We all need more Vermont history. I can’t believe how many years I’ve studied the history of everywhere else but my home state!

I'm from Michigan but I'm working on improving a paper I wrote for a writing sample for graduate school. The paper won best paper at an international history conference but I feel like I could improve the paper by learning more about Vermont's history rather than just the specific frame I was looking at. But from what I've captured about the state over the last year of study, it is really a weird state. And I do not mean that in a bad way; I just mean that it's very unlike any other state in the union.

John Deere was born in Rutland, not Middlebury. He attended Middlebury College.
