from book to person. Because of its practicality.

The Difference between Lord Rama Avatar & Lord Krishna Avatar is :
Ravana did a penance to Lord Brahma and when Lord Brahma appeared asked him for a boon, Ravana asked for Eternal life (that is , without death for ever) and Lord Brahma replied that it is not possible , and that Lord Brahma Himself has a life which needs to end , so , asked Ravana to ask for something else. Then, Ravana thought himself very intelligent ( or , rather , it is his fate) and asked Lord Brahma a boon that he should not die in the hands of any animal or God , except Nar & Vaanar [i.e. Human & Monkey] , as he thought he can easily win over Human / Monkey. and Lord Brahma gave him that boon.
That is why, Lord vishnu , when taken up His Avatar as Lord Rama , He had to play within the bounds of a Human being, He did "behave" exactly like a Human being .(1)He cried a lot like a normal human being , when His wife Maa Sita was abducted. (2)He took the help of Vaanaraas ,the Monkey-like beings for the search of Maa Sita. [In fact, when Lord Vishnu took the Avatar of Lord Rama, all the Dieties took the avataras as Vaanaras.For Example , Lord Vishnu's wife Maa MahaLakshmi took the Avatar of Maa Sita, Lord Siva took the Avatar of Lord Hanuman, Lord Indra took the Avatar of Vali , Lord Surya took the Avatar of Lord Sugreeva etc.].
So, inspite of knowing fully well and always being aware of the facts Lord Rama, Maa Sita etc. behaved exactly like human beings, otherwise, if Rama shows his powers as Lord Vishnu then, Ravana cannot be killed because he has a boon that he cannot be killed by any animal or being other than Human and Vaanara.
So, for example , Lord Rama can easily know that Maa Sita is going to be fine, as she is Maa MahaLakshmi Herself , when Sita was abducted . However , Rama cried like a normal Human being , did a search for Her ,inspite of Himself being Lord MahaVishnu Himself , who is all-pervading etc. Noone can escape from the vision of Lord MahaVishnu.Right?
So, it is Ravana who designed how The Lord has to come to kill him. That is how Lord Vishnu appeared as a Normal Human being , as Lord Rama.
[In fact, we also "design our lives especially , our death" (to an extent ---- because we have "karma" and God's Will as well) by doing certain deeds - good as well as bad. ]
Similar situation happened by Narakasura , who asked for a boon that (1)he should not be killed by any species -(2)neither at day nor at night -(3)neither inside a house - nor outside a house -(4)not be killed by any weapon etc.
Accordingly, Lord MahaVishnu had to take a Hybrid Form - Narasimha - Human form with Lion Head,
Because , Lord Narasimha is neither a complete Human nor a complete Lion.
As Narakasura asked for a boon not to be killed by any species , and hence, Lord Narasimha is NOT any specific species , He is the combination of two - Lion and Human .
And, since he did not ask for "No Death" by a Hybrid form like this, he was killed by Lord Narasimha Swamy,
And, he was killed neither at day nor at night - but in between , at dawn.
And, he was not killed inside a room nor outside a room - exactly on the doorstep . which is neither in nor outside of a house.
And , he was not killed by any weapon - but by the nails of Lord LakshmiNarasimha Swamy.
Lord Krishna did NOT have these restrictions. He "exhibited"His powers right from His Childhood ,as is evident from His Birth itself.Infact, Lor d Krishna appeared with 4 hands as Lord Vishnu when He took Birth as Lord Krishna and immediately turned into a normal two-handed Human form , after telling His Dad Vasudeva to take Him to Nand gaav etc.
So , what all these say is : If one does sins [ Harm to the Society], then - howmany ever ways he tries to escape and granted , he will have to face the conequences.

All the Puranas are of other Kalpas except Matsya Purana which is of this Kalpa. 1 Kalpa = 14 Manvantaras + 15 Manvantara Sandhyas (setting of the Manvantaras) = 4.32 billion years.
Some of the Puranas are of previous Creation.
A brief synopsis on the Time Scale in Sanatan Dharma:
Vedas has been compiled 28 times (the first was assembled by Swayambhu Manu). For 28 Yugas within each Manvantaras (1 Manvantara = Age of Manu).
So what is Manvantara? Lets break it down:
Each Manvantara has 71 Yugas. What are the Yugas? The Yugas are as follows:
Krita Yuga, Treta Yuga, Dwapara Yuga and Kali Yuga. We are currently in Kali Yuga.
Kali Yuga lasts for 432,000 years. (we are currently in Kali Yuga) - Dharma, symbolized as a bull, is on 1 leg. Adharma is at its peak because of the Demon Kali (who was earlier born as the 100 Kauravas - he was split at birth into 100 pieces - Duryodhana being the eldest).
Dvapara Yuga lasts for 864,000 years. - Dharma is on 2 legs. Adharma and Dharma are at War with each other because of the Demon Dvapara (Demon Dvapara was Shakuni in Mahabharata. It was his Yuga).
Treta Yuga lasts for 1,296,000 years - Dharma is on 3 legs. Dharma overpowers Adharma (The Age of Lord Ram).
Krita Yuga lasts for 1,728,000 years - Dharma is firmly standing on all 4 legs. Peak of Dharma. (The Golden Age where everything is Satvik, with Rajas and Tamas being at its lowest point. Humans live for tens of thousands of years and are constantly praising the Brahman/Paramaatma. Situated in near complete knowledge of Creation - these are the nearly perfect Aatmas. They are always doing Sadhana/Tapasya. They will eventually become eligible for Moksha which can only be granted by Lord Vishnu).
71 of these Yugas = 1 Manvantara viz. 306,720,000 years.
1 Kalpa = 14 Manvantaras + 15 Manvantara Sandhyas (setting of the Manvantaras) = 4.32 billion years.
1 Kalpa is 1 day for Brahma. The Pralaya or Dissolution of Creation is 1 night of Brahma which also has same length as a Kalpa: 4.32 billion years. This Dissolution is Prakritik which means it is normal Destruction that happens on planets, mergers of galaxies or even parts of the Creation/Universes getting destroyed. So this type of Pralaya happens every 4.32 + 4.32 = 8.64 Billion years.
A year of Brahma according to Hindu scriptures is 360 Brahma days. That means 311.04 trillion years. 12 months of Brahma is called 1 Brahma Year.
After 100 such Brahma years is the Mahapralaya or the Great Dissolution of Creation. Everything goes back into Singularity (called as Hiranyagarbha or the Golden Womb) and from there a new Creation starts (Big Bang).
50 Brahma Days have passed and we are in the Shveta-Varaha Kalpa. So in Brahma's timescale, he is still a baby when it comes to our Universe.
100 Brahma years = 1 day of Lord Vishnu. When he is awake, the Creation exists in the material realm. Before he goes back to sleep, the Creation is destroyed and all Aatmas go inside him and that becomes the Singularity. The Aatmas are in eternal bliss for the entire night of Lord Vishnu (which is again 100 Brahma years). Then when he wakes, the Creation starts again with Brahma coming out of his navel and starting a completely new Creation, with each Aatma following suit and coming out of his navel too (the start of the Creation is depicted as Brahma being attached to Lord Vishnu through the navel).

The Saptarishis or the seven sages of ancient India made the 7 oldest earth civilizations Indo-Sumerian, Egyptian, Persian, Greek, Maya, Chinese civilization. The Indus Valley was closest to Sumerian Mesopotamia. All the groups of the same used to preserve the rishi names in the old civilization and there was language difference in the names of the same deities.
The Deluge is followed by Manu (see the Epic of Gilgamesh), and the sages and kings are listed. After the Holocaust, the sages are considered human, and in some texts they are referred to as Ummanu, not as Apakallu.
The word apakallu (as well as abgal) is also used as a symbol of wisdom or knowledge for kings and gods.
Another use of the word apakallu is when referring to idols used in apotropic rituals; These sculptures include fish-man hybrids representing the seven sages, but also include bird-headed figures and other figures.
Apakalu reappears in a later work by Berossus describing Babylonia, who is also described as fish-men sent by the gods to impart knowledge to the people. In Berossus, Ones (a variant of Unna) is said to have taught the people the creation myth of Annulis.

The name Manu from my understanding is the name/title given to the progenitor of Man Kind! So Manu is not just a name but also a responsibility! Basically is the name given to a person who is righteous, pure, compassionate, kind, strong and worthy of responsibility! Such person becomes the progenitor of Man Kind. There have been at least 7 Manus! First Manu was first Human created by God Brahma equivalent to Adam from Bible, his name was Swayambhu Manu! And rest of the Manus happened to be the progenitor of Man Kind after massive apocalypse like situation.
Although the first manu/Swayambhu Manu's name actually happened to be Manu.
In most of lndians languages we call human as Manushya (descendants of Manu)! Even in English and many other European languages we have word Man or Human (hu - man ) for people.
It's quite similar to the concept of ancient Romans who called all their Emperors as Caesar although the founder's actual name happened to be Julius Caesar! The rest of the Emperors were named as Caesar after Julius Caesar.
So the first Manu happened to be Swayambhu Manu.
Satyavrata Manu here becomes the progenitor of Man Kind after apocalypse. And yes Noah's story is strikingly similar to Satyavrata Manu's story. In fact according to me it is exactly similar to Noah except for little variation.
Both Swayambhu (Equivalent of Adam) and Satyavrata (Equivalent of Noah) happen to be Manu according to our scripture!
