A Transformers trend started in 2007 with Bumblebee has had fans hoping that the little Autobot scout would stop losing his voice? The question is, should it come to an end?

I mean, the "radio talk" can be used humorously which is pretty great at times, but Bumblebee does deserve his own voice. Hopefully they'll find a way to bring back Bumblebee's voice in the new Transformers movies, if the Bumblebee movie does get a sequel that is.

Fingers crossed that it does. The first three minutes alone was better than most of the Bay-verse, and I wouldn't complain if Hailee Steinfeld reprised her role. Plus, the Cybertronion design was such a glowup.

Here’s my view on it. It was kinda cute in the first few movies (ignoring the inconsistency with the ending of the first film) and it worked in Prime, because it created and interesting dynamic between the team, with Ratchet feeling guilty about not being able to fix it, Smokescreen not understanding why it still bothered Bumblebee, and him not being able to communicate with most of the humans, and the buzzing wasn’t annoying. But in Cyberverse, when they went back to the radio talking thing, it was annoying because it wasn’t actually anything from a radio, it was just a bunch of fake commercials. And it didn’t even make sense. Since he could talk on the Arc

In prime, I thought it was a great decision to have Bee lose his voice. It accomplished three core things for the character:
    1. It meant his connection to Raph was deeper and more personal, as Raph came from a large family where he never felt heard.
    2. It makes Bee seem more venerable. His wound is a constant reminder that he can be hurt and lose things. Megatron removed his means of communication and expression, damaging his relationship to the rest of the world.
    3. The buzzing noise was an easy way to make him endearing and explain how he got his name. It's miles better than the radio talking, as cool as the idea seems. (Bumblebee 2018 did a good job with it though)
I think it's a core part of his character now, but if it is gonna be done, it has to be done tastefully and with relevance to his character, not just because thats how he is now.

Bumblebee losing his voice has been done to death, as have the jokes around it. And it was only done decently three times:
Prime utilized it much better than the movie that spawned it, but other than some communication issues didn't use it to handicap the character much. And when he DID get his voice back, it was epic.
Cyberverse treating it as an effect of his amnesia and a bit of PTSD.
The Bumblebee movie 1) actually showed how it happened as part of his backstory and 2) used it better story wise and humor wise (communication misunderstandings) and used it to help the bonding between him and Charlie.
PS: Ratchet making entirely meta jokes about it happening AGAIN in Fall of Cybertron is funny as heck, but that's about as far as the jokes need to go. Hasbro needs to stop falling back on this quirk just because they can.

Yes, he looks like Prowl, and "the Streaks", but also his personslity in the movies I think is more like Sideswipe's, who also had a Camaro altmode in 2001, and also he had really similar head with the round eyes with the visor-like parts, those sideparts with the vents, the faceplate, the horns, and that middle part on the top of his head(Silverstreak also had that form), and that whole talking through radio thing was used for Wreck-Gar originally, as well as those spiky wheel thingies he had in tf4.Also, he's too big.But he's yellow at least, so there's that.

I feel like it's a matter of what they do with it and actually letting him have his voice once he gets it back. His muteness affects multiple relationships in Prime, and it does have story consequences. When he finally speaks and doesn't even realize it is such a perfect moment; it shows that he was talking the whole time he just couldn't be understood. It really works because he kept his voice through the movie and the next series. When his muteness is just the background for a joke or it doesn't actually affect any of the characters, then it feels like a crutch to avoid giving him more personality.

"Then it can be a cinematic universe."
Unfortunately only two transformers movies so far have been made with the purpose of being in an extended universe (TLK and BB) and neither have had sequels yet. Otherwise every other film has been made with the purpose of just being its own film, except for DOTM which was intended to be a complete conclusion to a movie trilogy. This is why Megatron keeps coming back from the dead only to be a secondary villain.

I wanna say no, because while it is a REALLY good concept to show how much the war can physically and mentally scar a character. I do think that this shouldn't be Bumblebee's constant character trait, especially since the idea of Bumblebee not having a voice came from the 2007 Transformer's movie and has pretty much stayed since. Which again, isn't a bad concept it works, especially with how well it was written in his character in TFP and Bumblebee (2018).
But at this point I think that Bumblebee being voice impaired/mute should really only be done if it affects the overall story and helps him grow as a character. But at the same time try to avoid overusing the same idea because by that point it becomes overuse and stale. I think there should be future shows, games, movies that do feature a mute Bumblebee just as much as a verbal Bumblebee. There should be a balance between the two as long as the execution is done right.

Oh wait no, they're still there, able to be watched and enjoyed any time I please to do so. From the beginning all the way to the end of the cartoon. That's how it seems to be for all transformers shows in fact, as each new show has a new version of the characters as the old one has concluded and it doesn't make sense to just repeat the same story or constantly add new characters that are different from the old ones, yet still so similar that they're just almost the same. It's also not like I absolutely have to watch Transformers content that has done something to the characters that I don't like or disagree with.

Awesome and informative video RP, I 100% agree about the negative impact of the bumblebee keeps on losing his voice trope.
Bumblebee should absolutely not always lose his voice. It's a trope that pissed me off the moment it began. Didn't help that the trope began with the first bayformers movie. I never understood why it became a trend, it added nothing to his character to have him talking throttle radio. I preferred in G1 where bumblebee had a voice and talked normally, it helped give him personality and individuality. I was disappointed that the bumblebee movie continued the trend but it was part of the studio plan to have the movie be a prequel to the bayformers movies

Yeah I'm hoping we still get the Final Bayformer Universe movie & that Bumblebee gets to keep his voice for most of it. I hated that crappy Bumblebee Movie & want it to stay a prequel to Bayformers! After the Final Battle with Quintessa & Unicron, we should get a reboot where Bumblebee never loses his voice!

WaterKirby1994 well there friend. It is clear we have very different views on the Michael bay transformers movies. I absolutely despise them and you seem not to. Nothing wrong with that, the world would be a less interesting place if we all had the same opinions on things.
Naturally I have no desire to see the cliffhanger to the last knight resolved as I never felt Bay was a good fit for transformers as I don't think he has an adequate appreciation of the source material and his vision of what transformers should be has never ever appealed to me. I'm not a fan of his other films or his directorial style in general.
Personally I enjoyed Bumblebee a lot more than any other live action transformers movies I've seen. It's not perfect, there are certainly things I think could have been done better although I think the studios approach to hedge their bets and maybe have it be a prequel harmed it. For one it meant they couldn't have megatron appear in the cybertron battle because it would create continuity problems (as if bayformers were ever sticklers for continuity lol). Anyway that's all I really have to say about that. I'm happy to agree to disagree as long as we can keep it civil and chill.

@@unstoppableExodia I thought Last Knight was the best Live Action Transformers film because it was actually decent. Bumblebee Movie was trying to be another cheesy 80s movie like Breakfast Club & those kinds of movies & I hated that.
Part of what there was to like about Last Knight was how it felt like it was setting up for something like the Gen1 animated Transformers movie. It would have been interesting to see how it would have pulled off Unicron. Essentially I'm saying without that final film we're being cheated into having crappy live action films that won't lead anywhere.

    • @unstoppableExodia
      @unstoppableExodia 5 лет назад

WaterKirby1994 well Bumblebee was set in 1987 so it was totally appropriate for it to have nods to pop culture from the 80s. I liked how they handled that. I liked Hailee Steinfeld's performance in that movie, she was believable without going over the top like shia lebouf. She's a sugar honey, shame she's all up into going to hillsong church but oh well. In fact the human characters in the Michael bay movies were one of the worst parts of those movies for me. They were either too full on as caricatures or they were dull military men. In bumblebee John Cena's character had a line where he questioned that the robots asking them to trust them were called the decepticons. It was a funny and humanizing piece of dialogue something I didn't really get in the Michael bay movies.
I have massive doubts that the last knight was setting up a G1 live action movie. That just sounds like wishful thinking. A G1 live action movie is all I ever wanted from them but bay was never going to do that. He had disavowed G1 from the moment he began working on that first film. I know you're going to say they were going to have Unicron in it but they were going to have earth be Unicron and that just doesn't work on so many levels. But the biggest issue with that is it means you can't see Unicron transform into robot mode without it destroying civilization on earth. And even if they found a way to do that it wouldn't be the Unicron from the 1986 movie. That Unicron was a terrifying concept. A Unicron that somehow had been dormant for billions of years and became a life hosting planet isn't anywhere near as terrifying or compelling. It would beg the question of how geologists never noticed that the earth was a giant transformer when they researched the earth's core. Scientists on earth in reality know a lot about what the earth is made of, how they layers of it work, how tectonic plates work and how their movements influence earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and tsunami's and as far as I can see that would not work with the idea of earth being Unicron. And the lengths they would have to go to to try and make it work don't seem worthwhile when a simpler option would be to simply do what the animated movie did. That was simpler but it worked, really well and it hasn't been done in cgi.
But it's ok because it still hasn't been done in cgi yet. So if Hasbro go full reboot, learn from the MCU and apply things from the source material that fans would love to seen in a live action/cgi movie then we could be treated to a proper G1 inspired transformers movie, the movie we all deserve.

    • @WaterKirby1994
      @WaterKirby1994 5 лет назад

@@unstoppableExodia This is Hasbro though they don't understand what the fans want. If they were going to apply things people want we would have gotten Cheetor back long ago. Last Knight had a few Gen1 callbacks in it & an Armada reference at the start for like a minute.
Now of course I don't mean it being exactly like Gen1's movie, more of a weird fusion of it with Prime's Unicron. We'll probably see Unicron using the powers it showed in Prime. I admit I was disappointed by Last Knight's choice to use Earth Unicron.
We likely saw 1 of 5 bodies Quintessa has destroyed in Last Knight, however we may get more than that from her like Quintessons that serve her. Now we could potentially get timetravel in Movie 6 so that Earth isn't destroyed by Unicron upon awakening after that actually happens.
I expect it likely for Optimus Prime to sacrifice himself to defeat Unicron & save Earth. As well as for him to make either Bumblebee or HotRod leader if not possibly both of them. For some reason I get the feeling Quintessa will outlive Unicron with her last body potentially surviving the movie.

I prefer bumblebee with a voice than a stupid radio because the radio voice is getting old and Hasbro better stop giving bumblebee the radio voice and stop making bumblebee losing his memories because it only works once and maybe the second time but not the third time because it gets old really fast. also Hasbro if you see this please read this because I agree with the youtube channel RodimusPrimal on this. The memory loss will get old just like the radio voice. Bumblebee is my favorite transformers character and I hope he stay around for generations to come.

I would prefer it if Bumblebee Movie was a crappy prequel to the already flawed cinematic universe. I don't want another continuity where Bumblebee loses his voice, I want a sequel to Last Knight where Bumblebee has his voice back for the final battle against Unicron & Quintessa! I want a movie reboot if it happens to be done right & not use the cliche of Bumblebee losing his voice. If Hasbro intends to go through with a crappy new movie continuity, they should at least approve of an anime series where Bumblebee keeps his VA from the War For Cybertron & Fall of Cybertron games. Todd Haberkorn could possibly make a great Starscream in the English Dub of said anime.

Bumblebee is my favorite number two next to Optimus Prime I picture Bumblebee as a little brother to Optimus Prime those two are awesome.
If Hasbro and Takara Tomy wants the fans to be happy with their characters they should keep Bumblebee voice his real voice and let the voice actor do Bee voice and keep him talking in all Transformers shows, videos games and movies too because fans and me want to hear Bumblebee talking and his real his real voice they should do that in all Transformers shows, t.v, movies and video games forever and they should keep the voice actor talking as Bumblebee voice actor too.
Dan Gilvezan is awesome in the show, G1 movie and come back do the voice in Transformers Devastation, Will Friedle is really awesome and amazing doing Bumblebee voice in Transformers Prime, TF Rescue Bots and 2015 Robots in Disguise show too.
Thank you for the video Rodimus Primal I hope Hasbro listen to the Bumblebee fans about keep B-127 aka Bumblebee voice and the voice actor keep him talking is a good thing I subscribe I love Bumblebee so much and my sister too nice work.

I quite like Bumblebee just in general. The loss of voice definitely worked, but he should have his voice back. I'm glad that in Prime he didn't have a voice, but managed to get it back and delivered one of the most badass lines I've ever heard. Totally worth it. And I kinda like the radio transmission thing, but I think they could've offered a better explanation for why he got his voice back in the last knight.

I can see both sides: It's a interesting concept for sure and gives a interesting play on the character, but at the same time, I agree that because it goes on for so long, both in the movies and in the cartoons inspired by it, I feel that it would be better if the loss of his voice was limited to single episode, maybe two at max so you can still have him loose his voice if you want to, but doesn't take forever to resolve like it does currently and can have bee be voiced for the majority of the show
