    So regarding the ASL, basically simon (their ceo) had recently learned that deaf individuals enjoy music as well with some feeling the bass. So with that information which he thought was cool, he purposely added extreme bass in "Grl gvng". However he also had the song translated by an asl interpreter then choreographed (seen in Chisa's solo at the end of the song). After the Asl translation was added to the choreography, simon checked with asl interpreters to make sure no meaning was lost.

    It is understandable that people are confused as to whether xg is kpop or not. Simon, the producer of xg said, "From now on, rather than defining kpop culture as kpop or not kpop, I want it to take root as a culture and become more diverse, and for groups like xg to be accepted"

    • @divx1001
      @divx1001 Год назад +5

      I think the entire discussion about this often misses a very important thing said by Simon: XG is an idol group. Idol industry as a whole doesn't just belong to Korea, it started with Japan but thanks to Korea it's diffused in all of Asia (and still going strong). So, while XG don't call themselves kpop (for a number of understandable reasons) they never denied to be an idol group trained in Korea and Japan. So, rather than defining if they're kpop or not, I think that we can all agree that they're part of the idol industry together with a lot of Jpop and Kpop stars. At the end of the day an American pop artist can hardly be called an idol, and XG never tried to deny being idols. People kind of forget that kpop as an industry is related specifically to idol industry. There are plenty of Korean pop artists that are not idols and wouldn't be called kpop although lately the line has been getting blurrier and blurrier.

      @KPopwithKhadija  Год назад +4

      YES! This is kind of exactly where my question comes from, though. They're definitely idols!! BUT, he didn't choose to have them train, debut, promote, etc. in the j-pop industry which they totally could have. He didn't take them to China to be part of the c-pop industry. He didn't go to the Philippines to be in the p-pop industry. He brought them to Korea, had them train at a Korean company, work with k-pop industry professionals, debut in the k-pop market, promote in the k-pop market (Korean music shows, variety shows, etc.). He brought them INTO the k-pop market. He could have promoted them directly to the US market and just said, "they're an international pop group."
      I think k-pop isn't about nationality or language. It's an industry & a market, like any other. That's shown by how many Korean artists DON'T fit in the k-pop realm - they aren't part of the industry. If you're working within that industry (and profiting mainly off that connection), then why try to insist you're something "bigger" than that? It's okay to be a k-pop group that is ALSO hugely successful internationally. 🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️

    I loved your input about XG being as precise as a dance crew. As a former urban dancer who would watch dance competitions I completely understand you when you mention that there's a big difference with a group that is dancer FIRST before singing/rapping. It's actually the main reason why I became shocked and consumed by them! It's not just learning how to memorize choreo but adding your own energy, personality, style, and charisma to the choreo in ADDITION to being synchronized as a team (often difficult to do).

    • @KPopwithKhadija
      @KPopwithKhadija  Год назад +4

      YESSSS! Okay! Yes! Cuz so many comments people are disagreeing with that statement and saying they're all unique, but I feel like if you're a dancer, you get it. They ARE unique but they're still perfectly synchronized. THAT IS NOT EASY! Ugh, I love them. It was definitely the dance practices that got me hooked, for sure!

      @@KPopwithKhadija Those elements are usually diffiult to explain to non-dancers so I don't blame people honestly! It's usually a discourse you would engage in within the dance communities and takes time to learn how to judge the best of the best

    I agree they’re amazing and awesome. Extremely talented and do their best to please the fans. But we as fans should be thoughtful. We can’t realistically expect them to learn every language and every version of sign language. There are not enough hours in a lifetime to do all that. I think this is why they went with English for their MVs because more people know English across the world. Same with going with ASL versus other versions. And never forget how much they hustle for us. Most of their yiu tube content isn’t even monitized. They don’t get any money for their tape, move or box series.

    • @KPopwithKhadija
      @KPopwithKhadija  Год назад +1

      Haha I don't think anyone was ACTUALLY expecting them to learn sign language from every country. They are totally making a good move creating music in English & ASL to reach international audiences!
      I think XG (and Simon) are really clever about the content they create and they do work so hard. But, I wouldn't say it's totally selfless - RUclips videos aren't monetized but it's better than any marketing dollars they would otherwise spend hahaha. They're saving money by using RUclips, even if the videos are demonetized. They hustle and work hard, but the music industry is still business at the bottom line lmao

    This video also uses visual distortion on parts where there is bass and music distortion to cue deaf individuals on what is happening in the sound of the music. So cool!

    Isn't it all just pop. We can stop dividing/labeling by country? Music is music and it shouldn't matter or be defined by the country it was made in, unless it's traditional, I guess.

    • @mariekandi6914
      @mariekandi6914 Год назад +1

      THIS. Like we’re pushing for diversity and acculturation so does it matter what letter goes before the word pop?? Music is supposed to connect us together 😂

    • @KPopwithKhadija
      @KPopwithKhadija  Год назад

      Music is an INTERNATIONAL language! You're totally right about that!! I think the question is less about dividing based on nationality and more about acknowledging the INDUSTRY they're working in. K-pop is a huge industry that has been developed over decades. They're working in and profiting off that industry. So why do they want to separate themselves from it? That's my question.

      "-Fly (adjective) - This term meaning "sharp, alert, with it," first appeared in American slang 200 years ago and was widely popularized by African-American and hip-hop culture during the 1970s and 1980s" 🤪💚

    actually the question about xg has been answered in detail by simon in their documentary episode xx. although he said xg is x pop, simon also said ,however, xg is still part of kpop system

    • @KPopwithKhadija
      @KPopwithKhadija  Год назад +1

      Lol yessssss, that was what sparked the conversation. The Episode XX reaction is up on Patreon, so I've been chatting with various people about this. I know he SAID they're x-pop. But they're in the k-pop system, so my question is what makes a group k-pop?
      Is it being Korean? Cuz WayV & BLACKSWAN say "no."
      Is it Korean lyrics? Cuz WayV and so many groups that release English songs say "no."
      What is it, then? Is it being part of the k-pop system? Cuz if that's it... then isn't that what they're doing? They aren't promoting primarily in the US market... they're in Korea.
      Does my question make sense?
