This is awesome! - I was planning on a similar setup myself.. One thing you might want to look into is creating a 2nd camera in unreal and have it facing backwards and connecting them back to back in unreal engine. Then you can use DMX “pixel mapping” to sample and send light that is shining onto the talent in the game engine drive the led pixels in your real world lights. Then you are pretty much “front-projecting” the colors in real time onto your real world subjects and can mix in real world lighting with contact lighting from the game. This might do well to get your talent to fit more into the virtual world.. and make lighting easier in the real world.

We need a masterclass for indie filmmakers doing virtual production on budget. A course that covers everything from studio setup to production. I think such course is in demand as more people like me wish to get into virtual production but there aren't much learning materials for this topic. Thanks for this video and hope you guys consider my request.

Main thing first you have to realize the virtual production is not a career, its a medium which is used to create films , Ads , gaming stuff etc. Virtual production is the future obviously but it depends on what job role you want to choose to work with Virtual production technology whether its like you wanna work as Unreal engine artist, cinematographer, motion capture artist etc. You first have to figure out the particular role which suits your skills because there are various department which work under virtual production. For more knowledge you can surely do you research and figure out what suits you best. Thank you.@@bendigerirohith7267

Two suggestions to achieve darker shadows in the rear projection: Have you tried an ALR (Ambient Light Rejecting) screen? And have you tried adding more ambient light to the foreground, then crushing all the shadows in post? Also, for a window scene like this, it might actually be affordable to use a large TV rather than a projector.

As a musician I view this as when Pro Tools arrived on the scene. Originally designed for TV production it quickly found a home with the small home music studio niche. I believe it absolutely helped give many musicians a platform to create excellent quality musical recordings on a small budget. The best is yet to come from small / indie movie producers.

When we got to use an LED wall on a music video shoot, the first issue we had was huge moire patterns as we did a slow push. It was infuriating. Had to tilt the camera around 30 degrees and use wider shots to compensate. Was a nightmare. It was good for depth of field shots where the LED screen was out of focus. Early days but that still haunts me to this day re LEDs.

We did however use screens in our feature film to do something similar in a more classic way without a moving camera and with a static background to match it and it was quite nice compared to our VFX skills. But of course with some drawbacks. It's refreshing to be able to do in camera VFX. Let's hope it gets more common and more of beautiful stories get to be told along the way.

Great first attempt at this, but I can't help but notice the track isn't perfect. All of the shots have some jittering in the foreground tree and it could be a number of things causing this. It would be cool if you guys did a follow up with a larger background to troubleshoot the tracking. I can't tell if it is something that can be solved with some tweaking or a limitation of the Vive tech. I do know real Virtual Production stages use more advanced tracking tech and timecode synced GPUs to reduce lag.
I work in VFX and if I delivered a track like that it would be sent back. That all being said there is a lot of potential here.

It's due to projecting on white wall and the lack of contrast vs a high end LEDWall. £
It might be interesting to see how the projector contrast react on grey screen (like used in certain home cinema), or by lighting the scene with a higher blackpoint (room tone / diffused light from above) and crushing the black in post production.
