    I repaired one a long time ago. The owner had dropped it and caused the magnet spot welds to break. Needed a replacement motor from eBay which I remember being £600 🙄

    It could be interesting if you looked into the Grand Seiko 9F85, or one of the other Quartz 9F movements, also with trimmer. What an amazing movement with the gear and oil ceiled in a little room with no air.

    I’ve been working my way through your 17 (!!!) quartz technology videos. So much information and detailed explanations that I haven’t found anywhere else. Thank you.
    If a client brings in a Bulova 262 kHz movement for service, I’d love to see a video.

    There once was a watch in Grootschermer,
    That got fixed by a white-coat Beschermer.
    It was covered in grease and scraches galore,
    Which caused it to be ticking no more,
    It had friction and drag and lagged lubrication,
    But after repair it caused quite a sensation.

    For the sake of having diversity in my „watch-collection“, I kept some old quartz (regular ones) watches, mechanical and a Zentra electronic which is a mixture of both as well as a tuning fork watch. But that one is really crazy. It already LOOKS delicate 🤣

    Kalle, great vid. I sold mine 2 yrs ago due to service costs rising, projected lack of parts and Rolex technicians dwindling to do overhauls. Great watch, Rolex Canada did the servicing and always did a spectacular job for the 13 yrs that I owned it. I had it serviced twice.
    Regards,
    Chris

    • @pieterjlansbergen6988
      @pieterjlansbergen6988 Месяц назад

      Serviced twice in 13 years? At Rolex prices? That’s outrageous! Grand Seiko foresees 50 year without any servicing for their caliber 9fxx series.
      Only a new battery every 3 years. Makes you really smile at Rolex fans.. 😂
      Please note Seiko declares precision is +-10 s/y but mine is doing much better. (About 2-3 s/y)

    • @kresimirpleic
      @kresimirpleic Месяц назад +2

      That is not true. The 50 year service interval myth for GS quartz is widely known to be a mistranslation. They absolutely don't have 50 year service intervals.

    • @pieterjlansbergen6988
      @pieterjlansbergen6988 29 дней назад

      @@kresimirpleic I think that considering the amount of Seiko Quartz watches from the 80s that are still working perfectly after running for almost 40 years, expecting the GS 9F series with their “sealed structure” to perform for a few more years (up to fifty) perfectly reasonable. Wether it’s an official statement by Seiko or just a “myth” IMHO is quite irrelevant. These calibers are just that good.

    Kalle, would you like to take a look at a Seiko 5S21 movement? It's a parallel development of the Spring drive but came from the other way around: It's a quartz movement linked to a spiral spring and hydraulic buffer so it sweeps without any stepping motion.

    The old Hamilton Electric movements also basically run backwards similar to this (the electromagnet drives the motion of the balance wheel, and that motion drives the gear train). Pre-quartz technology (the timing is still regulated by a balance wheel).

    Con 33 años se me cayo en el baño mi Oysterquartz. Lo lleve yo mismo a la centrar de España a reparar. Cuando yo mismo fui a recogerlo pregunté durante cuanto tiempo habra piezas para estos raros relojesvy me dijeron: "siempre. Si Rolex no tiene una pieza la vuelve a fabricar".
    Me quedé tranquilo, pues son para que mis nietos lo conserven para sus hijos.

    You are incorrect in saying no quartz movements today have a trimmer. The Grand Seiko 9F quartz movement has a trimmer.

    With these semi electronic movements First buy or borrow a GOOD quality scope that way you know you do not have any electronics problems ( you should must know electronics fundamentals ) or your lost ! unfortunately most watchmakers have problems with plugging a toaster🤔

    I bought a real nice Toureau quartz watch, and a cheap battery killed it. If it had been mechanical. it would be still working!
    I will never buy a quartz watch again for my collection!

    At the end I didn’t understand whether this movement brings any technical value with this solution or it is to be considered just a hyped piece of junk. Considering how little popular this Oyster-quartz is, I guess it’s the latter.

      Yo tengo un 5035. Y un 5055. Teniendo el cuenta que cuando salieron estos calibres hace ya cas!ni medio siglo (1975) eran los más exactos no externamente controlados del mundo (1 segundo al mes) yo creo que fué una proeza de exactitud en su momento, como lo es hoy en día el calibre 0100 de Citizen.
      Por no hablar, que habría que hablar, de que los que dudamos entre la tecnologia del cuarzo o la mecánica, un híbrido es la única solución para llevar ambas en la muñeca.

      A mi me cobraron menos de 1000 por una reparación con las piezas, engrase, control 15 dias y pulido y cepillado del armis.Baratiiiisimo teniendo en cuenta que estos relojes tan solo necesitan revisión cada 40-50 años para controlar el envejecimiento del cuarzo.
      Considero a todos los Oysterquartz como los relojes con el mantenimiento más barato.
