  • How to replace the windshield trim seal on the E92 coupes including 320d 323i 320i 330i 325i 335i 328i and M3 models. This is only relevant for the coupe models. The sedans do use a different seal design.
    The moulds are generally quite cheap genuine through BMW under $100AUD and even under $50USD in the states.

    I just cracked my windshield on my e92 using this DIY. I wish you guys would have specified about the risk of cracking the windshield when using the “up and out” & “twist and pull” method you recommend.

    • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  4 года назад +2

      Dude that sucks so much. Did you work out why it cracked if you were twisting it away from the screen as you pulled it up? I have only done 4 of these now, but never had any issues. But that said i dont put any force on the edge of the glass. Is there a chance your screen had been replaced and it might have been sitting closer to the metal of the car body, which in turn would make twisting it more difficult.

    Would the front window trimming be the same as the rear because I need both but I can’t find if it’s universal?

    • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  Год назад +1

      The rear is definitely different. The front sort of clips on the to glass. Where the rear sits between the glass and the body. I have seen people use generic trim on the rear. Which you can't do with the front.

    • @bavarianhero

      @@ZeroTo60Tube I was going to use permatex gasket sealer, only because the corners needs it the most. I have seen a body shop do that for a costumer before. Only because I need to save a buck. I finally figured out the last part of the puzzle for the 335i it’s the negative battery cable it’s called IBS. I’m going to buy it but at this point I’m debating wether or not I should buy the window seals as well.

  • @simonhaycocks

    I dont know why i haven't youtubed this before and realised it can be done with the screen in place. I also presumed the trim would be stupidly expensive but its not, about £40 on ebay!
    Mine needs doing because its gone all brittle and for some reason the crows round here seem to like the taste of rubber and have pecked away at the fat part at the bottom corners of the screen! Weird.
    I do have a couple of chips in my screen so not sure if it will pass it's annual test (MOT) next time. Does anybody know if the seal trim is renewed when a new screen is fitted?

    • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  4 года назад +1

      Yes definitely, they only have a one use adhesive on them, so if they change the screen they will fit a new one of these trims.

  • @sipmeister3611
    @sipmeister3611 Год назад

    well done

  • @TonyBrQ
    @TonyBrQ 4 года назад

    Interesting to see this. The equivalent trim on my car is still fine, but I am concerned at the point where it joins the trim which runs across the bottom edge of the screen. The bottom edge trim sits on top of the side trim, but leaves a gap, and loads of crud and moisture ends up in the void underneath the corner of the screen, which seems like a recipe for rust. It is just an overlap and not a tight/snug fit. Have you ever changed this bottom edge trim? Should I use some adhesive to close and seal this overlap point?

    • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  4 года назад +1

      I haven’t changed the lower trim. But I don’t think that needs to seal. To be fair even this trim is just to keep dust and dirt out of the channel. It’s not an actual seal. The lower one you can see will just be for looks, I would repair it however, as long as it’s not something that might be hard to remove in the future

    • @TonyBrQ
      @TonyBrQ 2 года назад

      @@ZeroTo60Tube - just a follow-up thank you for the really clear and useful explanation of the process to replace this trim. I finally (yes, 2 years later..) got around to doing this over the weekend, and it was really easy once you understand the potential pitfalls. It took me less than 2 hours start/finish with the biggest task being to ensure that all the old gunk was properly cleaned out. The new trim looks so much better than the tired old trim. The only thing that is not quite perfect is that one of the top corners does not seem to have settled quite as close to the surface as the other side (by a couple of mm) but I did not want to risk damaging the trim, or the screen by forcing it down closer to the surface.
      At the bottom end of each side, I think I will apply some rubber adhesive to ensure that everything is water tight as a simple push fit does not achieve that.
      Thanks again, guys!
