OMG just seen this. I watched this live on BBC as a teen, holding my cassette recorder up to the small black and white TV speaker to record James playing variations on la tyrolian from Arban's Cornet Method....and then tried to replicate it. It’s wonderful seeing it again....and in colour! Thanks for transforming your video recording to RUclips.

Gosh I love seeing their faces today. My dad, Ray Woodfield often took me to rehearsals. I loved it! I have always loved watching people doing what they are good at. I'm no musician, but I know quality. Some of them are dead now. Some sadly disgraced. But genius will be what it is.

Do you know James and the Versatile Brass with my dad Ray Woodfield are the group who you hear playing "the typewriter" as intro to the news quiz? My dad says they have speeded it up a bit . But not much!

just occurred to me. There must be somewhere out there a huge repertoire of original works and arrangments written by various people associated with the JSVB which are lying dormant played by, well, nobody because the group has never been replicated since its demise.

Barry Poupard ... hi Barry the whole library was passed on after the group played its last concert in 2015...

Phillipe Cook Ray is living and working in Norway again. He was supposed to be taking Easington at the Spring Festival until CV19 came along, shame as I was looking forward to working with him again. Maybe next year

1970s. I think circa 1975, possibly from a BBC recording?

The cornet has that undertone of squeaky, always prefer the trumpet!
