  • July 28, 2024; Let's get an up to the minute corn, soybean and fall food plot preparation update from Pro Staffer Phil's Southern Missouri farm in the Ozarks, and then we'll get an update from our Southern Missouri farm as well for the soybeans that I no till drilled a few weeks ago and my fall food plot site preparations as well. As you will see Pro Staffer Phil has the knack for great food plots and that will show, but keep in mind that he is months ahead of me as he has actually lived here for several months now and we are literally still in the process of moving. But I feel pretty good overall about my soybean food plots considering that I have had very limited time to invest in the soybean food plots for deer! But I think they are doing pretty good all things considered!
    This is a massive life undertaking and we'd love to have you join us for all of the adventures as this time we will be documenting and sharing the entire journey! Thank you! Here is some background from the last few episodes in case you are new to our channel:

      Yes sir thanks! I know Phil's are 100x better but under the circumstances I can only do so much. I am pretty overwhelmed with this whole move and all that comes with it. But hopefully soon we can sell the IL farm and get settled and moving ahead in MO!

    That was pretty unusual weather. I didn't think it rained in the desert this time of year...lol

      Yeah we've been getting a LOT of rain! Not sure if it is strange, but I think it is very unusual for this late into summer already! I've heard the hay farmers are having a banner year so just a lucky spring for us food plotters!

    Lookin good Kap! Things don’t always go as planned but it is great to see that you don’t give up. You figure out what went wrong, learn and move on to another solution. Too many just give up these days. Keep up the good work!

      Thanks man I appreciate that! Yeah I wish I could be much farther along but that is just my life right now. I can't keep up until we get fully moved and IL farm sells! But I do have hope! I am always willing to learn and adapt! Stay tuned and take care, thanks

    Looks like you’ll both have decent plots for the fall, will be good to get the after action report this winter on what went well and the plans to adapt and overcome. Did Phil use his Tar River drill this year? How’s it handle that rocky Ozark soil?

    • @KapperOutdoors2.0
      @KapperOutdoors2.0  Месяц назад

      I know he is way ahead of my but I have hope! I can only do so much! Yes he worked up the dirt, hit a lot of rocks and bent his tar river up planting, but it was obviously a success! I am working on trying to get a not till drill but can't swing it right now. But even though the dirt is rocky it is pretty good dirt! Way better than Southern IL pure clay!!

      Thanks Jeff I appreciate that! I am just a one man show, and half the man I used to be! LOL Add in we are still moving from IL and maintaining 2 farms, 5 hours apart that is a lot to keep up with! But once I get settled things will keep moving ahead!!

    I’m glad you got comped for the beans did you get any soil tests ? How’s the PH ? Keep plugging along can’t wait to see what’s next ! Garden Gnome approves!

      I did not get around to a soil test this spring. But I believe since our hay guy was happy with the production I'm guessing the last hay guy was keeping up with it. So far so good on the hay beans, but I have to get my clethodim from Illinois!! I searched all over Rolla today and no one local carries it here!! Ugghh so I can't spray until after my next trip to IL later this week. Thanks man! BTW is this the 'gnome' that hangs with Schick??

    Still trying to figure out what your plan is to narrow down the area to draw the deer in. Food plots all over the place are good for growing and keeping deer, but you know you'll have to pull them into range consistently and predicably out of the 650 acres. That's going to be tough to do when the deer are free to come out in a dozen different food plots. Any ideas and thoughts??

    • @KapperOutdoors2.0
      @KapperOutdoors2.0  Месяц назад

      One step at a time. Food is number one priority. If you have enough food, you bring in an inordinate number of deer. Then you work on patterns. But since I only hunt the food sources, that really narrows it down quickly. You just have to use skill and patience in HOW you hunt food as to not burn the place up!!

    Nice tour round both properties 👍 not knowing your weather patterns maybe direct drilling into the sward is way to go preserve what moisture is in the soil 🤔 would not spraying till crops are much more established not benefit the planted crops, over here we plant cover crops for winter cover and nitrogen fixing and just leave field to grow naturally 🙄 but thats agricultural nothing like what you are doing 👌👌

    • @KapperOutdoors2.0
      @KapperOutdoors2.0  Месяц назад

      Yes you are correct a no till drill would be best. But neither of us have one yet. So we do have to rely on old school tillage. It is on my list to get a no till drill but they are very expensive. And yep farmers here plant wheat and winter cover crops in the fields for just what you mention, plus they harvest the wheat in late spring. Good info from the other side of the pond!
