    You’re welcome buddy. The display is from Luxdisplay and we had a little issue with this and my original one I have in my W-30 you borrowed earlier. Some of Roland’s gear can be a bit difficult and need individual adjustments, but Stephen told me that the new display he’s got in production will be more universal and fit a lot more of brands and models. I’ll be making a tutorial on the installation of that once I get one soon. :)

      Luxdisplay on ebay? some of his displays are genuine custom, some of them are just off the shelf parts at inflated prices. I bought a VFD display from him for the Waldorf XTK and it reduced the viewing angle. I left a positive review with that as comment and the idiot blocked me from buying from him again. So I had to get my friend to buy a JD990 display from him when those became available. On the day it arrived he immediately phoned up my friend asking if it worked, guy has a screw loose I think. Anyway, in the end I found out why the XTK VFD viewing angle wasn't good, a plastic cover for the LCD which is part of the synth had dropped out which probably helped the viewing angle. In the end I replaced the LCD and sold on the synth.

      That’s SNAFU that sells these displays and he’s a total tool that will never get a penny from me. Look at some of the groups for vintage synths on Facebook and you’ll see this guy come up often. Not a good person and avoid. There’s other sources.

    • @AndersEngerJensen
      @AndersEngerJensen 2 года назад

      @@peterldelong Well that’s how you feel. I have nothing but good relations with him and only a few minor troubles with displays. And we sorted that out without any big trouble. Sometimes he can word himself a bit crass, but if that’s all that it takes before you guys (who seem to have made him your arch enemy) set off WW3, I can only 🤷🏼‍♂️.
      If DIY-displays are what you want and you wanna solder everything manually, by all means, happy shopping and tinkering. :)

    • @peterldelong
      @peterldelong 2 года назад +1

      I had to get Reverb to block him from messaging me because he was harassing me. I left him a positive review on a display and stated the brightness pot that was soldered on was a bit wonky and I had to fix it, but no big deal. The guy went mental on me and he’s blocked me and several other people from buying his displays, I’m sure there’s more. You do what you like, but you’re supporting a bad person.

    Just bought a W30 and waiting for it to arrive. Pumped because it has a new backlight and USB drive installed already (for 499 bucks total, including the sampler!). These videos assured me this was the right choice.

    +1 for Luxdisplay ... I've replaced screens on my JD990, XV5080, and K5000s... they all now have a beautiful cool blue display that it much easier to read ... installation was simple (plug and play)... I bought mine a couple of years ago from Lux before everything went mad so I didn't know about the long wait time... My next project is to fix the dim and hard to read screen on my An1x but apparently, that's a custom screen with strange dimensions so the only option is to keep the screen and improve the backlight... oh well.

    I love how your vids always come up just after I have been talking about or spending time on a particular bit of gear.... I especially love that Espen KNOWS about and owns THE best samplers. My producer hero Erick Sermon used this so well, as well as Liam Howlett of Prodigy. Always wanted a W30 but have not yet managed to cop one although I do have a 770 which is a beast (when operational unlike mine right now)

    Great, I have a W30 since 1996 and now with a SCSI2SD, no more floppy disks anymore! This video incentives me to make this upgrade the display too... I changed the foil but worked great for few weeks, and then stopped. The problem looks to be the voltage / power supply for the old system (~50Volts AC). Now back to the Display change plans... Thanks for this video!!

    Done that mod on Wavestation (along with the EX mod, fitting new ROMs), Two Kawai K5000 (rack and keyboard, I sold the rack), an SY99 and two SY77s and finally a Kawai K5. They all pretty much use the same display type. It's just a matter of where to get the backlight power and adapting the contrast adjustment.

    • @AndersEngerJensen
      @AndersEngerJensen 2 года назад

      But in many cases, new displays are thicker so there is often a need to adapt it to the chassis/mounting bracket properly. Not always a straight forward job for the lay man, so sometimes a prepared display is worth the extra cost. :)

    • @6581punk
      @6581punk 2 года назад

      Should note that in every case I have used a stock part, cost of about £40ukp. I used a nice white and black one on the Wavestation as I think it is nicer than the blue ones which I find a bit sluggish to refresh.

    I just found out the sequencer of the W30 can record poly AT which is very important to me nowadays! It's so old I never bothered to check. Since it's the best hardware sequencer I ever used and feels like coming home to an old friend. I now want to reintroduce it to my main setup. The other advantage will be that I can again use old the user samples I put so much time and effort into. So I tried it for for the first time in years and it still runs like clockwork! :-)

    I replaced the light panel strip in my Yamaha QS300 in July 2021. The full display unit would have cost approx £100, but the light panel strip cost me £15 and my own time to fit it. I chose to keep it white rather than go blue. It's the exact same model of display as in things like the Yamaha TG77 and possibly W30?

    Displays are the weak link in most modern synths. They have a service life that isn’t very long and many, if not most, are custom and once the inventory is gone the only place to get one is from a donor synth.
