They used to make huge flower pots and clay stumps (salt glazed) at the Lee Clay Products Factory in Clearfield, Kentucky, until WWII. Their clay stumps were used as lawn and garden ornaments. I think that oval shaped dish with the holes in it is the top off a hand soap dish. The holes allowed the water to run off the bar of hand soap into a dish below (so the bar of hand soap would not get soft and nasty).
I've only recently discovered this little gem of a channel and I've now subscribed to DSoS, Living the Skye Life, and She Walks, She Paints. I just adore you, Sarah and Jack Spaniels! Thanks for your amazing, wholesome, comforting and fun content!
Hi Penny - yeah - me too! It's my favourite plain jar so far. Found lots of similar ones, but only that one in that shade - beautiful! We just filmed our first chanterelle mushroom haul - it'll feature soon. Willie :)
Fun fact, most of the UK insulators I collect were made in the Stoke potteries as well. I love that little patterned jug! I'd have a small plant in that as-is. Also that big pipe junction that looks like a tree would definitely get plants in it too 😂 Professional ceramic repairers chase the crack with a dremel and fill them like you said. I love seeing your resto's! Gorgeous cylinders too!
Could the clay tree thingie have something to do with eaves and roof drainage? Visible, so made to be less ugly? Never seen anything like it in the States.
Hi Linda - exactly! It's always a surprise. I mean, sure you always find local bottles, Bovrils, plain medicines etc... but it's the surprises that this tip throws out that keeps me going back so often. I can't see me ever tiring of thrill of the surprise element! I think Sarah listed that soap dish on our Etsy, if you wanted to take a look at it? Willie :)
I'll tell you a secret.....at 'The History Bit' theme, I wait, and only sing the 'T', just to amuse myself 😂 Edit - I do sing the theme tune though lol
What a good son you are too give your Mom her favorite bottle! I am glad I don't live in Scotland! If I did there wouldn't babe a house big enough for all the bottles! It was s fantastic dig! Please be careful and stay safe! ❤❤
Thanks Mary. She's happy with the 3 I already gave her. I think we'll be selling any more we find. She always gets first refusal though! And she's probably going to read these comments, so - hi mum if you are! As for bottles - we recently had to sell 4 boxes of larger bottles, as they're expensive to mail. It's a relief to find a local antique shop that buys them. My collection is getting out of hand too! Ha! You stay safe too. Willie :)
Never fails to amaze me the number of great finds. I love watching you numbers grow. Your hunts are very worthy so it is no surprise to see the numbers climb. Hugs to the family from Pensacola Florida USA.
Hi Sadie - glad you could join us on another adventure! Thanks for the words of encouragement! I love the word Pensacola - never been there, but I have been to South Beach many years ago! Willie :)
I love watching your videos and watching your joy. Your land is beautiful and I long to see it first hand but seeing it through your lens and eyes is such a treat. that beach reminded me of the beach shown in Paul McCartney's video of Mull of Kintyre. Thank you so very much for sharing your Treasures with us.
Thanks Willie, love the huge stoneware crock pot belter! My mouth is watering looking at all the beautiful mushrooms you and Sarah foraged. Jack did not seem very impressed however 😊
Wonderful finds! I love the mineral water bottles, they are beautiful. The little cream pot is gorgeous and the clay pipe fascinating, I have never heard of 'The order of free gardeners'. Great video, it was fun watching Jack racing around 😀💗 x
Thanks Amanda - it was a fun dig! The order of free gardeners is a local masonic order. They have plaques on some older houses in Kirkcaldy. I always wondered what it was about! Jack is always like that - he's the most energetic dog in the world I think! Willie :)
That big crock is a belter! And I know you'll make the crack invisible. I also like the wee valentine jars your mum likes, and I've read the comments, there are so many possibilities what the tree trunk thing could be. Those mushrooms looked awesome, gave me a craving for some, but I dont have any......I'll get some tomorrow lol. Thanks for another great video, and congratulations on the milestone! 🤗
What a lovely time you had digging mushies, with the most splendid Master Jack. The tree trunk thingie looks to be a Victorian strawberry/trailing plant planter, very $ on sale sites.
I think that the shiny little treacle-glazed pot was my fave today. You found so many goodies on this dig…lovely blob-top bottles were nice. Some fine dancing/mime today😄👍
I have never heard of this type of mushroom but then I live in Kansas USA so that isn't strange. I love our morel mushrooms that grow wild here in the spring! If it wasn't for all of the Ticks I would hunt them myself but we have to depend on family members to feel sorry for us. I HATE ticks! I love watching you guys!
I am a new subsciber and first and foremost I so appreciate that you carry a brush! Beautiful bottles and thank you so much for showing them clean and sparkling with a little history. Lovely video and Gorgeous Pup! Thank you for taking us along
Awesome video Willie, you definitely found some belters, then you got yummy mushrooms and Jack Spaniel got his swim 😂😂 he just loves his swims and sticks. Take care guys and thank you very much for sharing 👍👏❤️
I loved this video! I collect pottery in America and my mother and grandmother collected for before me! Seeing that gorgeous little cream pot and that big container jar so so wonderful! Your soil really kept them so nice! Have a wonderful meal with those awesome mushrooms!
Thanks Eleanor - for commenting and for your story. Sounds like you had a great upbringing! I used to collect pottery in my gran's garden when I was little. I thought it was treasure! Looking back now, there must have been a bottle dump nearby, but back then I didn't know what that was! Willie :)
Beautiful big finds today. I really liked the dark aqua jar. And the big crock. I am always a bit surprised at how different everything looks when all cleaned up. The colors and shine after being in the ground🤔, wow. The mushrooms looked delicious.
I'm wondering if this is a ceramic planter? I have seen ones similar to this that have hanging plants in them. Of course they were bigger and had stands. Whatever it is it would make a neat planter any way!
Hi from Melbourne, Australia. I love the care you take when bottle digging. And having a brush to clean them off. I find it interesting how much broken pottery there usually is but so many bottles stay relatively intact. The big crockpot reminds of my Nanna. She used to keep her flour and sugar etc in them. The mice couldn’t get in.
Yay! I was wondering when you'd take us foraging again. Beautiful mushrooms, did you prepare them as you did the others? You had some beautiful bottle finds too. I love when Sarah and Jack join you. Sir Jack always makes me smile, he's way cute! Have a great week you three!
Hi Julianne - we've just been on another mushroom foray, so it will be out soon! We prepared them simply on buttered toast this time. Both Jack and Sarah are in this week's episode... plus a VERY special guest! Hope you can join us on Sunday! Hope you're having a great week. Willie :)
Just subscribed, fabulous video, the roll top jar was beautiful, love that master ink and the stoneware jar. Love the foraging, you can't beat the taste of freash wild mushrooms.
I just discovered you last week! What a lucky find for me… and those mushrooms just made my mouth water. I’ve never found a mushroom I didn’t like… they look so tasty.❤❤❤❤
Congrats on reaching 7000 subbies!!!! That ceramic tree thing was SO weird! The scenery was terrific during the foraging for mushrooms! They looked yummy🥰🥰
The Crock and inks are a wonderful find as with all your bottles and finds! I was curious about the ceramic tree stump, although I couldn't find one like you found, I saw several that were actually planters! A very cool unique find! Love the mushroom hunt ! I wonder if you are aware of where you found those mushrooms there was wild carrot "aka" Queens anne's lace and wild radishes and young nettle which is all edible as well as young clevers! ahh I am a wild forager too :)
That stump thing looks like a 19thc garden seat, found one stamped '1873'. I suspect it may have been made by W Hudspith Haltwhistle South Tyne Works but can't be sure. They used to make strawberry planters in the shape of tree trunks.
When I saw that ceramic watzit come out of the ground, I remembered one episode of the Great Pottery Throw Down competition where they had to made ceramic toilets, & wondered if it had something to do with new indoor plumbing!---That bullet likely wasn't meant to be fired if it had a wooden cap? But still, I was thinking it was drilled to make a pendant to be worn, as a souvenir.---Did either of you itch after collecting mushrooms nestled deep in the nettles?!
We're hoping that you'll find places to dig on the mainland since there's apparently not much on Skye in the way of old bottles. We really love to watch what you find in old tips,
The ceramic tree stump is faux bois or fake wood. It’s usually made of concrete. I believe it was a planter. The oval ceramic dish was probably a soap dish and would be sitting on top of a fitted bowl.
"What a crock!" It is for sure a dandy find. Good haul this time, congrats! I used to hunt mushrooms all the time but lve never heard if that particular one. Must not grow in Oregon. 😂😂 Nice collection of the roons, gonna make for a great meal. Thanks for sharing your adventures Willie, Sarah and wee Jack.
Thanks Tina - it was a good dig and mushroom hunt! Glad you could join us again. We just filmed a chanterelle hunt too - will be out soon! A pleasure to share. Willie :)

Your ceramic tree stump could be part of a Victorian garden feature strawberry planter
Thanks Margot - great suggestion. Willie :)
Jack is such a good boy! He was waiting patiently by the gate for you so he he could get in the water.

Brilliant video Willie and Sarah. The last piece with Jack was lovely. Thanks. Now off to see Sarah.
It's becoming my favorite sing along.
Fantastic! Thanks! Just a bit of fun - glad others are enjoying it. Willie :)
Love the green roll neck jar. The mushrooms looked delicious 🍄

Great suggestion - would look good in that setting. Willie :)
Hmmm 🤔😏.... I definitely enjoyed the treasure hunt.
It was fun! Thanks for watching. Willie :)
Amazing finds love the cream pot and crock
Thanks Dawn - always nice to let these things see daylight again! The crock pot is now fully restored - video coming soon. Willie :)
I enjoyed your hunt, but your dog is so cute and funny 😆 he really loves the water and beache👍😊💜
Love all the finds especially the three color ink bottle and the tiny cream pot .
I love how you never know what will come out of the tip! Absolutely adore the little soap dish.
Hi Linda - exactly! It's always a surprise. I mean, sure you always find local bottles, Bovrils, plain medicines etc... but it's the surprises that this tip throws out that keeps me going back so often. I can't see me ever tiring of thrill of the surprise element!

The cream pot is beautiful! So is the soap dish.
Anyone else singing along at the beginning? I love to!!
I'll tell you a secret.....at 'The History Bit' theme, I wait, and only sing the 'T', just to amuse myself 😂
Edit - I do sing the theme tune though lol
Thanks Linda - was always the plan to make it an 'ear worm'! Willie :)

19:11 - the drainer for a soap dish - or just possibly for one of those butter dishes where the butter sat above ice.
Great suggestions - thanks! Willie :)
The wooden bullet is most likely a dummy drill round. They were used for training and to check a weapon was functioning properly without firing it.
Oh cool - thanks David! Willie :)
Wonderful finds! I love the mineral water bottles, they are beautiful. The little cream pot is gorgeous and the clay pipe fascinating, I have never heard of 'The order of free gardeners'. Great video, it was fun watching Jack racing around 😀💗 x

Loveeee! Your digs🤗❤ makes giggle and so much fun! 😊
That mini pot is gorgeous. Worth working in the rain
Love the crock! Can’t wait to see it fixed. Awesome sparkling water bottles.
What a beautiful area of Scotland you're vacationing in. Love your finds.
Thanks Marguerite - it's the north coast - Farr Bay. We love it there! Willie :)
I start bopping when your music starts.
Loved the little cream pot, the colour of the glaze looks great
That was funny watching the sped up digging of the ceramic tree trunk!
That big crock is a belter! And I know you'll make the crack invisible. you live in paradise. I love your videos. your wife is an artist. hugs from Brazil to you.
that treetrunk thing would make a nice planter
Thanks Carlo - I think that's maybe what it was originally - some are suggesting this. Willie :)
I think your first t-shirt will have a picture of a bottle with the words, " I just found this" on it. Another good hunt this week.
The ceramic tree trunk would look awesome in a garden with plants growing out of it 👍🙏🙏
Love the huge ceramic tree, just so unique. Thank you for this great video with great finds. Love watching Jack. Cheers.
Nice bottles today . Thanks for sharing .say Hi to Sarah✌️
I am a new subsciber and first and foremost I so appreciate that you carry a brush! Beautiful bottles and thank you so much for showing them clean and sparkling with a little history. Lovely video and Gorgeous Pup! Thank you for taking us along

Loved the foraging bit...I've missed seeing the foraging videos! I love all your videos!
Love the little treacle glaze I'm hopefully off out digging again this week and would love to find one of those a definite better 😊
I'm wondering if this is a ceramic planter? I have seen ones similar to this that have hanging plants in them. Of course they were bigger and had stands. Whatever it is it would make a neat planter any way!
Thanks Mary - a few have suggested this. Makes lots of sense! Willie :)
Loved the little cream and the large crock! 💕💕WV🇺🇸
Thanks Lynette - us too! The crock is now fully restored. It'll be in a video soon. Willie :)
26:45 excellent noodle arms!

That was fun, thanks!
That tree stump has me confused too. Maybe it was used as a planter or a prop for holding something up. Lovely little creamer. Keep on boogieing.
I would say the fake tree trunk is table legs. Three legs base for a small rounded top table.
That lucky seven bottle works.amazing finds!
Love watching .
Fantastic finds!!! I love the large crock pot, it is a better. 🥰🌻🐕🇺🇸
Lovely finds again. I loved the cream pot too.

Congrats on 7000 Willie!! I've loved watching your channel grow and grow! Another cracking video!!
Willie, I believe it is a strainer for a soap dish....

Thanks Linda - that crock is now fully restored! It will feature in a video soon. Willie :)

I just discovered you last week! What a lucky find for me… and those mushrooms just made my mouth water. I’ve never found a mushroom I didn’t like… they look so tasty.❤❤❤❤
The oval thing with holes in to me looks like a soap dish. The holes helped to let it dry faster after using.
More excellent finds and I see you're branching out with the types of finds😁
Love Captain Jack Spa-niel.
Some great finds again. 👏👏 loved the big jars.
Congrats on reaching 7000 subbies!!!! That ceramic tree thing was SO weird! The scenery was terrific during the foraging for mushrooms! They looked yummy🥰🥰

I am in ❤️ with Jack!!
⛏️🎸👍 nice dig !!!!!
I love the green jar!
Always enjoyable. Thanks. Suzy AZ USA
Can't wait to see you fix the crock
I did the belter dance along with you..
That stump thing looks like a 19thc garden seat, found one stamped '1873'. I suspect it may have been made by W Hudspith Haltwhistle South Tyne Works but can't be sure. They used to make strawberry planters in the shape of tree trunks.

Take elastic bands, to put around the cracked things for taking them home
We're hoping that you'll find places to dig on the mainland since there's apparently not much on Skye in the way of old bottles. We really love to watch what you find in old tips,
Great jug!!! Blessings
So wish I could something like this here!
Aaaaah, que hermosa playa

What a fun dig!
Really enjoyed your video some cracking finds
Thank you.
🎉✨Congratulations on 7,000 subscribers!✨🎉
Yer wee dance always makes me laugh. I think, what if someone was near by watching you. Lol
very large tree vase
"What a crock!" It is for sure a dandy find. Good haul this time, congrats! I used to hunt mushrooms all the time but lve never heard if that particular one. Looking around I found something called sewer tile pottery sculpture that resembles what you found
Could the ceramic tree stump be part of a multiple drainage junction or drain trap?
Thanks - that's a great suggestion! Willie :)
Loving the video .is the ceramic tree a Christmas tree stand .
